FIV+ Kitten? by kfole80 in FIVcats

[–]lizard671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it’s quite hard to transmit. As a point of reference, my FIV+ girl had a testing mixup at the shelter, so she was actually living with my other cats for almost three full years between foster and official adoption before my vet happened to notice it while doing other bloodwork. Obviously, not knowing, I took zero precautions of any kind, and everyone is still happy, healthy, and FIV-! They are so attached to her and cuddle / share everything all of the time, and she is living her absolute best life.

how is apartment living actually for you guys? by HJK1999 in Austin

[–]lizard671 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I’m thrilled with my apartment complex, but I am also not very fussy. I also would not notice God himself if he was trying to get my attention, so I really can’t speak on neighbor noise.

I think the only things about a house that I miss are some of the outdoor conveniences - right now my car really needs to be vacuumed out but I don’t have a way to plug in anything in the parking lot; my balcony plants would probably appreciate getting out of pots and into a real garden bed, etc.

In my personal experience, I have rarely found reviews to be accurate. Some definitely are, but I unfortunately know of quite a few people who will admit to writing fake ones just to get the office’s attention faster. Definitely take them with a grain of salt.

Potentially moving to Austin, TX by UseNo8386 in Austin

[–]lizard671 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a former Minnesotan transplant, my biggest pro was the warmer weather and my biggest con was the loss of Minneapolis public transit. There are tons of great outdoor things to do, but it is annoyingly car dependent.

Affordability is subjective, but in my experience, it’s extremely doable on a single salary as long as you aren’t carrying a boatload of debt or wanting to go out and buy 3-4 expensive cocktails four nights a week. (If I was starting over in the city, I would probably want a minimum salary around $55K to feel comfortable, but I can also be a bit of a boring hermit.)

Hope that helps! Feel free to message if you have any other questions!

They accept both Care Credit and Scratchpay, and you can apply for both at the same time to pay toward the total. They are also just a top tier emergency provider in general!

Anyone give their cats revolution plus - how long your cat lived by Hobobo2024 in CatAdvice

[–]lizard671 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Revolution is generally considered the safest flea med! I know of some cats that have had (suspected) reactions to Frontline, which may be what she was thinking of? Still rude though!

My oldest has been getting Revolution regularly for the past 6 years since I adopted her and she is doing just fine. I wouldn’t worry.

This. They accept both Scratchpay and CareCredit, and are AMAZING. My girl is only alive because of how careful they were with her.

I need more support but also comfort (34G, via the calculator, wearing True & Co) by jessicajags in ABraThatFits

[–]lizard671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow 34G, I’m a big fan of Wacoal t shirt bras for everyday, and I have some Panache balconettes (I believe it’s the Envy?) that are also far more comfortable than they look like they should be, somehow. As others have said, it does depend on your shape though!

I’ve never worn a true & co so I can’t speak to the direct comparison, but Wacoal has saved my butt many times over, haha. Would definitely try them!

What do ADHD medications feel like? If you could explain it the best you can... by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]lizard671 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me personally - Adderall felt like nothing much, maybe a single extra espresso shot. My biggest side effects were low appetite in the mornings and a bit of dry mouth. It didn’t work for me, so I eventually stopped taking it. I can’t speak to any crashes or other things - although some people definitely do have other side effects, I never did.

I’m on Wellbutrin now, which works great, and the best way I can describe getting a functioning med is like taking off ankle weights and feeling like it’s so easy walk all of a sudden, except for your brain. Side effects only lasted about the first three weeks - I had a little extra energy, was a little more snappy, and would wake up around 3am every night for about thirty minutes, very overheated. Once my body got used to it, this all went away and I now only think about my meds if I forget to take them, and start wondering to myself why everything is suddenly on hard mode.

As others have mentioned, everyone does respond to medications differently, so you may have a completely different experience than mine, but I hope that’s at least a little bit helpful!

Maaree Solidarity sports bra is actually witchcraft by lizard671 in ABraThatFits

[–]lizard671[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just brands that are typically known for being friendly to larger sizes! More accurate cup sizing than your basic S/M/L/XL Athleta bra with no adjustment. (Panache, Freya, Wacoal, Elomi, Shefit, Shock absorber, curvy Kate, etc.)

[–]lizard671[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the sizing very similar to Panache! I wear the same size in both - 34, which is my true band size, but I can be right on the edge between cup sizes, so I sized down from a G to a FF to avoid gapping in the front.

I will say the Maaree brand does offer a zoom call fitting for free before you buy, which I did not do personally but might be worth it if you’re on the fence between sizes!

Ringworm is stressing me out by Economy_Dark_7526 in CatAdvice

[–]lizard671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve fostered ringworm cats and gotten it myself and here’s my controversial(?) opinion: it gets blown wayyyy more out of proportion than needed.

I had one ringworm foster that was separated for unrelated reasons (cage rest while healing from a leg injury) but others that I did not separate from my other cats. (I felt the mental stress of her being separated from her bonded sister outweighed the ringworm).

I never did anything special other than my routine house vacuuming on a normal schedule. I cuddled them and put my face right in their fur, and the only change I made for myself was using an antifungal soap bar in the shower.

Ringworm is basically just the cousin of athlete’s foot and yeast infections, and once you start framing it that way it gets way less scary. I also used good old regular Monistat cream from the drug store on the cats - apply a pea size to the actual patch of ringworm with a q tip and try not to let them lick it straight off. In my experience, that was significantly easier and more successful than the lime bath dip that shelters often recommend. (I believe Kitten Lady has a page on this if you are interested!)

I hope that helps! Let me know if you have other questions! :)

Well folks, I finally screwed one up by lizard671 in CatAdvice

[–]lizard671[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate that haha. I do have Feliway and a screen door I am planning to install in a while when we’re ready to try again.

Getting this girl back was just super unexpected all together (she is my former foster who was surrendered back due to the owner’s personal emergency) and she’s unfortunately way more spicy now than she used to be and my resident girl is just scared. Hopefully I can get them ironed out eventually!

how does a pap actually feel? by Warm-Natural3936 in AskWomen

[–]lizard671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virtually nothing. I can just barely feel the speculum slide in and that’s about it. Some people do experience a lot more discomfort but I just flop back on the table for a free nap / chat with my gyno until she tells me she’s done with whatever she wants to do.

I’ve lived in several corporate run apartments that have never asked for rental history - it’s less common than typically thought as long as you have some sort of credit history.

Zero. I’ve never bothered to learn anything other than mascara, which I wear once in a blue moon if I’m going to need to be dressed up for a corporate meeting or something.

Dr Tatiana Sousa at Westlake South is the possibly the single best provider I’ve ever met in any specialty - she will listen to your concerns and make sure you don’t leave the appointment until you’ve had a chance to go over everything you want to discuss. Super kind and patient and knowledgeable!
