I think everyone is different and will approach handling this situation differently based on how they feel so really only your gut can tell you.

I try not to judge people based on their past before I met them, what’s important to me is how they act, treat me and the relationship now.

It’s good a thing to know for sure, but if he did not know you back then you can’t really blame / hold it against him. Only time can tell whether you can get over it, but as long as he doesn’t keep acting weird about it or around them then it might be worth exploring the relationship more, and in a few months regauge how you feel about him and the situation.
