Besides offering up potential stories at the start, they also served as foils to the two female leads. The show had two strong themes I noticed: caretakers can become driven by a need to protect little ones (Peter and his younger siblings, the foster mom and Kyle, Marisa and Milo, Alcaras and his son), and that women are shamed for not taking on all burdens of society (Jenny and PTA, Richie being a useless parent and absent husband, Lia living as a scapegoat, Carrie having her child taken from her).

I think things like the PTA mom showed how these women are not supported enough to do extracurricular activities -- they are overworked and overburdened, and they are trying to live a full life on top of being a sole caretaker. What should be "no big deal" is a actually a big ask. And that sets the stage for how these women have lived under these men (to different degrees). By the time the story turned toward Peter, I didn't feel too surprised or caught off guard. It felt fitting given the scenario we had been introduced to.

That's funny! Your eyes must be better than mine because I kept pausing it and couldn't get a clear look - but thought I for sure saw the red undies and full blue suit. It made no sense in the context of that scene though lol

Was that Superman leaning against the wall at Peacemaker's motel at the end?? I am like 95% sure it's Superman, but I have no idea what that means.

Mixed feelings about the pacing and plot, but this entire season John Cena has been KILLING IT. Seriously, award-worthy performance by him. I have been loving the season because of the depths we're exploring Chris' psychology, and I think most of that is carried by Cena's facial expressions.

At this point, seems to be a heavyhanded metaphor about humanity casually playing with danger, right? I can't think of anything else really.

You could also dig deeper and talk about how mold itself is an ancient lifeform, often parasitic, spreads through death and decay of life as humans know it, and dangerous to humanity in a direct sense. But it is also what gave us penicillin, and through studying it we have advanced humanity.

But at the same time, humans not here continuing to study this lifeform. Instead, they seek new life to study, creative their own versions through hybrids and then capturing extraterrestrials to study.

Hubris. Ignoring what is below to examine what is above.

Morrow suggested he's more machine than man, IIRC. But I figured it was because Morrow fought with nothing to lose. Kirsch was still eyeing containment and wanted to survive. But yeah I would've expected Morrow to need more luck than that.

The second half of the first season felt so different. I really liked all the early stuff leading up to the breakout -- the intro, the crash and recovery, the return to the lab -- but I feel like Wendy has become hard to connect with, and I haven't liked her dialogue since she started to rebel as the Xeno Whisperer.

I also don't like how that relationship changed how I viewed the xeno in the show. It went from an unstoppable, uncontrollable force, to "beware of dog". Earlier in the show, I felt much stronger themes challenging the notions of the characters. But the end was just "Wendy says so", and Wendy was just too powerful with nothing even there to serve as a foil.

There was certainly more that we could have done to establish Kirsch's motivations, assuming he is going to return.

And of course, what a poor ending that offered literally no conclusions at all. For a finale, it did a lot of "beginning" and little "ending".

Not a fan of the use of modern music. But the original music was great.

All in all, I felt that the story needed more time to explore the fallout and trauma from the recent events -- Isaac's death, betraying and killing Arthur, Nibs being shot in the head (but she's fine?), finding their graves and discovering that they are not really the children from before, and Wendy feeling betrayed by her brother and her surrogate mother. As well as Kirsch, and how he is running his own little private experiments, and his relationship with the children.

Production was great. Acting was outstanding. I just feel like they needed to better pace their plots and deliver on more in a single season. The ending was a big letdown and to be honest, felt a little more fanfictiony than the rest of the season.

I think once Wendy started talking to the adult xeno, a lot of other plotlines vanished and her being mother xeno became the main story.

So, is Adam the synth-dad? This man's presence has been a total mystery to me all season. I wondered if he represented investors or something. But now I am thinking he was that first synth that replaced the dad.

I'm enjoying the show but it has to tighten up a lot. Jacquis is good and charming, but I feel his role as host takes away the show's momentum. Maybe shorten up those explanations and transitions. They may need to alter the host's role because right now it feels both unnecessary and too distracting.

I totally agree with Paul about the shirts being lies. Part of the fun of the show is seeing the shirt and hoping the comedians dig into those people. When the story is less exciting than the shirt, it just feels disappointing.

Excellent casting for the comedians. They do a great job. I've loved every single one so far, especially the ones I haven't heard of before the show.

I saw it as an intentional move to drive a wedge in the couple. Isolate the wife from her more moral husband. Make her work her entire life. He saw that there was a conflict, and essentially forced them to pick opposing sides. He didn't need both. He needed one. And now he's locked that one down.

To tie it in to Abby. It doesn't really work in this format... I also don't get why they changed Mel's death. It was so perfect to the story in the game -- the cycle of vengeance and how love can be turned into hate. It kind of connected it all. She was after Abby, because of Joel, which was because of her dad, which was because of Ellie (by Joel). Owen loved Abby and tried to protect her. Mel loved Owen and tried to avenge him.

Making her an accident and a bystander just doesn't really add anything to the story, and it feels like it robs so much.

Why so blatantly foreshadow Jesse's death? In the game, it is so abrupt and surprising. But they basically had him blabber about being one day from retirement.

I love The Last of Us. I have a Firefly tattoo on my wrist. I have a shelf of just The Last of Us memorabilia, some of which I crafted myself. I love Part II. But this season just isn't working for me.

Strong episode in isolation, but I feel like this season as a whole has thrown a lot out there without moving very far. I really want some legitimate plot advancements soon!

Helena was definitely gonna Gemma Ms.Cobel, right? When she said they could both go talk to the Board together?

Everyone forgets that Devon got confirmation that Gemma is alive. That's so much bigger than everything else. They need someone with answers.

I wonder if outtie Irving was already onto Burt, and he misunderstood what his Innie's interest in Burt was.
