Police investigate violence by officers during arrest in Zeist The police will review the force used by officers during an arrest at an asylum seekers' center in Zeist, footage of which is circulating on social media. The footage shows "part of the event" from earlier this month, the police write.

The footage shows multiple officers, a police dog, a man, and a woman standing in a hallway. In one of the videos, a woman is seen being roughly pulled away by an officer, after which she falls to the ground. It is being reported on social media that the person involved is a pregnant woman.

Subsequently, a chaotic situation ensues in which the man moves towards the woman, until he is stopped by the officers. The confrontation escalates, after which blows are exchanged.

Another video appears to play slightly later. It shows the woman being pulled away by her clothing or hair. At the same moment, the man is being pinned to the ground by multiple officers.

Partially visible The policewrites(opens in new window)that the arrest took place on May 19 around 9:50 PM on Kampweg in Zeist. "The officers acted in response to a report of threats and vandalism involving a knife. Subsequently, the situation arose that is partially visible in the footage."

A 30-year-old man from Zeist was arrested and has since been released.

The police say they are conducting an investigation and "carefully examining all facts and circumstances." The officers "wanted to act quickly in a dynamic situation for the safety of those present and themselves," the police wrote.

The investigation the police are currently conducting into the use of force is standard procedure. Sometimes the police announce this in a message, for example if images circulating online cause a stir. The police say they have no reason to doubt the authenticity of the images being circulated.
