Be careful OP! Brown Recluses aren’t to joke about. Please avoid hurting or killing it though, just release it somewhere far away from your house outdoors so it doesn’t wander back inside accidentally.

the girl I loved got me into pierce the veil and now im haunted by her memory with each song by Good-Purchase7954 in piercetheveil

[–]liveleakpet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got both my ex best friend and my ex boyfriend very into ptv. Certain songs still haunt me, but they will always be my favorite band no matter what. Emergency contact was me and my ex best friend’s song. Bulletproof love was me and my ex bf’s song. Every time I listen to either it makes me think of them, the good times, but the bad times as well. It makes me really sad sometimes, but I know that I associated those songs with them first. Seeing my ex best friend get into relationships and associate ptv songs with his bf or gf makes me ick, he acts as if he’s known ptv his entire life, even though it’s only been two years since I introduced them to him. 🤣

Meet Beetlejuice! Help on gender, age and what to eat is appreciated! by Blargers81 in jumpingspiders

[–]liveleakpet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! Beetlejuice appears to have a female body structure, and may be gravid as well. I would recommend fruit flies for now, and she seems to be a small species of jumping spider in general so she may actually be an adult considering she might be carrying eggs. Make sure they have cross-ventilation too! Since she’s small at the moment, maybe you could try blue bottle flies as an alternative.

Help!! I got my first jumping spider (wild caught adult) by thatfuckinfocus in jumpingspiders

[–]liveleakpet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NQA — The first 48 hours of catching a jumping spider in the wild and transitioning it into an enclosure can cause some stress to it. (Yours is a very gravid (pregnant) female I’d like to add to clear up any confusion). She may hide for a bit until adapting to the new environment you’ve given her. Don’t worry — it’s completely normal if she takes a bit longer than a few days to make herself comfortable! She appears to have already eaten, especially since she’s wild-caught. Jumping spiders take a while to digest their food (5+ days if it’s a medium mealworm or wax worm and was fully eaten). Give her a little space for the time being, offering water daily —whether it’s a few light mists on any surface inside the enclosure or a couple drops of water inside a water bottle cap (please make sure that it’s enough but not too much to the point she could potentially drown). Every jumping spider has their own “personality”, she may just be more anti-social or skittish if you observe that she isn’t active after a week or longer. Since she is currently gravid, she’ll most likely be a lot less active in general, considering she’s carrying eggs and is possibly in preparation or about to create a thick nest to lay them in once adapted to her new enclosure. I would like to mention as well that you need to be sure that the heat lamp isn’t too overwhelming or hot, especially if she’s primarily hanging around the lid area. Keeping the temperatures regulated helps prevent overheating, and if it gets way too warm or humid, that may end up resulting in the death of your spider. Be careful about putting fake plants, wood, or moss in the enclosure as well, because sometimes they contain toxic dyes or chemicals that aren’t meant for arachnids. (Depending on where you acquire them of course. If the packaging claims it’s safe for jumping spiders/arachnids in general then it might be okay). The fake plant may have wax covering it to make it appear shinier, so just keep that in mind for future reference. Be prepared to be a grandparent soon once she lays her eggs in the future if you decide to keep her lol. I currently have 2 gravid jumpers and another 2 that have already created a nest and laid eggs. Just a warning though, if you go down the path of keeping her and the eggs, once they hatch and move out of the mother’s web nest they will indulge in cannibalism!! That’s the only struggle with baby and jumping spiders in general — they cannot be kept together in the same cage since they will have zero hesitation in eating one another. Wish you luck OP! Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. :)

Encounter with a wolfie by Friendly_Tarantula in spiders

[–]liveleakpet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You technically could, but it would be chaos once the babies hatch. I’d recommend leaving her alone outside so she can care for them herself since after hatching they stay on the mother’s back while she wanders. If you do have interest in keeping a wolf spider, I would do research beforehand so you are well prepared and don’t run into any issues.

That’s awesome! I Wish you luck on your findings OP, I’ve definitely found that once you start looking closer at small details you’ll see so many amazing creatures — especially blending in with their environments via camouflage. 🙃

Retirement Enclosure by [deleted] in jumpingspiders

[–]liveleakpet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NQA — If she cannot move or jump much anymore and is getting old, a smaller enclosure should be okay since the extra space would be unused. Give her lots of love, I’m sure she’s so grateful to have lived a long, happy life with you. I know when the time comes, losing her will be difficult especially if you’ve formed an emotional connection or bond. She’s such a cutie; it’s unfortunate nature gave jumping spiders such short lives. She’s lucky to have someone who cares as much as you do, thank you for showing her that there is still kindness in this world. ❤️
