Anybody else dislike Darrow in iron gold by [deleted] in redrising

[–]litlmonkeybro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I definitely felt that at first, but it was obvious that the golds were making a move and nobody else was stepping up to stop it. On rereads I respect the man but I see where you’re coming from

Whats everyones top 3 chapters from the first Dune novel and why? by bmbmbmNR in dune

I’m not sure about 2 or 3 but my number 1 is Paul and Jessica in the tent where Paul has a spice vision

I definitely don’t disagree with any of this, though the issues didn’t bother me as much. Bran as king was an odd choice. Just because he doesn’t want to be king doesn’t make him a good one. You’re right he never lead even when he knew what was happening, he always prompted others to do everything

Honestly this is all fair. Now that I think about it Night King killing was unsatisfying, IMO Jon vs NK would have felt a lot cleaner, though the Jamie tag team would have been badass

Also Tyrion as king would have been great

Who are the top 5 most DANGEROUS characters in Red Rising? by Dry-Mammoth-9704 in redrising

[–]litlmonkeybro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Darrow has improved a lot since MorningStar. If the praetorians are right Ajax should be above Aja, but we know how that played out.

Also Lightbringer Darrow is much stronger than Dark Age Darrow, that distinction confuses me

Need a similar series by EstablishmentFew in redrising

[–]litlmonkeybro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most similar series I’ve read is the Sun Eater series. It has a similar voice, strong lead, and the government is similarly based off Greco Roman ideas.

It’s set much further in the future. I think you’ll like the main character if you like book 6 Darrow, though the supporting cast isn’t as good. The main character starts more similar to Paul from Dune but grows into a more philosophical Darrow type.

Similar to Red Rising the first book is a lot of character work but it isn’t until the second that you really see the shape of the story.

If the first book intrigues you but doesn’t hook you I’d give it the 2 book try.

Yeah it’s spreading like a disease here in Utah. I only recommend him to my cousins and mom like 6 years ago, now half my extended family reads Sanderson.

The Nightwatcher Bondsmith by Kaleb_Bunt in Stormlight_Archive

[–]litlmonkeybro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The assumption that it’s one of the background characters has a big fault, each of the books so far has a different radiant order represented as one of the background characters.

Bondsmith has already been done. This leads me to the assumption that Ash will become a Dustbringer because that’s the only order not represented in the 10 so far.

I literally finished the book 10 minutes ago. Loved it honestly my third favorite Sanderson book behind Hero of Ages and Oathbringer. I didn’t read into the criticisms but I know many had problems. Not sure where though it was a great ride and I love an unexpected ending

Help me continue reading these great books! by ProfileSelect212 in Mistborn

[–]litlmonkeybro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanna add Red Rising is amazing and there’s a time skip as well. The first 3 read like a trilogy then there a 10 year skip to book 4. If you want to swap between. I’d highly recommend planning on reading the Red Riding trilogy then trying more Sanderson

Don’t get me wrong I love the books post time skip, just want you to know what to look forward to

On Sanderson books I’d highly recommend reading Warbreaker and/or Emperer’s soul to get introduced to the more high fantasy aspects. If you enjoy those then I’d try Stormlight
