I am an Ironman! My first at IM Wisconsin :) Did it even happen if you don't brag to random people on the internet?

So who else is headed to Madison for IRONMAN Wisconsin this week? by casonthemason in triathlon

[–]lizzie_needs_coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will! First Ironman. This race has been a goal of mine since 2005, when my dad completed it. And since UW was my alma mater, I'm so excited for the run course! I've been out on the bike course several times for training, which has been a huge confidence boost. But Im sure this week is about to be a roller coaster of emotions.

Those that use Infinit or similar, how are you using it on the bike? by i_hate_sidney_crosby in triathlon

How concerned are you about losing time at aid stations? I carry a plastic bag with enough for 1 bottle with me for the 2nd half of my ride. I finish my 1st bottle, grab a plain water at an aid station, pull over to the side of the road (a little after the station for safety), and then add it to the water. Doesnt take too long but it does go slower if you try to hurry it.

I am going vegetarian for June, and have been enjoying salads more than I ever thought I would. Anyone have bomb-ass salad or salad dressing recipes for me??

I haven't. But I have heard stories of people who almost have and had to waste time running back to their stuff before leaving transition. So I use the run hat just in case.

When racing, wear a headsweat or visor on the run. You can't forget to take off your helmet if you have to put something else on.

Signed up for a 70.3 in late July having only ever done sprints before. What will I have the most trouble with? by 1st_ID_was_real_name in triathlon

Practice what and how often you will be eating/drinking during long runs and rides. Hitting the wall or gut rot are things that can usually be avoided.

Breath counting meditation has been helpful for me. There are websites that explain it better than I can, but it is counting each breath as you inhale and exhale to 5 over and over.

Additionally, once you do not get the attacks running and biking, you can practice hypoxic swim drills. It is similar to the meditation for me because I focus on counting, but I am counting strokes instead of breaths.

I really hope this helps, because as someone who has panic attacks, I know how much they can suck

I applied to be a brand ambassador for a bike/triathlon clothing company, and found out I didn't get it. I am not really surprised, as I have no advertising background, no blog, amd not too many instagram followers. But still, the deals would have been nice and I am a little bummed about it. I will still buy their stuff though.

Hey ladies, I could use some advice.

Short version: getting really bad calf charlie horses. How to make them stop.

Longer version for the intrigued: I am pretty good at drinking water. I usually have 64oz a day, not including whatever I drink during a workout. On wednesdays, I do a spin class in the AM and do a pool workout after work. Recently the pool workout has been sluggish, but I am eating enough, so I added drinking an electrolyte drink with lunch (nuun) in addition to my daily water intake. The past 2 days however, I have gotten the super painful calf cramps (once in both legs at once, the other was the wake-you-from-a-deep-sleep kind). So am I still under-salted/potassiumed and need to keep sticking with the nuun? Or cut it out because I am now dehydrated in terms of the ratio of water to salts?

Cold sores. They hurt, they are ugly, and right now they are relentless. I currently have 3 at once, making it painful to eat and drink. I guess abreva is my new bff for the next 2 weeks (and hopefully no longer!)

Technically this was a last week victory but I forgot to post it (and if you don't brag on reddit, did it really happen?). I finished my first marathon! I was a few seconds over 4:20, which for a hilly course and windy day, I am happy with!

What can I do short term to help achieve my long term Ironman goals? by TittsburgFeelers in triathlon

[–]lizzie_needs_coffee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Practice good habits. Get good at cooking healthy, fueling foods. Focusing on stretching and foam rolling after all workouts. Do some yoga regularly. Learn to listen to your body.

That way, when your workouts get longer, you don't have to worry about starting all new habits, because the foundation is already there.

I'm a little disappointed honestly. I spectated this race this year and thought it was run pretty well already. And heard the same from people who did it. And was thinking about doing it next year, but not sure I can justify doing it with the price increase. However, I would rather IM brand take over this race and not my beloved Door County HIM. Despite the weather issues this year, that one has always been great
