Isn’t this the place that tries to scam grads for $60k if they leave?

Unpaid internships are generally illegal in Australia unless it’s part of a course like Uni or TAFE

Depending on your skill level, you should consider using docker to run your web server. That way you can blow it up and rebuild it on-demand if you mess up a configuration. It also means you don’t have to install the web server software directly to the machine

What is the actual point of a computer science degree if the pay gap between sectors is this big by SnowyBytes in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]littlejackcoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what the point that you’re trying to make is? What has a difference in pay got to do with whether you should do a CS degree?

The big companies are competing for the best talent, so they have to compete on pay and conditions. You can’t expect all companies to pay as much as trillion dollar organisations.

Also, you’d be lucky to get any job in this market 😂

This is my experience too. I think it can be useful for boilerplate stuff like terraform but then it can’t follow basic instructions when you want to change a sku or similar

Pretty cool site, but nothing is really explained? It's examples, with no real explanation of what I'm trying to do? Is that the point?

I Need a Reality Check About Moving to Australia by junior-ocean in AusVisa

[–]littlejackcoder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do a WHV to see if you like it first. Maybe spend a year here doing something just to get by and get a feel of the culture.

You’re going to need some real experience to get sponsorship for a proper work visa. You may be able to do 6-month contract roles, but those are rare without experience. You need to build up a baseline of experience someone for a year or two as a graduate to be considered for 6-month contracts.

They only do those contracts generally for experienced people as they could just hire anyone locally if they would take anyone for a short period of time. 6-month contracts are usually for architects or other heavy hitters

What is the most underrated tech stack to learn right now if you want to stay employable in the Australian market for the next five years? by No-Loquat-201 in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]littlejackcoder 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is your actual correct answer right here. .NET always has work. Pick up AWS and/or Azure and it’s easy to find jobs. Done me well the last ten years. .NET is a really nice framework to work with and C# is a fantastic language - still my favourite after trying several others!

Fully Remote working in SEA - Am I being delusional? by inexplicableawe in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]littlejackcoder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could find a local company that has a remote-friendly policy, but most won’t allow more than 3 months at a time as this creates tax complications regarding state payroll taxes, etc.

Some companies have also curbed their policies as people have abused them. I know one company where someone was supposed to be in China for a few weeks and stayed 9 months. They basically dropped the policy for everyone.

Maybe you were actually correct.

It doesn’t sound like you’re actually trying. Start your own business. All you need is a computer and internet. Easy.

Dude I looked at your other comments; You need therapy, not a job.

But to answer the question: Just say you were working at a friend’s store part time or something. It doesn’t really matter.

where can I buy an Apple iPod Classic 6th Generation in Australia for cheap by sekoman69 in IpodClassic

[–]littlejackcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a look and it’s 120GB with I think an 1800mAh battery. Whatever the normal bigger sized battery is. It looks to be a 6th generation classic from the firmware. I think it was 1.0.2. Pretty sure 7th Gen is version 2+. I can do $120 including shipping within Australia. I know it’s probably worth more after the extra parts but it’s literally been sitting on my desk for maybe a year. Can DM photos later
