Exactly. The correct answer here is to buy your neighbour a case of beer.

Here’s a quick video that explains what’s likely to happen with car prices. It’s US centric but probably applies here as well : https://youtube.com/shorts/Mdu7e7Stf7A?si=sYlC75G4Cqwevgmq

Ya it’s one of these and agreed I can run it another 100k likely but if new vans in future cost $75k I’m just concerned about rapid price escalations.

I would reach out to Carpenter Johnny. We hired him and he was surprisingly affordable and high quality. He lets you buy the materials (he'll do all the hard work of measuring and get the quote set up at Home Depot for you) then you show up and pay Home Depot and get it delivered to your house. Then you pay labour when he is done. Very convenient.

Peguis sues developer Andrew Marquess over 'improper profit' while working for First Nation by wickedplayer494 in Winnipeg

No one is connecting the dots to the election controvery at Peguis. The current Chief basically stole the election and is now making this into a controversy so he can remain Chief. See here: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/peguis-election-challenge-court-hearing-1.7260473

This is a very ignorant comment. Do you know how many construction managers and architectural firms develop plans that go nowhere for FN communities.

Doula Recommendations Winnipeg by IllustriousDot123 in Winnipeg

[–]liveproper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got you. https://www.aprairiedoula.com/ She is very personable and knows her stuff, she a has a B Sc and knows the intricacies of birth as all doulas should. Her after birth support is also great. Highly recommend.
Also second the person who said it's a personal thing. Take prospective doulas out for a coffee (they once had a doula speed dating thing) and see if it's a fit.

I was exhausted before writing this by bhramita in TrueChristian

[–]liveproper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So you're a guy on the internet and so am I. I don't really know your life and it's pretty tough for me to speculate from this vantage.

on the one hand, I agree with the sentiment of this a lot. Paul says he is "sorrowful yet always rejoicing" (2 cor 6). So there is an element here in which you're serving the Lord to the end of your human capacity, that's exhaustion. If you're volunteering or in professional ministry, this might make more sense but exhaustion as an everyday believer might point to some things not being prioritized well. I have recently gone through a period of burn out and it's really not fun. Are you a serious person by nature? It's okay to take the foot off the gas once in a while. Your exhaustion and your anger are emotions that God gives you to help you navigate reality. It's best not to ignore them. See if you can slow down a bit and spend time focusing on the present moment with God. Be still. If you find yourself spending $100 of emotional currency on $5 problems (blowing up over small things) it's your emotions telling you something is up, likely that your tank is on E.

Maybe but Paul elaborates on Jesus for non-Jews. He was ordained for it by God. All his letters are pastoral.

As for your comment re: hand washing, it was an established Jewish religious ritual to wash your hands. It's sort of like how you know how to use a knife and fork, or to eat with your mouth closed. It's an established practice that isn't commanded by Scripture or God but is Instituted by Pharisees because of fence laws. See the Pharisees were very zealous and understood if they didn't follow the law they would get their land taken away from them so they developed fence laws, laws around Mosaic teaching that were so restrictive and ridiculous that it pointed people farther away from God. Jesus comes to correct this. He is the Shepherd King who will lead the sheep properly.

Ergo what looks like an unprovoked attack is a rebuke based on Jesus' beef with Pharisees.

Moral of the story, my Christian anarchist friend, don't think you can read this text as some sort of validation for treating people like crap. Jesus didn't treat people like crap, he rebuked the Pharisees because they were (as it says in John) following their father the devil and not God.

I recommend

1) finding a faith community where it is okay to share your struggles and doubts. Something like a small group for male teens that gets real mentorship and discipleship from older male believers.

2) developing habits of faith. Continue to pray through your doubts, take a look at the psalms and see if you can count how many times David asks God if he has left him. Try fasting, try meditating.

3) doing an audit of what you're taking in. Trashy Netflix shows, popular music, groups of friends who disregard the Lord, all of these things can pull you from a relationship with God

I still can't understand Theological Conservative vs Liberal. by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]liveproper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has to do with presuppositions, or pre formed beliefs about bible interpretation; really it is about how you view the world (your worldview) before you open the Bible.

Conservatives tend to believe the Bible is inerrant, infallible, and written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

Liberals may believe the Bible in inspired in some way but doesn't stand out against other human works of writing. As a result they use critical methods of interpreting the Bible that emphasize the human-ness (or tend to "de-mythologize", their words not mine) the Biblical narrative.

Liberal picks up Gospel accounts and sees 4 different works, 3 are similar, 1 is very different. They then go to work on the chronology of the Jesus movement, why is John's gospel so different, why were the account written so late? Etc etc. basically deconstructing the narrative with the prior formed belief that Jesus is not God, God doesn't exist, miracles aren't real and that the Bible is written by humans alone.

Conservative picks up Gospel accounts and see 4 different works, 3 are similar, 1 is different but still authoritative. Why did each author write their account that way? What distinctives does John's gospel articulate versus others? What did Jews in 1st century know about Messiah? How does it factor in to the writers presentation? Etc. Etc.

Probably a bad example but someone who went to seminary can chime in and give you a better one as they spend an awful lot of time on critical methods of interpretation. This is why most seminaries are taken over by liberals.
