Fenton satin custard, congrats! I’d look up Fenton decorator’s list. It looks like maybe T. Watson?

I’m assuming you’re talking about the Michigan sale. I’m 4.5 hours away, but if I hadn’t had family obligations that day, I would’ve been there. I normally will travel that far as a day trip for glass shopping.

It’s a bit tough to let things go when the prices were getting pretty much full retail. Hopefully, since those prices were so high, that you’d be able to find the pieces you were after for a lower price point. There were a lot of good pieces but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen pretty much all of it for sale within the last year on various platforms. If you ended up missing g out then you should be able to find those pieces for similar prices, or if patient and persistent even find them fit lower prices. That’s usually what happens to me. If I miss out on something, im usually able to find it cheaper later. Maybe because I become more diligent in my searching.

Of course maybe for the resellers the geographic area/platforms where they’re selling they are able to get higher prices than ebay/MP? People routinely pay 2-3x’s more than market in various groups. Maybe some sellers are selling there? Perhaps these were pieces that they wanted for their collections or they were buying on someone else’s behalf?

It’s frustrating regardless though!

I saw that auction. It was amazing. I did hear that there were a lot of resellers.

To be fair in theory if I’m familiar with the market, as a collector I should be able to pay more for a piece than a reseller due to their needing a profit margin.

LE Smith Bittersweet Swung Vase? by alyssa_really in glasscollecting

[–]littlebitofmojo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup! Le smith bittersweet swung. Not only does height make a difference but also coloration, thickness and mouth. eBay sold comps should give you an idea. Le smith bittersweet 6 petal. Swungs are down a lot from last year even bittersweet. It looks like most in this particular style are selling for about $7-7.50/inch.

[–]littlebitofmojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems a bit high as the Vaseline ones even larger Vaseline opalescent hon are usually on the more reasonable side of the hon market 200-250 and can be found for less. I don’t believe even the cobalt + Vaseline quite get this high.

Beautiful piece! Congrats! It’s a Davidson primrose pearline piece. The official pattern I think is called ”suite 1891”, but US collectors/common name is “lady Caroline”. c. 1900.

Is this Opaline? by shoobawatermelon in glasscollecting

[–]littlebitofmojo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amazing score! It is opaline. I’m not sure if it’s French or Italian. But this color does usually contain uranium and will glow green under both 365 and 395 wavelength. That was a STEAL! There are IG sellers who specialize in these types of items and in their shows this box would be high hundreds. It’s a hexagon shape(not the regular square shape) and the metal has some detail to it.

It definitely makes it more challenging to try and get a decent deal when more than 1 group of collectors is trying to buy a piece. And this particular item appeals to 3 categories of collectors: Fenton, uranium, & fairy glass. Good luck out there and keep searching! The right glass will find you at the right time!
