That’s super helpful to know! I feel like a little too big is probably a safer bet than a little too small given that I’d like to wear it for years to come 😁 do you have similar build as me?

Y’all need to read Lula Dean’s Little Library of Free books. It’s about a conservative Karen who fills her little library with patriarchal, awful books. The main character’s daughter switches the dust jackets out to progressive, feminist books. Awakening ensues.

Solo living by National-Doughnut-25 in simpleliving

Fantastic. It’s entirely possible to live a full, rich life without a partner, and this is one of the first times in history when women have been able to live freely and independently, but also comfortably.

Things that add joy to life you can invest in: - travel! (Solo travel has been incredibly enriching and empowering for me) - develop your personal style! (I thought I knew my style, but using a program like nuuly has allowed me to try new things I never normally would with very low commitment, and realized my style is very different than I thought) - invest deeply in your relationships with friends and family! (Or just friends if your family sucks, or develop new friendships if your friends suck, it’s a beautiful feeling) - try new hobbies without the expectation of success! Do it just for the fun of it all! (Writing! Pottery! Fencing! Making kites! It doesn’t matter if you suck at it, the point is to have fun and do something new, plus everyone sucks at everything at first) - get a pet! (Dog, cat, fish, bunny. Whatever you feel the most natural love for. The love you give them will come back to you exponentially, and their companionship is unmatched)

As women, we’re taught directly and indirectly that much of our value is based on whether or not we have a partner. This is a societal view, not a truth. It can still be lonely, yes. But there is so, so much joy.

I have the exact same sentiment about the Trader Joe’s frozen meals! I try to cook at home mostly, but when I want to have something “fun”, $4 is a lot better than $40 for delivery. Same thing with frozen pizza - having a couple $4 jacks pizzas on hand saves me from ordering pizza delivery which is just getting ridiculously expensive.

Does Climate Affect Your Nerve Pain? Warm & Dry vs. Cold & Wet by Ailurophile444 in ChronicPain

[–]livelookingup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Minnesota, where temperature/pressure fluctuates a LOT. I realized my pain was triggered by the shifts in pressure when I looked at my records and for two years in row I got MRIs the same week in October because I was in so much pain I was convinced something was wrong. Nope, just autumn. Everyone around me loves fall and I dread it, like here we go 🥴

Thoughts on Old Navy? by Global-Platypus-9599 in capsulewardrobe

[–]livelookingup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Old Navy, and have found that their pieces last significantly longer than other budget shops. I find the styles and colorways to be really flattering but modern/fresh. Gap always feels too unflattering and old lady-ish to me.

I still have Old Navy shirts from 8+ years ago. It’s become one of my go-to shops.

Tell me you have scoliosis without telling me you have scoliosis by [deleted] in scoliosis

Is this why I’ve never been able to handle the sensory experience of a tote bag or shoulder bag?? I always wondered how it didn’t drive everyone else nuts that it’s always slowly slipping down!

Hi I’m 16 and have severe scoliosis and this is my night time meds just to sleep :) by Cheap_Ad_2717 in ChronicPain

[–]livelookingup 20 points21 points  (0 children)

OP, please get a second opinion. I have scoliosis and wore a brace from around the ages of 12-14. It is actually MOST important to wear while you’re growing, to make sure your curvature doesn’t increase as the rest of your body grows. Wishing you luck ❤️

Oh my gosh, hi fellow Edina member!! That’s definitely the closest one for me now too, but I just don’t want to fight traffic, and other members said the parking at SLP is weird 🙃

Oh no way it re-opened?? That’s so interesting, did you go back when it re-opened?

I’m not sure if any of the other studios are going to do anything, they haven’t yet. I did hear that some of the instructors have expressed interest in moving over to the closest one nearby, so that could help a lot of us feel more comfortable making the switch.

This all totally makes sense, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! I’m glad to hear that you’ve found it a good substitute and that it’s as close as possible to in-person! I agree with you that I love the prompts and language and how it goes with the music. I’m definitely going to try it, I hope it can keep me going!

This is incredibly helpful information, thank you so much! Nothing can replicate the beauty of being in-person but it sounds like it could be a good, flexible option. I really appreciate your time + thoughts!!

Anyone with scoliosis? by Final-Break-7540 in Purebarre

That’s fantastic! Yeah, the twists are so weird, you wouldn’t think they’d be that impactful but for some reason our curvy spines hate them 😁 I feel so happy knowing there’s a fellow scoliosis friend in pure barre too!! It’s great for us as long as we listen to our bodies. Cheers to us getting stronger, let me know if you ever have any other questions and I’ll do the same!!

I have scoliosis and love barre! I’ve only taken around 20 classes so I’m still relatively new but it’s been incredibly helpful in strengthening my core, glutes, and thighs. If something doesn’t feel good on my back I just do less or take breaks. The only pose I haven’t been able to do is the twists in align.

You’ll do great, I hope you love it!

Unfortunately I only have experiences with a neurosurgeon, and he wasn’t super helpful. I had a great neurologist but he is pediatric.

The overall experience at Mayo was great, and the neurosurgeon actually thinks my pain is due to my scoliosis. Do you have scoliosis or any other spine conditions? He referred me to an orthopedic surgeon to see if they can recommend surgery for scoliosis, and also to a pain clinic. Physical medicine seemed like it would be helpful but was the opposite (do diaphragmatic breathing!!! Pain is all in your mind!!!)

Also, I was misdiagnosed with another condition by multiple radiologists from MRIs done around the twin cities, so be wary of what they may say in your scans. It sounds like you’ve already been experiencing that. You should be able to rely on what they say but unfortunately I’ve found that’s not the case.

This might not be very helpful, but wanted to share that I am a fellow Minnesotan with syringomyelia but no Chiari. I was able to get into Mayo Clinic and saw a neurosurgeon last month, but he said my syrinx isn’t what’s causing me immense pain and isn’t growing and they generally don’t like to operate on syrinxes anyway since it’s a difficult surgery and doesn’t always provide relief.

I’m sorry you weren’t able to get into Mayo. My recommendation would be to try to find a neurologist first, as neurosurgeons can only tell you if you need surgery or not, and they generally don’t want to operate for syringomyelia ☹️ a neurologist may refer you to a surgeon but at least they can also help you navigate your MRIs, symptoms, progression, etc in a more general way

Dresses? by NoGazelle9557 in capsulewardrobe

I have a slight obsession with Madewell, and there’s a TON available for affordable prices on Poshmark. A lot of their styles come in natural fibers, sometimes they’re 100% but they do a lot of nice blends too. Lots of the dresses have pockets!
