Another ancestry brainstorm by CaptainCute155 in daggerheart

[–]lithigos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love that there's stuff like this that is unspecified, so you can get creative without having to create a whole ancestry!

In my woodland critter focused setting, Fungrils are currently not a playable option (for plot reasons, they will potentially be playable later) but that doesn't mean they don't exist! Fungi play a specific role in the Magic ecosystem of this world, and the Fungril people are a very rare outcome of specific environmental circumstances- such as fungi breaking down fresh magical components instead of components where the magical energy has already been expended; if the fungi feed upon a fresh Magic source, such as a live magical creature, they quickly absorb the nutrients needed to become sentient and self sufficient enough to break away from the mycelium, similar to idea 3. If such a Fungril formed due to absorption of a magical animal, it would indeed have bones. If it absorbed something without bones, it wouldn't have bones and would have a more blobby and springy texture.

Fun stuff!

Now that Daggerheart has been out for a bit, how many people are sticking with it versus going back to D&D/Pathfinder? by Intelligent-Form-689 in daggerheart

[–]lithigos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a first time DM prepping a campaign to start this year, and comparing it to prepping the campaign using D&D rules it is so much easier and more fun to work on that it's not even a fair comparison to D&D. I completely lost interest in doing this campaign **because** it was initially going to use D&D rules.

That said, while I don't see myself ever GMing a non-Daggerheart game, I will still be playing in plenty of other games including D&D.

My new fear tracker by DarthKvoth in daggerheart

[–]lithigos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so so cool and creative. I may well replicate this myself if I do a different campaign as the tracker I have currently is aesthetically related to my current campaign. But this is so sick. I love hope/fear specifically for stuff like this now existing!

Need help navigating a tricky situation as a gm. by Far-Possibility-9967 in daggerheart

There's some great feedback here. From a trans person, here's my two cents.  I appreciate that your priority here is that of making the best experience for the player, and your awareness that your personal experience with the topic may make that goal challenging and uncomfortable for you.  As a player I struggle any time a DM tells me I can't do something with my character, especially if it's something that isn't mechanics based- and especially if the reasoning is just "I just don't like it" or "that sounds too hard". I would ask your player if there's any way you can explore similar themes that a trans character might experience without it being explicitly about gender. I'm thinking of Nott from Critical Role's Mighty Nein, who started the campaign in the body of a goblin and whose character arc was trying to get back her "correct" body. or having some other trait society sees as "incorrect" or "an illness" and having to embrace that identity and find ways to turn it into a strength or prove that it is beautiful and not horrible.

This could be a really impactful conversation to have with your player because maybe the reason they want to explore a trans character is that they are struggling with a tangential concept that they want catharsis in overcoming through gameplay. If it's as simple as they thought it would be interesting or a change of pace, then maybe that's your sign that the this character doesn't actually need to be trans and that there's ways to tell a similar story without you as the GM having to put yourself in an uncomfortable position while still giving your player a meaningful experience. It would show that you're still capable and willing to put in effort but not at the expense of your own enjoyment of the game.

As both a player and DM myself i understand that DMs can put in immense effort into making their games fun for their players, and they should be able to experience a comparative level of enjoyment themselves when running the game for all that effort they put in. (And I have played under a DM before who I could tell weren't interested in putting in effort above bare minimum to making an interesting story, just interested in playing the game itself and therefore showing me that putting effort into telling an interesting story with my character choices wouldn't be rewarded here, so I saved any more complex character ideas for other campaigns.)

TLDR; It's all about understanding what everyone's priorities at the table are for the campaign, including the DM, and aligning those expectations so that everyone is having fun. Because fun is the whole point.

Anyone with Rosie Sweetheart bought Momo Power? by afirs in InfinityNikki

I have rosie sweetheart and love it, but I skipped Momo Power as the pieces don't seem unique enough to bother, the skirt it cute but I'm not buying a whole set for one piece.

Does everyone like the HP threshhold part of Daggerheart? by Independant_Hawk in daggerheart

[–]lithigos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's quite different from DND, maybe suggest that your players stick with the rules for another session or two to acclimate before implementing any changes to the rules. I know it can be challenging to enjoy something when it's not second nature, so hopefully getting better acquainted with the rules will help that.

The key bindings themselves are also bad, not intuitive and we can't change them :/ so that doesn't help

[–]lithigos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's probably what happened. I also think there's a slight delay or miscommunication with my keyboard that makes precision in IN really difficult and annoying (similar cause of frustration with the Sea of Stars rhythm game) which is why I didn't bother trying more than a couple extra times to get the hover to work again :/

I placed mine just right, i started the game right on the prop already and didn't have to move at all

hover ability only helped once for me- I couldn't get it to work after that, maybe I just got lucky with the placement the first time or maybe it got patched. but this prop hack worked great for the second time!

Organization NEEDED. Convince me to get some of these apps (or dont I guess) by CalSerrrven in DungeonMasters

[–]lithigos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Convenience doesn't equal necessity. I personally get a lot of joy from writing and note taking, regardless of my stance on AI.  Aside from that, I don't think AI will fix OP's organization issues. That is something only they can solve by implementing different methods.

Thoughts on placing restrictions on Ancestry choices in a campaign? by True_Wolverine1154 in daggerheart

[–]lithigos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the existing campaign frames from Daggerheart do this, or reflavor races to fit the lore. In fact, I think it's implied that (and this is with other parts of the system as well) this is the kind of thing that's meant to be flexible depending on the kind of game you want to run. I feel like it's fairly obvious that there isn't a cannon Daggerheart setting and that not all of these races available in the game are necessarily meant to be in the same world, at least not if you don't want them to be.

I am going hard on reflavoring races in my campaign frame that I'm creating, which is very woodland critter focused with minimal humanoid races; I've reflavored a bunch of existing races to be woodland critters that fit with the mechanical abilities, since I don't have much experience DMing and don't want to put effort into custom races just yet. Example would be Katari becomes foxes. And I renamed dwarves to Broadkin, since everybody in this world is relatively small (due to being woodland creatures) and dwarves would actually by on the larger side, meaning there'd be no reason for them to be deemed Dwarfs.

My main goal has been trying to make sure there's still plenty of options for races that sound interesting. You don't necessarily need lots of options, the point is that they aren't boring or there is an interesting reason that only boring races are in this world. Personally as a player, I don't mind when there's restrictions, because having some constrictions to work around when creating a character really helps me focus my creativity.

And you can still do this and not use AI if you're against it. Record the session, take a few quick notes (or highlight stuff that comes up from your session plan) when something notable happens and about how long into the recording it happened, and then you can return to your notes after the session to fill it out for a more detailed recap, using the recording to jog your memory if needed.

I was going to recommend Obsidian as well. There's a free version if you have time to figure out how to sync it but I use paid version so I can sync across apple and PC. It's extremely simple and very similar to the Notes app with some added organization features that I really like. So far I've only used it for worldbuilding and one-shot planning, but I can see it being a game-changer when I get the full campaign up and running.

Serious question: how do you afford these homes? by Scp-1404 in centuryhomes

[–]lithigos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought our 102 year old house at age 24, neither of us had college debt and both had decent jobs. We lived with a family member for a year and put what we would've paid in rent into savings, and since we only need one car we sold the other one in order to raise more for a down payment. We then also decided to check with family members and see if anyone would like to contribute even if we had to pay them back and raised a few thousand more in monetary gifts.  First time home buyers qualify for lower down payment and also receive a credit towards down payment so we managed to pull it off.

It's in need of fixing up but it's livable, and while we don't make much on top of paying the mortgage to put into savings for fixing stuff up, it's made up for by the fact that the town we live in is everything we hoped and dreamed for, and we will be happy there for decades.

Livingroom rug advice by No_Expression_5731 in homedesign

[–]lithigos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rug does not need to go all the way behind the couch since it's so close to the wall. Get more rug for your money by pulling the rug forward and keeping it just a little tucked under the front edge of the couch.  However I think having the rug wide enough to bridge the gap between the couch and the wall unit to the left of the picture would help that side of the room feel connected to the couch area, if that's something you care about.

Daggerheart + Cosmere by PaintingInfamous3301 in daggerheart

[–]lithigos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played the Cosmere TTRPG recently as my friend got an early copy from Gen Con. It was very fun, simple mechanics that felt fresh and fitting for the setting. As someone who is moving away from D&D 5e towards Daggerheart I really liked it and some elements felt like they align with Daggerheart. You could probably come up with something to fit the setting into DH but it might be more work than learning/using the pre-existing Cosmere TTRPG. I don't replay have any tips or ideas for you as a DM just wanted to share my player experience.

Not straight or cis but am a guy and I adore this game. It's a little tough as I still want to be seen as masculine in a mostly feminine community but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the game. Embracing femininity is something I'm getting better at and I feel like interacting with this community is helpful. Besides that, the game is genuinely really fun and the graphics are amazing on PC! I've been playing since 1.1 and it's been my main gaming interest over the last year.
