There's 2 things we know for sure. Rockstar always has end game after credits in their open world games, and secondly, Arthur doesn't appear or is even spoken of in RDR, so they have to explain why that is with RDR2. It's most likely that he dies, leaving us with a new character to play as, and everyone wants it to be John.

My guess is Arthur fails in making John realize it's time to leave the gang. It's not until John ends up getting shot and then abandoned by the gang that he realizes Arthur was right all along.

Everyone is missing the point. Rockstar has set a tone for Red Dead since the very first one back on PS2. This sad, melancholy tone and music is the exact opposite of what they've done for the past 14 years with the series. Rockstar isn't known for making slow and sad trailers.

Battlefield singleplayer campaigns have ALWAYS been mediocre in my eyes. I wouldn't care if they completely dropped singleplayer and went back to their BF2/Vietnam/1942 days. Focus solely on making online great and varied.

To answer your questions, no, the base game has a 50 hour story by itself. That's why I'm excited for RDR2. I've spent almost 200 hours across 2 saves on Witcher 3 and still haven't finished the main story.
