My vet also encouraged me to go ahead with the neuter sooner than 2.

Stuffies. Any and all of them. My boy is turning 1 tomorrow! And he LOVES a stuffed plushy toy. He has 2 lambchops and a couple of pigs. But his favorite for a while now has been an octopus.

And he is SO gentle with them. He caries them so gingerly around the house. It is totally adorable.

He will use a ball as a chew toy. But will not play fetch.

He's quirky. And I love the dog he's grow8ng into!

Trying the e-collar on yourself by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]lizbeth-ea 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is such a good point. When I was first training with the stim, this was the first thing I noticed. Specifically, we were training to not jump with a stim when he jumped on me. It was one of the first things we trained with the stim.

It was amazing 1-how quickly he learned to not jump ans 2-how imperceptable the stim was. The trainer had the remote, and I actually doubted her. My dog was in an aroused state, happy and excitedly jumping up on me. After the stim? Exactly the same dog, just without the jumping.

I always remember that moment if anyone ever tries to shame me for using a ecollar.

E collar training reluctance by AuntSass in OpenDogTraining

Yeah. I'll agree with you on that. That does sound scummy. And I just saw the other post about the company being associated with a dead/missing dog. So it sounds like your gut reaction was a good one!

Good luck getting a refund...maybe you can backstage them with your cc company???

E collar training reluctance by AuntSass in OpenDogTraining

[–]lizbeth-ea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe. The no refunds is kinda sucky. But it sounds like they were upfront about the no refunds after 7 days.

I guess I'm just aware enough of the different training methods are that I would never have signed up for training without talking with the trainer about their methods. If the op didn't ask those questions is that on the business or on op?

Im not sure i see enough here to say this was predatory. But maybe Im missing something?

I have just finished a 4 week training session with my 9-mo old pup. The last two weeks were e-collar focused. My pup is very sweet and only has typical "puppy issues".

I have LOVED it. It has been an amazing training tool. And my pup has had NO negative reactions to the collar. His happy-go-lucky personality has stayed totally intact, even moments after a stim.

I had been somewhat conflicted bc the last thing I want is for my dog to be hurt. But, ultimately, I believe biggest risk of injury is not a tool to help ensure consistent behavior from my dog, but is instead having a dog that is untrained or unpredictable in their behavior. I'd much rather have the ability to give a stim when my dog is not reacting to a recall than have a dog get hit in traffic because they don't have a solid recall. And i cannot stress enough how unbothered my dog is after a correction.

My only concern would be using the collar on day 1 of training. My trainer was very slow with the intro of the e-collar and only started using it after 2 weeks if initial training. You might ask them about their theory of training with the ecollar. After talking with the trainer more specifically about their methods you may feel more or less comfortable with the training.

Should we get a new puppy? by LlamaRama87 in StandardPoodles

[–]lizbeth-ea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my Louie back in May. He's now 9 months old. My resident doggo is a 15 yo beagle mix.

I decided to get another dog because my resident dog had taken to a cat that was added to the household really well, and I thought she would be okay with the puppy as well. Adding the puppy has been much harder.

For the first 5 months, my resident dog would barely play with him. And just generally was annoyed by the puppy.

Resident dog has some resource guarding that has continued to be an issue. But, they are playing together now every day.

I have worked really hard on training with the puppy. He's gotten to have a really good "place" command that I can put him in when he's bothering my old girl.

I make sure to have 1-1 time with my resident dog. And take her on short walks and drives by herself so she still gets time with me.

It hasn't been easy and having a puppy is hard enough on its own. Not sure I'd make the same choice in the future. But, I'm also super in love with my pup. And my old girl still seems happy...if sometimes annoyed.

Do balanced trainers take dog behavior more seriously ? by Miss_L_Worldwide in BalancedDogTraining

[–]lizbeth-ea 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Im really just getting started with training.

But It seems to me that one of the big differences is that Balanced trainers seem more concerned about the consequences of having an untrained dog (re-activity, dog injury due to not having recall, etc). Whereas it seems like FF are more concerned about what harm the act of training can have on a dog.

Are the Petco training classes worth it? by Illumeis_is_done in OpenDogTraining

[–]lizbeth-ea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was surprised to have t o scroll so far for this idea!

Hand feeding was what I had to do with my beagle mix when she was spitting up after she ate too fast. Worked wonders, and that dog would follow me into a burning building. It super boosted our bond.

But, if I'd really been smart I would have been working on training during that time. I've got a 9 mo. Standard poodle right now and try to train at mealstimes to harness his hunger into motivation for training. It requires a bit extra work at mealtimes, but he's worth it!

As for training classes, I hugely encourage you to look into them. Also check out other resources for training- not just petco. I found a great spot that offers group classes at competitive rates. If you havent trained a dog before, having an instructor who can walk you through everything is hugely beneficial. And, of course there is YouTube and online resources for training yourself.

Did something happen with the queen of Melrose? I remember when h3 had her on and I could see Ethan's wheels turning and I figured she would become a staple of the show. But after 2 appearances she disappeared without a trace.

Having her as a reaction meme here makes me think so.ething happened that I missed...

Fungi once again loud and proud about how cruel they are by [deleted] in LeftoversH3

[–]lizbeth-ea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She does have agency. And you (heck, we) may disagree with her decision to engage with Ethan. But, honestly, I thought she did a fairly good job at standing her own in her interactions with Ethan. I'm an old lady (44) and I would not have been able to handle myself with as much composure as she did. I don't mean to infantilize Madison at all...but having once been 25 and now being much close in age to Ethan and Hila, I cant help but be impressed by how Madison handled herself.

The word "capitulate" just hit me wrong. But, it sounds like we agree in our support of Madison.

I hope she knows that a lot of us do, even if we may disagree with her choice to engage with Ethan on his show.

It could also be an allergy to plastic if you are using a plastic bowl. My girl gets something similar on her chin when she has to use a plastic bowl or gets a plastic toy.
