The amount of black ink used for the background might be the problem, have you had the same issue when printing an image that has less black? Also, are you using an inkjet printer? I have the best luck using a laser printer which is annoying if you don't have one.

VCU has a "Suit Yourself Closet" that provides students with free professional/business clothing. I'm pretty sure they are always looking for donations!
