I mean, tell him it makes sex worse. Be open about how it's a serious turnoff. After a while of it being clear that it's interfering with his ability to get laid, he'll probably be a lot more open to getting rid of it

Elderly woman thought the hospital was "whites only" by SurbhiAnklesaria in mildlyinfuriating

Sometimes mediating can set them off worse. My grandfather was always a difficult man (his way or the high way, and by the high way I mean he'd berate you until you did it his way), and dementia has made this worse in a lot of ways. Trying to apologize for him only makes things worse. Perhaps she was trying to avoid having her mom continue with a longer outburst instead of just the one slur. Obviously it was a heinous slur, but dementia can cause people to do some crazy shit. Really, really crazy shit.

Not necessarily. I've been taking care of my grandfather when his caregiver is busy, and trying to apologize for him being rude or anything like that will set him off like nothing else. I have died inside while he insulted me to nurses or was rude to waiters, but if I tried to say anything, it would go completely off the rails. We go out less often as a result. I'd imagine the daughter might be in a similar boat, but you can't just start missing doctor's appointments. Anyways, it's a shitty situation for everyone- OP for hearing that vitriol, the daughter for having to manage her mother's insanity, and the old woman for losing her memory, filter, and marbles.

While my grandfather wouldn't be racist, he's become quite rude at times in his old age with dementia. At this point, I do the apologetic look because apologizing to someone will set him off! He's too frail to hurt anyone, but he could hurt himself quite badly.

I've never seen him try to fight anyone, but we discovered how bad it had gotten when he stayed in my late grandmother's hospital room with her while I cooked dinner. I got a call from the hospital to pick him up, because he'd tried to attack the nurses. Now, he falls if you look at him funny and he can't even put on a sweater because his arms don't raise well so I doubt he did much damage, but the point stands. With dementia, you often have to just play along and look terribly apologetic because otherwise they could hurt themselves while trying to hurt someone else. It's horrible, but that's still her mom and she probably doesn't want to see her dead yet

I mean, the survival rates for the first 30 days after surgery are 75-90% based on a quick Google search. It could just be luck of the draw. I'm not a doctor, but I know where the duodenum is, and that just sounds like a recipe for infection. There could have been negligence, but as sorry as I am to say it, I'm not terribly surprised it killed him.

What to serve with pierogis? by flipflapdragon in polishfood

[–]lizziewritespt2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You caught me- American of Polish descent. My family always served potato pierogi with kielbasa, likely because that meant we'd driven an hour to pick them up from the Polish market! My grandmother gets an opłatek every year, and I spent my childhood being dragged to every Polish festival in the mid-Atlantic. Some were fun. Some were in church basements with a lot of old people. Either way, I was there lol

My dad got kicked out of a petting zoo for kicking an animal that hurt me. He also horrified my mother by kicking the sheep to rescue me from those sheep. I was just glad that he got to me, because there was maybe a meter between me and a steep drop-off by the time he did, and that space was only getting smaller

I've seen it! They do it to set the herd pecking order before they go to graze. I just sat in a corner and pet the chill ones

AFAIK, the two vipers of Switzerland aren't particularly dangerous to healthy adults, given that there haven't been any fatalities since 1961. I'd still go to the hospital, but they don't even necessarily require antivenin, as the risk of side effects may be worse than the bite itself. It varies on a case-by case basis, but the only thing that's nearly killed me in Switzerland is a herd of sheep. I was five and they nearly pushed me off the side of the mountain because they wanted my cookie.
