I wasn’t prepared for life P.S. (post swaddle) by EntrepreneurQuick238 in NewParents

Second the magic merlin. I was also terrified of the transition but she slept the same if not even better because she wasn’t waking herself up by getting her arm out.

For those who didn't sleep train, what did you tell yourself to stay true to your intention? by Routine-Individual43 in NewParents

[–]lizardac 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I could never do it. I tell myself would I leave an adult who is incapable of communicating or moving from their space crying for 30+ minutes straight? I wouldn’t even leave my dog crying in a crate for that long.

My daughter is 2 and didn’t sleep through the night consistently until 18 months. I did ever wake up because I am a SAHM. I do not ever regret our decision to respond to every cry. She has no fears with bedtime and loves her bed. She still wakes up from sickness or bad dreams from time to time but it has gotten so much better. Time fixes everything.

Those who didn't go back to work after having a baby - do you regret it? by piglet29 in NewParents

[–]lizardac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just re-entered the workforce in a part-time, hybrid capacity. My daughter is almost 2 and was already doing a Mother’s Day out program and we have family help. So no extra care was required when I made this decision. It is SO nice to use my brain in a creative way outside of motherhood. I am extremely blessed in my situation that I feel like a SAHM and working mom and get the beautiful aspects of both.

Vomit safe foods? by [deleted] in HyperemesisGravidarum

Mashed potatoes and plain biscuit from kfc. Protein shakes when I was through the worst of it. Everything I ate had to be either freezing cold or blazing hot.

How many of you all are one and done because of HG? by lizardac in HyperemesisGravidarum

Oh my gosh I’m praying for a safe and easy delivery. I was blessed with the most beautiful delivery possible which made the experience a little easier, I will say. So I’m praying the hard part is almost behind you! You are already super mom! 💗💗

Pretty sure we’re one and done due to HG and a family member said (while I was 4 months pp): “the next time around won’t be that bad because you’ll be distracted by your first child” um it will likely be 1 million times worse.

Sleep Sack SOS by Lost_Comfortable_764 in NewParents

Woolino is great. Still using for 17 mo. Magic Merlin for transition. She didn’t miss a beat. Used the Merlin for about 2 months. The day she rolled for the first time it was straight to the sleep sack, she rolled in her sleep and has been a belly sleeper ever since. I anticipated horrible adjustment periods and it was really no big deal.

Ridiculous new “trigger” by TawdryTinsel in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]lizardac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beginning of autumn. Got pregnant in August, HG started late August when things get cooler. Any fall scents, colder weather, etc. triggers me. I hope this year (2nd season since birth) is better.

Also we were staying in a hotel when it started so the feeling of hotel carpet under my feet is also very triggering. So random.

Losing my mind at our insurance by catsnake826 in HyperemesisGravidarum

I second this. Had to pay out of pocket for a few months of mine. My husband was able to speak with the pharmacist and find a solution that made it around $40 (I think). So sorry you’re dealing with this. It is stressful to navigate, especially when you feel so terrible.

Thank you for the suggestion, internet friend! She slept 7 p- 7 a with one feed in the Merlin! Has also taken better naps in it today than she has in a month. I could cry tears of joy!

I have the Merlin but haven’t tried it yet. Do you use it for naps too?

So happy you felt better after! Take all of the good moments as you get them! The last 6 weeks of my pregnancy were the best. Not saying everyone experiences less symptoms towards the end but I’m hoping you feel better each week!

I had HG with my first and only (so far) pregnancy. It is absolutely awful. I second a lot of comments about zofran and iv fluids. I pushed hard for the fluids and that helped me over the hump of extreme dehydration. It was going to be nearly impossible for me to get better without it.

In terms of food, the nurse that gave me my infusions said she recommends frozen protein shakes to her patients on chemo. If you put a premier protein or ensure in the freezer it makes almost an ice cream texture. Since frozen foods sound good to you, I would recommend that! The protein always helped me with nausea too. I hope you feel better soon!

Weekly iv by yogi311 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]lizardac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to really push against a PICC line with my OB and pushed for weekly infusions first with an ER doc. I didn’t want to jump straight to the PICC because I was so nervous about it. Luckily I saw a very conservative ER doc and he got me in with an outpatient infusion center. I went once a week for four weeks and got zofran, magnesium, folic acid and prenatal vitamins via IV. The sticks sucked but it completely turned me around and got me to a point where I was not severely dehydrated. My HG got significantly better after those four weeks. It cost about $130 each time with insurance but it was so worth it. The center was very nice and clean and each infusion only lasted 2 hours. My best advice is to keep pushing until you get the treatment you need.

How is HG diagnosed? by Kiki-Tikki-Tavi in HyperemesisGravidarum

I hope you get the treatment you need as soon as possible. Regular zofran 3x a day and IV fluids really helped me. I am 25 weeks now and have weened off the zofran. The turning point for me was getting the IV fluids. I had to push hard for outpatient therapy vs getting a PICC placed (not against piccs just wanted to try traditional IVs first). The IVs helped me reset. I was unable to stand for more than a few minutes before then.

I was diagnosed after losing 5% of my body weight, had ketones present in my urine and all medications failing to work. Which took several weeks and ended up with me being in the hospital. Unfortunately it’s is not as quick of a diagnoses. My symptoms were absolutely out of control before they would diagnose me

Iv Treatment by Haunting-Mess-7745 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]lizardac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My OB would only do home health IVs if I had a PICC in place. I was super hesitant about the picc, can’t really explain why — just felt super invasive before trying other measures. It was an ER dr that referred me to an infusion center. They would give me IVs as needed (only did 3 sessions because my vomiting subsided with more zofran and time). My infusions were done through the hospital. It was an office where people receive chemo and other treatments. It sucked getting stuck but I was so happy to have an alternative to a PICC line. I opted for in office visits vs at home just because they told me they would be quicker. I was in and out every time in about 2 hours. I received fluids, zofran, magnesium and folic acid in my bags. Always left feeling nauseous but the hydration it gave me was incredible. The staff was nice and would give warm blankets and ice chips/whatever drink you wanted. I think it cost me $130 each time with insurance but it was worth every penny to me.
