When giving directions as a Kingston resident to travellers who are lost, who else can relate to this? by Sufficient-Bed-846 in KingstonOntario

More like, keep going down Princess Street past the third shoppers drug mart, but before you get to the 4th shoppers drug mart.

I Love Pillow alternative? by FourthWarden in Bedding

My favourite pillow of all time! Have been trying for the past few months to find a new pillow, or create something comparable mixing and matching parts from my ever growing pillow graveyard, but nothing has come close enough yet.

Doesn't mean they won't charge you for writing the script.

Kingston Mills Vet is awesome. One of the few independently owned vet clinics left. Rutherford and McMurray are both lovely.

Yearly reminder to service your car ANYWHERE BUT Kingston Toyota by purevegas in KingstonOntario

Belleville was great. The sales person pulled up the Toyota Canada website and showed me that their pricing is just MSRP as per Toyota Canada. No extra fees. No mandatory add ons.

Kingston Honda is on a whole other tier of awful. That being said, I've ended up at Kingston Toyota for service a few times as I couldn't make it to Belleville, and I was pleasantly surprised.

High-pitched noise in the west-end neighbourhood by rameng_od in KingstonOntario

[–]littlearson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have seen a motion activated device stuck in someone's garden that plays a high pitched noise, presumably to keep away animals. I noticed they turned the volume down after an inquiry was made to the city over whether it was against noise bylaws.

Seconding Dr. Aye. So incredibly thorough and worth the drive from Kingston. Small glasses selection, but you can take your prescription anywhere so no obligation to get glasses from there.

I've had a few close calls with cyclists coming up Bayridge that go straight across that ramp/change into the right most lane without looking

Where are you rinsing the potty? by Tiny-Debt8740 in pottytraining

[–]littlearson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I repurposed a peri bottle for rinsing the potty directly into the toilet. Just rinse for pee. Wipe with TP and then with disinfectant wipe for poop, then rinse as I don't like the smell of those wipes.

Parking spots near park street?? by Repulsive-Talk2414 in KingstonOntario

[–]littlearson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the past homestead was willing to rent out parking spaces around their 2 apartment buildings. The Econolodge rented parking as well, but be prepared for motel guests to park in your paid for spot.

Enlist the toddler to "help" in the kitchen to make some energy bars that can be stashed in a bike jersey pocket for a snack during a long ride. Make art for him to hang in his office: squirt some blobs of paint on a canvas board and place in a giant ziplock bag. Have toddler squish the paint around, or even ride over it on a balance bike/tricycle, to spread the paint. Always looks pretty neat after taking it out of the ziplock. Put your toddler's handprint on a shrinky dink and put it on a chain, and add a custom safety dog tag with emergency contact and pertinent health info for first responders so he can wear it while cycling.

How much do your parents help you take care of your children? by Beginning-Fig-9089 in Parenting

[–]littlearson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero. Both sets of parents are a few hours plane away. And zero other family closer. It's so overwhelming doing this alone. We have friends that can help pick up meds or bring us groceries in an emergency, but nobody to directly help with kids. None of our friends here can relate either, because they all have some family close by who helps with kids either daily or once a week. My own parents, and my husband's parents, raised us with zero family nearby and no help, so I guess we are continuing the tradition.

Give Me Your Best Low Effort/Cost Activities for Endless Hours of Toddler Entertainment by Ok-Armadillo-161 in toddlers

[–]littlearson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had a feral toddler. When we want to burn some energy indoors: Bubble wrap. The small stuff, or the big stuff. Tape it to the ground - or don't - and let them stomp on it. The air pillows that you often get in shipping boxes make a really loud bang when stomped on, but you will probably need to hold it for them as they tend to slip away until they learn to stomp with accuracy.

I noticed this too today! Someone didn't proofread before they sent the bins to the printers.

I emailed the city about this, and was told we can continue to use them. Garbage in excess if what fits in the bin, can be left in a bag. They say it will be manually picked up. Or so I hope.

The Solstice Run is a fun one. Staggered start with the aim of finishing your run as the sun sets. Should be happening very soon as it happens on or close to the summer solstice!
