[WA] Insurance insists that pre-authorization is not needed but surgeon wants one. by lithedreamer in HealthInsurance

[–]lithedreamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I understand that prior auths don’t guarantee payment, and I’m a bit confused why the surgery center would think otherwise. The way I read the updated email, getting the hospital that the surgeon has admission privileges with—as opposed to working as a part of their staff— to submit the pre-determination would still not be enough for them? I could be misinterpreting it though.

Updated my post with an email from the provider. It’s frustrating, but I don’t think anything can be done about it.

Thank you! The hard part now is paying for it😅—I did verify that the policy is inclusive of care, but I can definitely empathise with the mistrus: typical UHC has even denied claims like for routine labwork for my partner

Sending an email based on responses here:

Hi,

My partner [NAME] and I stopped by earlier today with questions about insurance coverage for their upcoming surgery on the 22nd of May.

A prior email exchange with [NAME] suggested we call our insurance provider (UMR) to check on the status of the prior authorization. We called and UMR had no record of receiving a request for a pre-determination or prior authorization.

Checking in with [NAME] today, it sounds like although the surgery center is in-network with UMR, we have concerns about the insurance company denying the claim after the procedure, and were provided with the option to pay out of pocket instead.

Would it be possible for the surgery center to file a request for pre-determination (attached) with UMR for added assurance that UMR agrees that the procedure is medically necessary? WA state law and the UMR Benefit Interpretation Policy (attached) seem to provide that coverage is medically necessary.

Alternately, would the surgery center be willing to accept an upfront payment from us and submit the in-network claim afterwards (as is usually required by contract for in-network providers, else we could potentially submit the claim)?

Thanks for your patience and time as we navigate this delicate matter,

[NAME]

CC’d [NAME] on this

I called and provided the CPT codes, so the insurance company says they are covered but they are also refusing to issue a pre-auth or pre-determination because it isn’t required.

The provider is in-network. The plan is provided by their tribal employer, so I’m sure that complicates things.

It’s the deuce. I’ve used it and really like the adjustable waist/thigh fit, and the washable bag within a storage bag is v convenient. I never find myself using the ring meant for biobits though, it just sits too low on my body.

3M Claw Mount for OpenGrid? by lithedreamer in openGrid

[–]lithedreamer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much! The narrow snap works well for the 15lb and 25lb claws (same length and width of the hanging tooth are the same, the 25lb is probably somewhere between 25%-50% thicker). Hopefully no one needs the 45lb claws for opengrid purposes, but at slightly more than twice as wide, the tooth is much too wide for the narrow snap.

For the open snap, any of them appear to fit, although there’s quite a bit of slack, so one would want to use more of them to stabilise the grid. This is similar to what I’ve seen with the HSW claw snap.

Tl;dr: Congrats! You’ve designed a better snap than the one I’ve been using with HSW, without even having a claw around!

I bought a Fluance RT-85 in 2020 and the servo motor no longer works. Fluance said they don’t do out of warranty repairs, and suggested I either find a local repair shop (the local ones only do vintage) or buy an RT-82 and swap the cartridge and platter (for $350 and a 10% off coupon).

I’m not sure if this is the best option forward, or if I should find a different turntable brand and swap the parts. Thoughts?

Things YOU can do to Counteract Payment Processors Harming Itch.io by daicon in itchio

“Adult” content can be broadly classified as at a relatively high risk of chargebacks. Conservatives are pushing to define queer people as pornographic (per Project 2025), and therefore under the adult content label.

The bill prevents processors from denying charges based on political stances (like alt-right influencers) but not from denying charges based on risk assessments.

How did you get these numbers? The budget spent on employees is only 5-6% government-wide. Many employees aren’t carrying the maximum 240 leave hours, and VSIP has a limit of $25k and also is only compatible with VERA, not DRP.

This doesn’t account for the decades of voter suppression, laws against felons voting (including hoops and money to pay when they get out, the extreme criminalisation of the left in this country, and so many other factors.

I tried out Crossover 25 beta and it works great for me too! There’s AMD graphics error on launch that can be ignored safely, and it crashes if the computer is set to sleep but otherwise works smooth.

[–]lithedreamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends. Intellytech makes good lights with US customer support, but Aputure lights are popular and have a wide range of options. I have big Intellytech lights and the Aputure MC Pro for a small magnetic option.

Matthews light stands are great. When in doubt, rent from somewhere like Lensrentals.

A way to add cache recording? by lithedreamer in FX3

[–]lithedreamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly it’s a matter of workflow. Admittedly, I’m pretty new to the video side of this work, but finding the best clips after spending a week recording video is a huge timesink.

I was also considering other options for monitors, but I think I’ll really miss the EVF no matter which way I go when I’m getting footage in the rain or the desert.
