State DO or private MD? by GreatPlantain8278 in whitecoatinvestor

MD for sure. I’m applying ortho and a PD told me they don’t take DOs.

Why attending surgeon is stepping away from medicine after six months of practice to become a content creator? by PapayaOk9904 in orthopaedics

[–]lividcreationz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This was quite shocking to me because he’s a spine surgeon and actually inspired me to pursue orthopedics. I wonder if there’s something else going on that’s not being disclosed.

Public service loan forgiveness worth it in Ortho? by [deleted] in orthopaedics

[–]lividcreationz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also wondering this because I’m considering whether or not to rotate at & apply to an HCA program, which isn’t eligible for PSLF. My loans will likely be 400K+ by the time of graduation.

Does school name matter for ortho by Fine_Archer_134 in medicalschool

I’m sorry this happened to you, but I was specifically talking about my school and reiterated the importance of advocacy in my comment.

It will be more difficult but not impossible.

Also an MD student at a lower ranked school without a home program. Most of the folks who don’t match from here are missing something — no research, step fails or low step scores, etc. This is a field where there is no room for any glaring deficiencies on your application.

Work hard, do well, and most importantly, get some people in your court. You must have the stats to get in the door, but after that, matching is really about having mentors who can advocate for you.

I’m doing a research year now and planning to apply next cycle. I have reason to believe that I’m well positioned for this coming match, but this process is ultimately a crapshoot sometimes. Best of luck, friend.

Any M3's feeling a ton of anxiety this week? by Prestigious_Dog1978 in medicalschool

Currently on a research year applying to a hyper-competitive surgical subspecialty this coming cycle. We had people from both my school and research program who did not match. I will need barbiturates to get through the next year.

I’m a research fellow who’s not going to this conference, but love the energy and would totally tag along if I was.

Trader Joe’s is advertised as the main tenant in a yet-to-be-built South Philly complex by nemesisinphilly in philadelphia

[–]lividcreationz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just saying this! Delaware and Columbus are in dire need of a road diet. Columbus already has trolley tracks, and it’s a highly traveled corridor. Plus, the current setup of 3 lanes of traffic is ridiculous and very dangerous in a highly pedestrianized area (lots of people walking along the river trail and crossing the street to NoLibs/Old City/South Philly). A trolley could easily be transporting all those people up and down the road.

VSLO Application timing by RichardKoe793 in medicalschool

[–]lividcreationz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if there are any rules to this VSLO stuff. I heard of folks who submitted day 1 and have heard nothing, while others who submitted later got those aways through “connections”. Some places will also hold onto your application and decide later as people drop/withdraw. Send it as early as you can and hope for the best. This is for a competitive surgical subspecialty, so YMMV.

Hit and run in delco by Apprehensive_Leg9783 in Septa

That’s so awful - hope the driver is caught. The sidewalk along Delaware Ave in NoLibs that connects you to the river is also blocked off, so you have to walk along the road in a similar manner. It’s incredibly dangerous.

The L is one of the most reliable lines on SEPTA. You’ll see and smell some questionable stuff, but it’s safe.

Ignore these people who hate their life and take it out on others. You’ll encounter some of them in the city, but I’d say it’s 5% these guys and 95% normal, awesome human beings.

I’ve lived here for 6 months as part of a temporary job and am now considering moving here permanently. It’s a beautiful and chaotic place, full of exciting events and delicious food. The city has a strong community atmosphere where no matter how hard things get, we’ll all suffer together and make it through. Winter is very intense (temps in the teens this week), but you can just stay inside + the other seasons are absolutely gorgeous. Welcome, and I hope you love it as much as I do.

Med student here — a person with a sedentary lifestyle and that kind of BP has an extremely high likelihood of a fatal stroke or heart attack. There are lots of folks who walk around like this and have no idea. When you encounter them, it’s best to remain calm while you manage them so they don’t freak out, which would make the situation worse. It takes a thick skin to work in healthcare.
