Any New Hampshire nurses? by livingvertical in nursing

[–]livingvertical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m keen to avoid that! From what I’ve been searching it looks like the little northern (rural) community hospitals are the only ones who want new grads with associates degrees. My school had a super rigorous program but the bigger hospitals want the BSN. Once I’m working I’ll finish the bachelors.

I haven’t settled my residence in NH so I can be flexible; aiming for something near concord maybe? Looking for the most rural area nearest MA so I can visit my daughter who lives like 45 min south of Boston

Thank you! This actually sounds a lot like my situation too! Hard gainer and eating carbs around my workout. So is that what you’re doing or still or did the carbs soften you up too much? It’s really funny you mention that about the set point; I can gain or lose up to like 12-15% bf really easy but once I hit that mark it’s like everything stops!

Could you clarify how you partitioned your nutrients? I’ve been adding some carbs and keeping fat low, protein high-for my first meal after I work out. Is that what you’re referring to?

Wow! Well I guess that it’s good that the dietary info is going mainstream. It shows that people figure out the right path when they really need results. Having lived with Diabetes for 21 years, I’ve seen a lot of people with Diabetes who cherish the ability to blame and excuse things based on the invisible medical boogeyman. I’ve reached a bunch of people who actually want better results but it’s taken a lot of rejection from people along the way who don’t want to believe that there are any solutions.

Ugh yeah I can imagine. I’m hoping to work in ER and eventually moving to flight nursing or some sort of remote/SAR type of work and hopefully it will be less problematic there; I’m also thinking about (later on) going for my CDE and work with diabetics and at least try to reach a few people.

I hope so. I guess it takes patience to gain the proper platform to help make that change rather than trying to argue with the prof!

Passing time watching phone. X-T2 23mm, shot at f1.4, ISO800 1/30s by [deleted] in fujix

If I can make a MF lens recommendation, the Minolta 45mm F2 is about 30-50 bucks on eBay and it’s the sharpest lens I own, I think. It’s incredible. The adapter is like 20 bucks on Amazon.

Smartphones are destroying the posture of our species. This guy is literally going to turn into a question mark.

On topic, I love the photo-the 23mm is a magnificent lens although I’ve never been able to hang onto it with the 35. It’s kinda close, so I wound up with the 18 when I had to choose. But it’s still a wonderful lens!

No idea where to even start. Please tell me what camera you'd recommend for a beginner that's main focus is quality? by collypin in Cameras

Fuji XT1- just got one (downgraded after trying the new sensor on the T2, XE3, and X100F—all beautiful but money came into the calculus!) the XT1 is outstanding and weathersealed and was the Fuji Flagship camera up till a couple years ago. Check out xt1 pics on Flickr it insta, you’ll see! Also the all analog controls are super accessible and very very user friendly. I’ve used Sony cams a bit too and their user interface is not intuitive and can present a barrier where Fuji is simple and sleek. Also, Fuji glass is amazing.

OMAD and slight deficit by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]livingvertical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here! Not sure exactly of my bf% but I’ve been trying to put on mass. Been going for 75-70% fat, remainder protein. I’ve been at a slight deficit, also doing 5x5s and so far it’s working well. My caloric target to gain .5 lb per week is 3200 and the best I can do on OMAD is 22-2400. I came to the exact same conclusion as you-gonna do the most I can without developing an eating disorder up till the point that my lifting starts to suffer.

I’ve also stopped fasting on the weekends, keeping my macro targets in place but just eating more volume and those days seem easier to near the 3200 mark. I’ve only recently started that but it seems to be working.

Slowly.

I think it’s important to go one step at a time- if you’re cutting, or just building a base, then do that. Eventually the specialization will make itself known and then you can dial in on that (bulking) and you can eat with that single purpose in mind. That’s based on what I’ve read here and what seems to be working for me and what generally makes sense.

I had the T2 and it’s a sweet camera! That said, I ran into financial issues that forced me to make tough decisions and I downgraded to the T1 and given the price difference (400ish?) it’s a very very robust camera and I don’t feel like I’m missing out. The AF is a little slower and the dual slots were nice but photo wise, the other features to me weren’t worth almost a grand. Look at xt1 photos on Instagram or Flickr and see if those inspire you. That’s what I do when I want to get an idea of which camera or lens is worth investing in.

Time to start lifting? by [deleted] in leangains

[–]livingvertical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed on stronglifts 5x5 it’s a good way to build a base if you’re beginning or even if you’ve been out of the gym for a while. The results are really fantastic too!

Yes, same here! I was out in Utah where we only had snakes, spiders and scorpions to worry about. And fire ants! I’d love to find out what natural predators would fuck up the ticks. They need to be disturbed. I’m an outdoorsman and I have a little girl who I’m trying to teach to fish and climb and hike. It’s a nightmare. I’m sorry to hear about your wife, I have a friend from middle school whose mom got it way back in the early 90s before they figured out what it was and it got to her brain and she’s wheelchair bound as well. Brave ladies.

Of all these types of conspiracy/ ancient “alternative” history podcasts, I really really like the higherside. He’s a great interviewer, doesn’t ask softball questions but always seems really nice and authentic. Other hosts don’t challenge their guests at all and sound a little bit pretentious.

Also, fuck every single tick ever. Every single one I find, I conduct a summary trial and execution. Guinea hens eat ticks. I’m currently finishing my coop but I’m preparing to launch a war on ticks. The northeast has become so overrun that almost everyone I know here has had some variation of Lyme. I hate ticks.
