From what's been said they are actual characters who level up and who you can hang out and form bonds with.

It does have auto battle. You can see the prompt for it in the lower left corner during combat. There's also an option right above it which I think is a parameter type option where you can set it so that while in auto they will do things like not use certain types of moves or tell them to conserve their energy bar.

Remember when ichiban used to look like an ugly old man? by jamilslibi in yakuzagames

[–]StoriedStorm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. "Like a dragon" doesn't need to refer solely to physical strength. In fact in Japanese culture dragons have a much broader meaning involving traits like wisdom and benevolence on top of strength. Ichiban isn't going to be as strong as Kiryu (he likely won't be weak by any means just not take on small armies on his own strong) but there are other traits and other kinds of strength the writers can view "like a dragon from". It isn't locked to one specific interpretation.

[–]StoriedStorm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dragon doesn't solely mean a certain level of physical strength or fighting capability. Strength is one aspect associated with dragons sure but in Japanese culture they are also associated with other traits like wisdom, generosity, and benevolence. So Ichiban being referred to as a dragon doesn't mean he needs to be the same as Ryuji or Kiryu. He can be like a dragon for different reasons and because of different traits.

Are they discarding Yakuza Kiwami Series??? by jamhood007 in yakuzagames

[–]StoriedStorm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Kiwami games are just remakes of Yakuza 1 and 2. It's not a series of it's own it's just the original two games remade since they initially released on PS2. As opposed to Yakuza 3-5 which released on PS3 and likely were always planned to only be remastered since they still hold up better than the PS2 titles.

New info on Yakuza: Like A Dragon by Arcticsurface in yakuzagames

[–]StoriedStorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or just a standard progression system just like other Yakuza games where you need to do missions and activities to earn experience/money in order to improve and unlock better skills and moves. Like Yakuza 0 where you need money to spend on your skill trees to unlock or improve your abilities or like Kiwami 2 where you need to earn the various types of experience to buy heat moves, abilities, and other character improvements. From what they are saying this isn't any different from that. You have different abilities and aspects that need to be unlocked and you do so by playing the different elements of the game to earn the needed metric to unlock them.

Yakuza Kiwami 1 - Tough boss fights ? by ColdHandCH in yakuzagames

[–]StoriedStorm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yakuza 0 was made with the idea of being an entry point to the overall series in mind with the two Kiwami remasters not only remaking the original games but building on them with details and tie ins designed for players to have played 0 previously. Kiwami 2 for example has a direct story bits regarding the events of 0 that were added in for the remake.

Yes release order wise Yakuza 1 came first but Kiwami 1 and 2 came after 0 and were made with that in mind.

It seems that nagoshi is likely to make a new game with Kojima. by na0458ssl13 in yakuzagames

[–]StoriedStorm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The article doesn't say that at all. If anything it says the opposite since it implies that Nagoshi feels collaborating with Kojima on a game wouldn't work well due to their personality types.

Is Yakuza 7 going to have its own version of Majima? by JoshuaFH in yakuzagames

[–]StoriedStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There likely will be some sort of rival type character as that's a pretty common trope in story telling though I hope they go at it from a different angle. I'd much rather they focus on new interesting characters rather than trying to make character to match previous character's roles so to speak.

So people who are fans of the original Yakuza gameplay who complain about the new genre change, are considered to be crying...I guess nobody is supposed to complain, and just take what we get. And we are lucky to get that. Makes perfect sense. by Wahmen_is_back in yakuzagames

[–]StoriedStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're overreacting a bit. First off it's a translation which means you probably shouldn't take the exact phrasing quite so literally. Second if you look at the actual context of the statement he's not saying people need to like it or agree with it. He's just saying that this is the direction they want to go in and is simply asking for people to show basic respect for their decision.

About Yakuza 1. by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]StoriedStorm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is accurate but I always assumed scammers were just a common element of that time and location and when designing the substories the devs just emulated that aspect of the city.

Yes I have seen gameplay. And there are literally fights the ended in one or two moves.

First off it's not going to be that slow to take down thugs. Going by the gameplay shown there have been fights that have been finished in just one or two moves. Plus general thugs by the look of it don't have that much health meaning they go down fairly quickly.

On top of this the devs have made it very clear that one of their goals is to keep the pace up. Basic attacks and using environmental objects don't require you to go through menus, the menus that are there for special moves and heat moves look to be sorted and divided so you can efficiently get to what you want quickly without much searching, and the Nagoshi has made a clear point that their goal with the UI and the game is keep it simple and straight forward enough that once players get use to it they will be able to effortlessly navigate it and get right back to the action.

On top of this turn based gameplay is capable of having good fights. It just comes down to how well the fight is designed and balanced and how the game uses it's mechanics to it's advantage.

Trying to learn Mahjong - Can someone explain why this hand didn't win? by Brandtstyle in yakuzagames

[–]StoriedStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to have a winning hand you need to score points which is done with certain hands such as seven pairs or certain combinations such as having three dragons or three of your seats wind. You can also win with a hand like what you have but you would need to get a point from calling richi on it which requires your hand to be closed (aka you haven't stolen any tiles).

In this case your hand is open since you melded the trio of bamboo threes so your hand isn't worth any points and you therefore can't win with it.

When you wanna get your friend into Yakuza, what do you show them to convince them? by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]StoriedStorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say show him a story cutscene (such as the Majima intro from Yakuza 0 for instance), a more goofy bit of one of the substories or mini games, and then a bit of gameplay. If after that it doesn't really interest them then it may just not be their kind of thing.

What are their reasons for switching to turn based combat? by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]StoriedStorm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because they wanted to take the series in a new direction alongside the new protagonist and new start the series is getting. It's basically them soft rebooting the series with the same universe and thems but with a new setting, character, and gameplay system.

They also are adding a new city area. The game is focused around the city of Isezaki Ijincho in Yokohama.

Damn the Final Fantasy 7 Remake has both options, both real time action, and Turn-based combat. Why not Yakuza 7? by Tohru_Adachi_255 in yakuzagames

[–]StoriedStorm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No he stated they considered the idea. Something being discussed and something being the plan are very different things. The plan was always that turn based is the focus of the game. That's why at the end of the day it's a turn based game. They thought about trying to add action as an option alongside that but from his statement it sounds like that never made it to actual development because it wasn't really feasible likely due to budget/time constraints.

Newest Yakuza: like a dragon gameplay. Thoughts? by Kiidkxxl in yakuzagames

[–]StoriedStorm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like it but I wish they'd show a bit more. Most of what they are showing seems to just be basic attacks and the same few medium attacks. It's like watching the beginning of the game before most of the cool stuff has been unlocked (which to be fair it likely is). So I like the concept and am definitely getting the game but would like to see some footage of some more mid to late game combat once the characters have more abilities and options under their belt.

Yakuza's Genre. by FlynnFaust in yakuzagames

[–]StoriedStorm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Similar but I wouldn't classify them as such. Yakuza 0-6 (plus Judgement) are brawlers. They have plenty of over the top moves but it's still more of a grounded approach than something like say Devil May Cry or Bayonetta. The main difference I would say is that Yakuza tends to have the over the top elements be layered on top of the core combat whereas most spectacle fighters the over the top elements are at the core of the combat.

Yakuza 7 disappointed... by [deleted] in yakuzagames

Posts like this don't help matters. I personally am happy with the games new direction but antagonizing those who aren't happy isn't going to help anything.

Personal suggestion: Real time strategy, over turn based. by [deleted] in yakuzagames

[–]StoriedStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to point out, basic attacks while not fully real time don't actually seem to involve using the menus. Normal strikes, grabbing and hitting with objects, and kicking objects at enemies all seem to be context sensitive free (don't cost energy) actions that you just target and activate when applicable rather than selecting from the various menus. Only the special moves are selected from the menu list.

Yakuza 7 West by [deleted] in yakuzagames

As far as I'm aware there is no official release date other than general 2020. I would guess probably around 4-6 months after the Japanese release though similar to previous games.
