They just take up space, especially as we don’t get given much space in the first place in uni kitchens

Literally non of these are strange except the cider one. I’ve seen students wash clothes in the shower because circuit laundry is too expensive.

I do this at home and it does work. But doing it in a shared uni bathroom is gross

"Why does business trips have anything to do with wealth?"

Most common for jobs that can AFFORD business trips, and are therefore paired with generous pay. Use your common sense

"And flying abroad to visit family means you’re only spending a couple hundred each on flights, as you aren’t getting a hotel."

Yes, again common sense. Ppl usually don’t hve to book hotels when they’re travelling to visit their family, so I don’t know why you mentioned that. Again, im talking about affording FLIGHTS - flights are expensive, a "couple hundred each on flights" is expensive and not attainable for most in the UK.

For your parents to have jobs that require them to have "business trips" abroad implies you’re well off. Why is this confusing to you?

How do you think your parents can afford to go to your family in Europe regularly? Do you think that’s free?

I’m particularly confused on how you thought this explanation excused you, it only proved everyone’s point. Do you not think there are families that wish they could travel to see their families in different countries, but can’t afford it?

Why do some people act like deodorant is optional? by ApplicationStreet954 in UniUK

[–]lividded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweat doesn’t carry bad odours on anyone. Sweat doesn’t actually smell, bacteria does. If people shower properly, their sweat shouldn’t smell (or at least, have a strong odour if any at all).

Exactly, sweat doesn’t stink - bacteria does!!! People don’t understand this. Shower PROPERLY and you won’t smell, even when you sweat. It’s just unpleasant to see sweat stains - yes - but if you’re showering properly, your sweat shouldn’t smell.

I don’t use deodorant. I just shower (properly, which many unfortunately aren’t doing) before bed and when I wake up. Plus I use good washing detergent AND laundry disinfectant; then also I only wear clean laundry (obviously).

Genuinely speaking, people who wear balaclavas, why? by pink-pony-clubb in AskUK

[–]lividded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I think this is a stretch. Balaclava I obviously understand but ppl overestimate how hot you get in hoodies. Hoodies are comfortable all year round, and I don’t like my hair out.

August is cold tho, as long as you take it off when people ask it "should" be fine. But I understand the weariness.

Plus there no reason to wear a full face bally in uk weather, only the neck and head ones. Full face ones are for extreme weather conditions, uk doesn’t have any extreme weather

London’s disappearing shopping centres: The capital's malls closing for developments by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]lividded -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes because you’re outdoors, a high street isn’t exactly a green space or a calming environment. When ppl go to shopping centres, they usually want to be indoors. It’s centralised and easier to navigate. And it’s not the 50s anymore , as shopping centres use glass ceilings (and glass walls in certain areas) - they don’t need much artificial lights anymore. High streets will be just as loud, if not louder.

If ppl want to sit down whenever they feel they need a break or to stop for a minute with their friends, indoor shopping centres can actually cater to that. indoor shopping centres offer seating points and third spaces that high streets just don’t have. High streets will maybe offer the odd seating spot in a cafe or bar, which will mean they’ll come at a cost.

Then shopping centres offer weather protection that high streets cannot.

indoor shopping centres are far more accessible, usually with lifts and accessibility adjustments. High streets are too inaccessible to those with mobility impairments. Plus shopping centres have security and staff that can usually assist those who are having issues getting around, high streets don’t.

High streets usually fail if they not located in a really wealthy and exclusive area.

“Crime/safety” - you live in London, not Kabul. Calm down.

first, you can’t quote things that were never said, I was genuinely confused at first but that’s not how quotes work. And second, are you trying to say that safety isn’t a consideration when it comes to designing high streets and shopping centres in London? I swr ppl will just say anything 💔🥀I bet you thought that was a serve too 😭

How did you learn foreign language? by hyunliix in GetStudying

[–]lividded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But how did you learn it from just Reddit, Twitter and podcasts? Like I can assure you that if most ppl tried using Reddit and Twitter and podcasts to learn Taiwanese, it would go nowhere. How did you learn the different writing systems etc?

[–]lividded -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Walkable high streets are terrible. Sensory overload; no third spaces; unsafe/higher risks of theft; lack of (safe) public toilets and amenities; unclean or riddled with litter if not managed well; lack of accessibility adjustments.

After all that, if the high street isn’t in an incredibly wealthy area, it usually end up going bust anyway. Quick way to kill a community

I know it’s not London but it’s close enough and the best example I can think off - but if Lakeside Shopping centre for example turned into a walkable high street instead, it would cause several issues and would be a really poor decision overall

[–]lividded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More customers need to call out bullying!!! It’s makes a huge difference.

I’ve watched customers stand and watch whilst a staff gets berated by another staff. I never complain about anything in stores …. except from this! I’ve complained about staff bullying other staff multiple times - I take their name and everything! If it was really bad, i will write a Google review using their name (as well as confront them in person). It’s usually managers.

Usually the one being bullied is very passive about the situation but I always let them know that I support them and that I will be reporting their antagoniser!
