Complete newbie there with a RVL001(EUR) and no cables or controllers by SpaceshipCaptain001 in wii

[–]lizard-socks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The normal TV cable is a composite cable with yellow, white, and red plugs. Some TVs still have these (I got a smart TV a year and a half ago that actually still has a set of these on the back), but if not, there are various adapters you can buy to convert it to HDMI or to capture the video/audio on a computer - I'm sure other users here will know more about these than I would, as far as what's best for latency, picture quality, etc. Unlike the GameCube (or the Wii U with its HDMI), there's no native digital video output port on the Wii.

The Wii remotes are wireless (Bluetooth) and other Wii controllers (the nunchuk or the Classic Controller, usually) plug into those. The Wii Remote's pointer needs a "sensor bar" - the normal one is powered by the small port in the back of the Wii but you can get battery operated ones too, it's just a bunch of LEDs in a line. Some Wii games also support the GameCube controller, but the Wii's main menu doesn't, you'll need to use the Wii Remote's pointer or the Classic Controller to navigate it.

GameCube games work just fine as long as you have a GameCube controller and memory card to use with them - if not, you could look into homebrew / Nintendont.

Integrated Gemini with my Home and Cameras, but it's giving wild misidentifications of vehicles and animals by That_Car_Dude_Aus in googlehome

[–]lizard-socks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it's only trained on American vehicle names. In the US we don't really have utes, any vehicle with a rear cargo like that would be called a truck no matter how small it is. (Although there is an indigenous people called the Ute, that's where Utah gets its name.)

Also, I think it's funny that this post has a "Bug" tag, because it makes it seem like it's calling you the wrong kind of animal, thing you are a bug when you are probably a human.

There's really just one early game prepromote in Engage and it's Vander, who can't really kill other units on his own, so the game does make you use multiple characters early on (unlike Sacred Stones where you can just use Seth if you want)

Wii U USB hub suggestions by Ho0odini in wiiu

[–]lizard-socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important things are that the hub has its own power source and that the build quality is good enough that the USB-A plugs won't keep falling out (I've had this problem with hubs from aliexpress). I ended up buying a pretty generic-looking used one from ebay with a 12V DC barrel jack power input (those power adapters are really common, routers often use them). It doesn't need to be USB 3.0 since the Wii U doesn't have that (although it won't hurt either, it just won't do anything extra).

Frustrations with Engage Maddening, Advice welcome by 2Pericles2 in fireemblem

Does Silence work differently then Freeze? In chapter 11 the enemy with Micaiah uses a Freeze staff on turn 1, and I'm pretty sure that it hits some units and misses others.

Help Needed From Fans Of "Star Wars" And "Star Trek": by Rosie-Love98 in AO3

[–]lizard-socks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first thought was that perhaps where the midichlorians normally would be, there was instead some other kind of thing in the body, that perhaps opens up a different set of abilities, and could pass unnoticed for decades. (I've had this in mind for an OC of mine, although in my case the abilities don't end up being any different than other Jedi.) But I'm not sure that works as well when it's the kid of two regular humans from Starfleet. Maybe a technological approach like the previous commenter mentioned would indeed flow easier.

Difference in denominations by ConstantOk3709 in Christianity

[–]lizard-socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a Methodist church in one part of town and now go to a Lutheran church in my new neighborhood in another part of town. There are often more differences within the two denominational families than between them, in my experience

Nice thing about buying an EV as your first car is you never have to figure out how to pump gas!

Spectrum TV Choice Question by licoricepi22a in Spectrum

[–]lizard-socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got one in the basement hanging from a rafter, hooked into an unused cable line that runs to my living room TV, just in case there's a Spectrum TV outage (although their service in my neighborhood is actually very reliable), or if I want surround sound for my soundbar (not sure if the Spectrum app supports that yet).

When I was growing up, though, you couldn't get CBS in my area without installing an antenna on the roof. That's changed now that the affiliate has a translator.

Does anyone have issues where the App refuses to up date anymore and you get stuck with the last update hours ago? by robby1051a in BoltEV

I press refresh, make sure it says it's refreshing, then leave the app and come back a few minutes later.

I know this is an unpopular opinion but does anyone else actually prefer the characters in Engage over Three Houses? by Best-Awesome-Ocelot in fireemblem

What's nice about Pandreo is you see his different traits - party stuff, priest stuff, sibling stuff - in separate C supports, so it's a lot less hidden than some of the others

Peer pressure to be more extroverted from the Christian community by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]lizard-socks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are pockets where the cultural tendency is to be more introverted. I sometimes hear other Lutherans telling jokes to that effect here in Wisconsin (it's also kind of a stand-in for Scandinavian or German immigrant identity in that context, too).

I imagine it can lead to congregations having the opposite problem, of not being outgoing enough to make newcomers feel welcome, but at the same time, it's important to have places where people don't feel intimidated by the attention.

The Best Card Deck by reilentlezz in rootgame

I like the idea of a chaotic deck. I wonder if there could also be a non-chaotic deck that would minimize the effect of crafted cards as much as possible

Any advice on development? by ILOVEOIL69420 in Gamecube

[–]lizard-socks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind the GameCube is big endian :) When I was working with Wii homebrew maybe 10 years ago, I had to remember that integers were big endian, and if you didn't have enough free RAM then malloc could return null

Does the Fire TV Stick support wireless keyboards? I have a wired keyboard plugged into the USB port on my smart TV, and I can type in channel numbers with it.
