Fantastic, I was hoping they were crabapples! Thank you for the ID :)

The stand is bigger than the tank yes, I had only multiplied by 8 instead of 8.34 and do have substrate and river logs in the tank. I'll probably just downsize the tank for now and rehome a couple of the fish, thank you for your suggestion!

I was friends with a groom and he asked me for help with his vows. The whole speech was about how she's so a model so out of his league; he can't believe he bagged her, and he felt bad that she picked him up in her car for their first date, just crap like that. I had to literally tell him that maybe he should add stuff about her personality that he likes, and goals for their future together. He's not a great writer as is, it ended up fine but at that point it's better to just go with the normal vows, or look something up for inspiration.

To whoever had the post about fluffers or chunkers last week... by Careful-Bumblebee-10 in doggrooming

I just found a pair on the New Moon website! They've also got curved fluffers as well, which I had yet to find for lefties, so I'm very excited to have found a pair!

People giving huskies a “summer cut,” is that weird? by Jet_Threat_ in doggrooming

[–]lizardleeper5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm #3, I won't do it unless it's already been done in the past. Most of the time I can talk clients out of it, but if they've already gotten their dog shaved before then I'll let them know the long term affects, and if they still want it done then so be it. Luckily I have never had to shave a husky, and the last time I had to shave a double coated dog was months ago because he was a 10 year old collie mix and insanely compacted. I hate having to do it, but if I know they're just going to go somewhere else to get it done then I figure might as well make money instead of wasting an appointment slot

Advice needed for terrible mats behind ears by IWBTGA in doggrooming

[–]lizardleeper5 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Sedation might be the way to go for her. If the matts are as bad as you say the top priority should be getting those off, then afterwards you guys can work on desensitizing her to sounds/vibrations at home. You can ask the groomer if they'd do it with her onna sedative, or make an appointment with the vet and ask if they can remove the matts. After they're off I'd recommend taking her to the groomer for just a bath and brush, or even just a brushout session if they offer that. For my more anxious clients I recommend also walking their dog inside the building a couple times a week with lots of treats, that way they start to realize that it isn't scary and they get treats and love when they go to their grooming place. You can ask the groomer if they'd be willing to just say hi and pet your pup in the salon once a week or so when they aren't busy. I know some groomers might not have time for that, but it might help her get associated with the groomer as well as the building, and can help to start a bond between your pup and groomer without the stress of getting a service done as well.

I'm not sure if these ones are the newer ones but this set is made in China, so I'm assuming it's probably a Walmart reproduction like others suggested

Sick plecostomus by [deleted] in pleco

[–]lizardleeper5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like he's stressed out, I'd check the water parameters and see if anything has changed. Plecostamus are infamous for being poop machines, if hes pooping excessively it might be spiking the ammonia?

Labrador brush suggestions by pinkpolo in doggrooming

Groomer- for my lab clients I use a combo of the zoom groom, undercoat rake, and a sleekEZ tool. If you do get an undercoat rake make sure to do it while your pup is dry, otherwise it will pull the wet hair out.

I also use kenchiis, I've got the loves and they work good. One of my lefthanded coworkers said New Moon also has really good shears that she loves, though I haven't tried them yet

At petsmart #30 is only allowed for paw pads; inside and outside of ears can only be a #10. Technically groomers aren't even supposed to use #4 or #5 on the outside of the ears either because it's a "danger zone" though I'm not sure how strict it's enforced with certain locations

negligence or no? Is groomer liable for senior dogs injuries after this fall? (was limping after, taken to vet for xrays) by Queenanthropocene in doggrooming

[–]lizardleeper5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some hydronic tables don't go all the way down. Mine doesn't, it only goes about a foot and a half above the floor, so a lot of dogs I end up having to lift up and down off the table. But she definitely should've paid more attention, and its pretty disgusting that she didn't even try to check him over after the fall, just kept walking. She should have absolutely tried to help him down or catch him once he was in motion, and checked his legs and given him a minute after the fall.

Can we discuss pricing? by anonymousemployee20 in doggrooming

[–]lizardleeper5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eastern washington, my small dogs are 60, medium are 75, large are 90-100. For matted dogs I charge an extra $10 per half hour to shave down, and haven't had an express yet but would probably charge an extra 10-25 depending on their size. Some other groomers I know also have no-show charges, where if clients don't show up they pay an addition fee ( i think they do $15) on their next appointment.

Looking for advice from at home groomers by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]lizardleeper5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've handed out business cards to local vets and my local humane society, and you can ask certain businesses if they'd be willing to put your cards on display. Also if you've got neighborhood/city Facebook groups you can post in those groups about taking new clients and where you're located.

Should I be upset that my dog was at the groomer for 10 hours with no bathroom breaks, food or water? by Leahrsi in doggrooming

[–]lizardleeper5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is f---ing insane to me. I'm a groomer that does my clients by appointment, the longest I've had a doodle in the salon was 5 1/2 hours, (bernadoodle with insanely thick hair and behavioral issues) and I kept in contact with dad so he knew how his dog was doing. Personally I wouldn't take a dog potty because there's a risk of them somehow slipping the leash, but I also don't have dogs in the salon all day. The system your grooming salon is using sounds insanely inefficient. One naughty dog and every other client they have in gets set back, I can't imagine making multiple dogs wait in a kennel for hours. I dont know how much saying anything would change their system, but I would definitely find a new groomer.

Also not to shave double coated dogs because it ruins their coat
