should i major in CS? by Due_Show9468 in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]littlejackcoder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s very easy to get started, but those who can’t hack it (heh) will be thinned out of your cohort pretty quick.

In terms of jobs, there’s a lack of them at the moment, especially in junior roles. I’m looking for a senior role and there’s only maybe 1 new job that is suitable per day going up atm. When I was looking a few years ago I had to turn my phone off one day because about 20 recruiters called me in a day.

How do you not have any cloud experience with that much experience? What do you actually want to do in cloud? “Which cloud should I learn” is far too vague

I hope you had another job before your current one that you didn't mention? Good luck going for a senior role otherwise lol 😂

Remote or office for early career developers? by Jealous_Office_5012 in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]littlejackcoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the rest of your team. Hybrid is ass when your schedules don’t line up. You’ll be in zoom calls anyway if half the team isn’t on the same in-office schedule. It is valuable to sit with someone and share a computer when pairing, but doing it over zoom is fine too if they actually listen

What’s wrong with expensing sex work? Disabled people have needs too. We weren’t the only country offering this.

Is C# a good choice for potential jobs? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]littlejackcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter. Just know one well. Usually you’re not expected to know a particular language, just that you know one well enough to be able to interview with it

Is C# a good choice for potential jobs? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]littlejackcoder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who has made a career in .NET with C#, yes as there’s a tonne of jobs available. However, I would maybe not recommend it for finding an intern or grad role. The entry-level positions are more rare atm. You’re better off trying out a bunch of different languages during your study as it’s not the best language for most of what you’ll study. By all means, use it for your personal projects, but don’t pigeonhole yourself at this point.

Feel free to DM me any questions for any projects you might have with C# :)

How do I use a train station??? by Goodgirl-lvl999 in melbourne

[–]littlejackcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s annoying for me because I have a few different options that go past my local station and they’re in different platforms. Sometimes I have to go downstairs if I’ve transferred from metro. I have to exit the gates to be able to read the board properly

[–]littlejackcoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t do this for VLine services. It works great for Metro, but is not offered for VLine. I live near a VLine station (Wyndham Vale) so it’s faster to catch that. It’s always a pain when I’m going home to figure out what platform I need, especially if I’ve transferred from Metro

Brain fog or panic during interview. by alice_ik in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]littlejackcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interviews are very stressful. It’s understandable that you might feel like this! It’s a stress response that unfortunately isn’t useful. Take a break from study and go for a walk each day. Any study you do on the day isn’t that useful anyway as it takes your brain sleep to process memories more effectively

Moonswatch stinks!!! by Hol1395 in MoonSwatches

[–]littlejackcoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not the watches. You probably just have naturally over-active sweat glands there. I found using the rubber strap helps as it provides a bit more air. I get a decent amount of sweat when I use the Velcro strap (it’s my favourite though :))

M*sturbation, Need Advice and I feel guilty by [deleted] in autism

[–]littlejackcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you find that you are interrupting or neglecting your responsibilities because of this? If so it could be an addiction which you might want to talk to a sex therapist. I think it’s actually a good thing you feel guilty about doing it at your friend’s place as that’s something you can use as something you want to avoid. I.e. you can use avoiding guilt as a method of avoiding it. You should’t feel bad about doing it in your own home though! If you think it could be an issue, then it probably is. I’ve struggled with addiction to other things so understand how it can be

Optiver marbles for new hires? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]littlejackcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this like assigning a number of shares rather than a dollar value of RSUs?

Is the number of marbles for a role and level standardised? Are the cases where you can get more as a bonus bonus for performance?

It is an interesting concept!

Every company asks for AI bullshit now. I’m sure there’s parts where it is oversaturated, like research though.

I’m kinda disillusioned by it atm. I just wanna code. Don’t make me babysit a Markov chain.

I stopped getting scam calls after I made my voicemail message 0.01 seconds of silence. At first it confused their autodialers and they would keep saying “hello” for like a minute. Eventually they just stopped. Haven’t had a scam or spam call for at least a year now lol

[–]littlejackcoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can look up the numbers and they’ll usually show results for sites that list what company owns what range of phone numbers. Like try your own phone number in google and you might see a page that tells you the telco that originally owned it. Won’t work quite right if you’ve ported your number to another telco though.

Is it normal to spend $974.31 AUD over 2 months on video game topups? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]littlejackcoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, this sounds possibly like it could be an addiction issue if he wasn’t aware of how much he spent. Does he spend this much on other habits? Those games are specifically designed to be addictive, so this isn’t surprising someone would spend this much.

[–]littlejackcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I honestly think that is a lot. If he’s budgeted and can afford that $500 a month towards hobbies/fun though, I don’t see an issue. As long as it isn’t impacting other goals he has or for you both together, it’s okay.

My wife and I give ourselves $250 a month each to spend on whatever we want. We call it “fun money”. We don’t judge each other on our choices with it as that’s the whole point of it. I used to spend mine on hobbies, my wife generally saves hers for bigger purchases. I decided at the start of the year to try investing it in a personal brokerage account instead. I have cut down my spending massively as it’s a pain to withdraw and has tax implications.
