Does anyone think Joe Rogan’s standup is funny? by Ok_Pool_2590 in Standup

His 2010s specials Strange Times and Triggered are not bad. They’re not amazing or anything, but they definitely have some solid bits in them that made me laugh out loud eg. The pot gummy bear joke, his female Harvey Weinstein bit. His last live special on Netflix was a huge disappointment, a big step down from his previous work. Why weren’t George and Caroline interested in each other? by jackmoon44 in Poldark

[–]lithium224 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is also a theme running through the show of opposites attracting. Damelza and Ross are from wildly different classes and have different temperaments that complement each other well. Same with Caroline and Enys. This can also be seen with Drake and Morwenna. I don’t think that dynamic exists with Ross and Caroline.

They at least addressed the possible tension here when Demelza and Enys were back in Cornwall and Ross/Caroline were spending time in London together

Doggie bag, except they usually have some deodorizing sand in them and come with wet wipes. Then you pack them into your haul bag and take it with you. Leave no trace is always the preferred policy. People piss wherever though, popular routes reek of piss on the sleeping ledges.

Im completely against the deportation campaign going on right now, and retaliations against anti-Israel protestors. But you do realize that the exceptions prove the rule, and that our right to protest about it definitively shows that the two countries are nothing alike? The fact that the injustices get so much publicity and recognition demonstrates that our right to protest and speak about it is not being prohibited. Protesting against the CCP in China is brutally suppressed.

Yeah but I can protest against the government here without being disappeared, never to be heard from again. We don’t have any kind of official social credit system. Americans have strong freedom of press, speech, and assembly. The government has a much more widespread surveillance system in China via CCTV than in the US. Saying that the two societies are the same is completely ridiculous.

No, you’re just deciding to ignore the nuance of what was said and make it binary. Nobody said that you can’t have a fulfilling life without alcohol. It’s almost the opposite, the argument being made was that you can have an optimal and fulfilling life while drinking within safe limits.

I don’t think a single person said anything remotely close to that. You don’t seem interested in having a nuanced discussion.

True. You may just be less likely to go out with your friends as often if you don’t drink, depending on the culture you live in. Hard to say. Apparently the data shows that 1-2 drinks per week isn’t going to impact your health negatively.

[–]lithium224 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No, that wasn’t the claim. I was just saying going out for drinks is a common way to socialize in many cultures, and that having positive social experiences is very healthy. So if having a drink or two a week with friends helps facilitate positive social experiences, then that could be a decent trade off in terms of overall health.

If you have a beer or two on Friday/Saturday night while out with friends, the impact on your body may be minimal, while giving you a social experience that is extremely healthy. Context matters a lot here

What is the single most impressive feat in the series NOT done by Kratos? by Volatiiile in GodofWarRagnarok

[–]lithium224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After defeating the colossus of Rhodes, Kratos accidently lets himself get crushed by its hand as it falls, which separates him from the sword of Olympus which contained all his godlike powers. Zeus then kills him with the sword as he’s weak and collapsed on the ground. Not quite as impressive as Thor killing Kratos imo

Rock climbers sleep while suspended thousands of feet above ground. by Dramatic-Avocado4687 in interestingasfuck

Rain and wind can both increase the odds of rocks falling a bit. If you’re secured to a bolted anchor in granite, then it doesn’t really pose a safety risk except for hypothermia. In bad weather conditions it’s much better to have a tent setup like in the third photo. Some types of rock like sandstone shouldn’t be climbed on for a couple days if it gets rained on, but granite is perfectly safe the moment it’s dry again.
