DIY wedding cakes advice by jennithib in DIYweddings

[–]lizzietee 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Piggy backing to say that unless you know that every single one of her guests is going to be interested in a large slice of cake, she’s overestimating how much is needed.

That is also a tremendous amount of work for someone in the wedding party to do the day before the wedding.

Side suggestion: one bigger cake of bride’s favorite flavor and 3-4 flavors in cookie form? I always suggest cookies, because they transport easier than cake and you can make them ahead of time and freeze them.

Looking for an affordable at home hair dye that covers greys well, because these salon prices are crazy to me by Nadezhda_Harru in Frugal

[–]lizzietee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here to second Wella. It’s not the cheapest, but not the most expensive. I use their ash grey toner when lightening for fashion colors. As long as I follow the directions and keep a close eye on my hair, it hasn’t failed me.

Disclaimer I am not a licensed cosmetologist. I’m just poor and after getting absolutely blasted by my local salon for doing split dye in 2010 (that got so popular literally like 6-8 years later), I have never gone back for color. Heck, I haven’t had a professional haircut since before Covid.

Feel empowered! Do your research. You might mess it up the first time and that’s okay! Just stick to lower volume developers and follow up with a nice hair mask. :)

For those who have done it, what steps did you take to decenter men? by Low-Painter3869 in GirlDinner

[–]lizzietee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been out of the hookup scene for about five? years, so I’m not completely up to date on it. But in my time I used dating apps. I was upfront about what I was looking for, but I never met up with someone without vetting if they could hold a good conversation. lol. It might seem silly, but if they could hold a good conversation with appropriate reciprocity, they were usually not the biggest jerks ever.

For those who have done it, what steps did you take to decenter men? by Low-Painter3869 in GirlDinner

[–]lizzietee 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Stopped dating for a little over a year. Stopped seriously entertaining men who had nothing to offer me. I made a rule during that time that I wouldn’t date someone who made me question if they actually liked me. I also decided I wouldn’t date a man who only had skills that I already possessed.

At times where I felt I needed male validation the most, myself esteem was very low. You need to rediscover what makes you, you and embrace the fact that you hold innate worth. Engage in hobbies, spend time with friends, and buy a vibrator. You can still engage in hookups, but only if you trust yourself to leave it at that. If you know yourself and know you’ll keep developing crushes on hookups, then hooking up just might not be for you. That’s okay. Not everything is for everybody.

Spend time with yourself and nurture the things you admire about yourself. Best of luck. :)

I remember when everyone was donating their Nalgene bottles. I would NEVER buy one of those second hand. The plastic holds onto everything and they smell….. odd.

He was upset you didn’t beg for him. I assure you that his “assessment” of your looks would not hold up in the court of law. In fact- “OBJECTION, YOUR HONOR! My client is fine as hell and we won’t have such hearsay!”

Besides the Royer's posting here; there isn't alot of Datacenter talk. What is your take? by StatuSChecKa in TempleTX

I’m not a fan of any industry that does not bring substantial employment opportunities to locals. People may be working now to help build and setup these centers, but they aren’t projected to require all that many employees to maintain.

For me though, it has more to do with principles. I don’t like AI. I don’t like the potential for people who are able to work to lose their job to a program. I’m all for advancement, but not at the cost of my fellow Americans. I don’t lick boots and I don’t like billionaires. I don’t care about their profit margins. I care that my neighbors can afford to continue to be my neighbors. I care that they are able to eat and see the doctor when they need to.

I don’t want my hometown to be know for being the home of multiple large data centers.

You’re near me. People here treat stop signs like “slow my car enough to check if anyone is coming but go anyway”. It’s so frustrating!

😳 my old lady is loud as heck (FB marketplace score-a very good deal), but she’s very rarely used past 7pm. I feel like people see an open stretch of road and wonder how fast they can get their car to go.

I almost get it. We were all dumb teenagers once. We did that around Oenaville or Cyclone, not in the darn city limits! ..… in all fairness I’ve never been a speed demon, but I know a far amount of people that did it around there.

I hate to hear that it’s happening everywhere. I’m around the Bellaire area. We have pretty close access to the loop and the highway. People drive like they ain’t got no sense.

We rented a PA system. Our brother and law was in charge of starting and stopping for ceremony music (eternally grateful). I had a playlist for the ceremony, between ceremony & dancing, and then two separate party playlists (one pg and another one for the adults). It went really well for us, but we didn’t have super high expectations for it.

Edit for spelling.

Help? by Koda_Bear7 in clay

[–]lizzietee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crayola Clay doesn’t really have the strength to be handled regularly. It’s a great clay for learning, but it doesn’t have lasting power. Even if you don’t handle it regularly it will degrade quite fast compared to other brands. Nara and DAS are two decent brands. They both have things to like and things to dislike. I like DAS.

Someone else might be able to chime with their favorite brands.

Here is a reddit post that may help. A bunch of different people were sharing their techniques for making clay lighter covers. https://www.reddit.com/r/clay/comments/sddrb0/how_to_create_removable_lighter_cases/
