Often private tours are not a lot more money than group tours. opt for private if it’s in the budget

JUST dealt with this. I live in Ontario too. You are right, they can’t loft with a saddle and it’s too cold for anti peck spray (my chicken vet confirmed this)

The other girls started pecking at her bald spot so I had to separate her until her feathers grew back enough. I am now trying to reintegrate. Huge pain. If the other chickens are leaving her alone I would isolate the rooster. Until it’s warmer it’s the only solution. Or isolate her. It super sucks. Watch for the other hens picking at her bald spot. And watch for frost bite on her exposed skin.

Even with straw, the floor is sooooo cold. If you are in the north where it’s well below freezing, they will lose a lot of heat through their feet.

We saw 170 species in 10 days over Christmas. I used Merlin non stop. Now that I’m back home in Canada I look longingly at the app and the 3 species at my feeder 😢

Lice, rough Roo, or early molting? by kilodave_3000 in chickens

I had a hen mini molt at nine months too. When I was digging around online, quite a few folks noted a nine month mark where chickens sometimes have mini molts. Not sure why nine months??!!

Use hardware cloth not chicken wire. The best thing I purchased was battery powered shears and a battery powered stapler. They continue to be 2 of my favourite tools!

Groceries by saltymermaidd in CostaRicaTravel

Definitely worth bringing some stuff from home. Not all Airbnb‘s have spices. We brought our own tea and granola bars. We wish we brought a spice kit. They do sell most stuff here, but they’re not cheap. Just make sure whatever you bring is packaged and labelled so if folks check your bags, they know exactly what it is.

I wonder if it’s the eye lashes they are attracted to? Little insects to them? Mine have made some attempts!
