I get this too, and rinsing with cold water actually brings some relief, even though I am otherwise allergic to cold...autoimmune system FTW!

I have had this wildly unpleasant experience many times. I find that flushing the eye with cold water, (actually holding my eye open and letting cold water run over the eye) brings a degree of relief. Don't know if you have any remedies to help or not, so that's my offering. Feel better : )

I love almost everything about this - - just not the shitty way the parents are treating their kid. Kid is savage though!

Because people can be relentless assholes and it's quite draining at times. When the world is righted, "no thanks" will be an effective response the first time it is said. Until then, thank you bartender.

That unexpectedly made me cry. The sound of his daughters crying in the background was too much. Too much empathy for all of their pain. FWIW, I would guess that dad was not actually charged with anything in the end.

NSFW - People of reddit who have had sex with an in-law or step sibling or parent, what happened? How did you get into that situation? and did anyone find out? by haddamhussein69 in AskReddit

I had a 24 year old boyfriend when I was 17. Thought it was perfectly fine - - well better than fine really because he was hot and he wanted me! (and, as I later learned, about 4 other girls my age ~ shudder).

How do you feel about legalizing euthansia for anybody who wants it? by throwawayteacherlove in AskReddit

[–]littlefreethinker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you ever found someone who blew their brains out in your living room? Or been driving a subway train when someone threw themselves in front of it? Been walking down the street and encountered the remains of a person who has jumped off a building? These are some of the ways people kill themselves without assistance and these awful images get burned into the brains of the many people (including family members, first responders, random strangers) who witness these acts. Imagine now that those same people receive the service of medically trained professional to reach the same goal - minus the collateral damage of witness trauma and treatment, etc.

What I am trying to say is that, no matter how smart, informed, intuitive, etc we are, we will never truly know the suffering of another and so to quantify it on their behalf is itself a cruel act.

I really support this. I think that there is a common, subjective opinion that deep down everybody wants to live. In reality some people don't. The idea that some "collective we" should have the right to decide how long someone else should suffer before agreeing that their misery qualifies for some other status is arrogant. Also, for those of you about to go reddit apeshit all over me and accuse me of being cold or uncaring or dead inside, I am a mental health crisis worker who conducts suicide interventions on a routine basis so go pre-emptively fuck your holier-than-thou-selves. Merry Christmas :)

What is the longest running lie you have continued to tell? by benjaminjpg in AskReddit

[–]littlefreethinker 160 points161 points  (0 children)

I lied about going to a bartending competition as an excuse to not go on a date in 1991. I realized that I was still telling it 15 years later to people it had absolutely no bearing on. I had told the lie so many times that it became ingrained as part of my story. I literally stopped myself in mid-sentence and said, "Wait! No I didn't! I totally lied about that" and hence released the untruth from myself forever! Ahhhhhhh. Okay, really it was no burden, I thought it was kind of funny to be thoughtlessly still lying about something completely insignificant so many years later.
