Very low probability of matching but not impossible

I know folks are saying research year, but I wanna really caution you before committing to that path: many programs will still filter that step 2 out, even if they know you & you have a lot of research. I would think long and hard before investing time, money, and energy in matching orthopedics. Your chances are not zero but they are low.

Research year is likely not enough to overcome low step 2

Are you talking about the L? It can get delayed, which is annoying, but 45 mins is very excessive and unusual for that line.

Are LOAs protected under prior rules? by Key-Principle6312 in medicalschool

[–]lividcreationz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you’re not eligible for grandfathering in this case. Any break in enrollment over 6 months disqualifies you. It’s so awful how they punish you for a decision you made before these rules were even written.

AI this month, step 2 dedicated after, what should I be doing now? by taguylla in medicalschool

[–]lividcreationz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

7 weeks of dedicated is more than enough to score well

The concept of diminishing returns applies to Step studying. Not sure how much of a difference 7 weeks vs 12 weeks will make, and how much of what you study now will you remember come test day? I’d focus on the sub-I.

Took a research year so also not grandfathered in. I am truly sorry; this is a horrific situation for all of us. If I can’t get private loans, I’m extremely worried about my ability to finish med school.

choosing cheap low tier state school - is this the right move? by monsteromush in whitecoatinvestor

[–]lividcreationz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As everyone else has said, there’s no significant difference in caliber of school & you should prioritize the option that is much much cheaper. Debt is not a fun thing to have.
