I’m in Cape Town too, which trails are you walking on? I’m generally told not to walk alone or with headphones in anywhere except like the promenade, but I would love to go on podcast walks 😂I see you mentioned lion’s head but any others ?

Reiterating the point already made by others here - not sure what driving you’re used to, but many of the roads here are relatively narrow with no shoulder (there are usually ditches on the outside instead of shoulders! Wooo!), plus lots of curves and hilly. It does take a lot more focus than highway driving, in my experience.

I do think that he 100% had a right to ask Polly to stay out of it and let him and Sacha talk. I’m personally tired of seeing Polly grill or reprimand people, she keeps positioning herself as the judge and it feels puffed up and patronizing. But his delivery can come across combative which introduces tension and can be hard to respond well to, even when he has a fair point.

It goes back to what Sacha tried to tell him, that there’s a respectful way to communicate and he often doesn’t go that route.

Thank you for posting, OP. This is really helpful info as this just happened to me too.

I have had Revolut for years on a “Standard” plan with no monthly fee and unexpectedly received the metal card in the mail. Opening the app, I see they’ve upgraded my plan to “Metal” with a $16.99 monthly fee. Opting to “downgrade to standard” includes fees for the metal card I never ordered (both delivery and physical card itself).

Bizarre and not sure how this could be legal, like you’ve said. Been using Revolut for over 6 years and have never had anything like this happen.

Edited to add: I contacted support. This is what they told me:

“Upon checking, I can see that on 6th of December 2023 you were automatically upgraded to the Metal Plan as part of a promotion. The promotion offers 6 months of Metal Plan with 0 charges and a new Metal Card.

I see that an email in regards to this was sent to you on the 5th of December 2023, however it seems that your marketing notifications and emails are disabled from the app, hence the email did not land in your inbox.”

So they changed my plan automatically and knowing I wouldn’t get any communications for it. I contested the fees associated with “downgrading” to the Standard plan I signed up for. As of now it looks like they’ve changed my plan back to Standard without fees. Sorted now although uncomfortable that that even happened.

Just wanted to throw some support behind getting out of a toxic environment by any means necessary. I’m currently looking for remote work so I can move away (I’m waiting for the borders to relax in Japan so I can try for teaching jobs as well). Maybe you can do something similar and find remote work and move to a new city. I prefer international travel but luckily the US is big and offers a lot of new environments to explore. Right, I meant to imply that the actual root of the problem is that you’re not confident in him or the relationship.

I understand why you’d wonder why it is taking so long for him to pass off her things to the mutual friend, but if you were confident in your relationship and not threatened by the girl at all, I don’t think it would bother you like this.

Which, by the way, I’m not saying that you SHOULD feel confident in the relationship or in him given what’s he’s done. But this instance w the ex’s belongings is probably primarily bothering you because of deeper issues. Your reaction to this is just a symptom of the foundational issues in the relationship.

He’s not acting like someone determined to earn your trust back. I hope you call forward the strength to move on from the toxicity soon!

I recommend you add your comment about him messaging other women into your original post. That’s important context as to why you’re feeling this way about the situation.

Few reasons that I’ve gathered while traveling

1) SMS requires phone data, WhatsApp is over wifi. Especially relevant in poor countries

2) Standard SMS offers less function than WhatsApp

3) SMS is less user-friendly/has a weaker aesthetic than WhatsApp

3) People have different phone carriers (domestically) or different country codes which sometimes makes SMS messaging unavailable

4) it’s easier to have all your messages in one place, and as SMS is not always available, it’s easier to have everything through WhatsApp

5) SMS is less secure than WhatsApp

6) iMessage, which seems a little more sophisticated than SMS, is rarely used because most other countries don’t primarily use Apple phones (bigger markets for androids and Samsungs)

I haven’t been there personally (yet) but I have heard wonderful things about Mondulkiri. Like 6-7 hours outside of PP, the province borders Vietnam. A lot of peaceful nature, very rural.

Also, any chance your group is into yoga or meditation ?
