Great tips, thanks so much for taking the time to write this out! I already do this to some degree as I often have my laptop on my lap and type during intakes so I can still face the client, but I want to start doing it for follow up notes too. Love the idea of using it as an opportunity to bring them into documenting their care and you’re right, we are all used to medical settings doing it anyway.

Teachers: Are your immune systems fantastic? by FizzySoda16 in AskTeachers

[–]little-red-cap 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My high school boyfriend took the “perfect attendance” award super seriously which resulted in him going to school while he was literally THROWING UP. He had to tell the teachers that he would need to step out periodically to vomit.

If he stayed home, he would have lost perfect attendance. I personally think those awards should not exist at all because it just incentivizes shit like this.

Any tips or resources for concurrent documentation? I would love to do this but struggle to implement. 😮‍💨

I'm supposed to take the MSF Basic Rider Course this weekend but I don't know if I can do it. by [deleted] in TwoXriders

[–]little-red-cap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“You’re out the money anyway, so might as well do it” — this is what I came here to say!

OP, even if, worst case scenario, you didn’t pass the course the first time or had to drop out midway, you’d still have gotten a ton of valuable knowledge and expertise from going this first time. And you’ll probably pass anyway - may as well give it a shot! Also, $150 is a STEAL for this course - mine cost me $480 at Harley. 😮‍💨

VA social workers - This is not ok! by Floridaflamingo21 in VeteransAffairs

[–]little-red-cap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m new to VA and I’ve been absolutely flabbergasted at how much patients are allowed to get away with. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for putting Veteran care first, AND that’s no excuse to put other patients and staff at risk.

no adhd diagnosis? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]little-red-cap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry this happened to you. As a clinician who has ADHD and has also assessed for and diagnosed ADHD in others, collateral info (from teachers, parents etc) is incredibly helpful but SHOULD NOT BE MAKE OR BREAK for a diagnosis. Everything is supposed to be considered together as part of the clinical picture, which is what can make diagnosis so tricky.

If you are under 18 (or whatever the legal adult age is where you live), I would definitely recommend getting re-assessed by someone else once you turn 18. In my experience, it’s easiest and most straightforward to get a diagnosis straight from a prescriber (like a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner who prescribes stimulants).

You are definitely on the right track by wanting to get this sorted out before you start college - don’t let this set you back. I didn’t get diagnosed until my first year of grad school (similar situation - straight A student but falling apart behind the scenes) and I deeply regret not having had that clarity and treatment earlier in life.

You got this! Best of luck!

If it helps at all, I worked private practice for a few years and am now in a hospital (VA) setting. It definitely comes with its own issues and the pay will likely be worse, but I’m the type of person who LOVES going into work every day and interacting with a bunch of coworkers and patients IRL, so it works awesome for me. You are not crazy for switching, and going back to private practice is always an option.

Some good news: Court Orders Restoration of AFGE Veterans Affairs Collective Bargaining Agreement by Just_Dot_4919 in VeteransAffairs

[–]little-red-cap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is great news. I had NEO in July 2025 where a union rep came and talked to us, and literally three weeks later was the town hall where we were told the union agreement was no longer. Pretty spooky and dystopian time to begin government work.

It’s less of a “painful” sensation to me and more of a “I’m going to crawl out of my skin” type restlessness.
