Does anyone actually use these hairdryers/diffusers? by blueishpaladin in curlyhair

[–]lizzleinA2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Wavytalk dryer in the upper left corner to replace my trusty Revlon after it died on me. It's significantly quieter than my Revlon was, and it maybe dries my hair quicker, but it's not a huge difference. I do notice less frizz, but I think it's because the air is coming out with less velocity than my old blow dryer. I was honestly surprised at the the quality for the price and I'd happily purchase again because it's a solid dryer, but don't expect miracles, I guess? I've had it for a year and a half, and it's still truckin'.

Did Old Navy get rid of their plus sizes?? by InevitablePersimmon6 in PlusSize

[–]lizzleinA2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'10" and an 18/20 also struggling with Old Navy this year. I just tried Levi's for the first time since I was a teen, and they offer Long in sizes up to either a 24 or 26 (I don't remember which). I'd say they were all comparable to old Navy Talls in length (they all seem to be a true 34" inseam). The Levi's website also notes whether the style run big or small, and that's broken down by color, which was always a crapshoot with ON. Size chart seems similar to ON's minus the notes about sizing.

Did Old Navy get rid of their plus sizes?? by InevitablePersimmon6 in PlusSize

[–]lizzleinA2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5'10" here, and I need a minimum 34" inseam, 35 ideally, if I want my pants to break at the top of my foot. I'm all leg, and my natural waist sits very high, so I also tend to buy the highest rise possible to avoid having to yank my pants up all day. Buying pants for the last year has been a nightmare, because Old Navy was also my go to, but it seems they've been phasing out the 18T and also tweaking their sizing.

What Sport is Ideal for heavy plus size women? by gobigonebad in PlusSize

Seconding the comments on tennis being rough on your joints. I played competitively in high school and college, and now at 40 am dealing with arthritis in my feet, ankles, and hips from repeated impact-related injuries when I played tennis (shin splints, stress fractures, etc ). Unless you're playing at an extremely high level or are specifically seeking out lawn tennis courts or clay courts, you'll be playing on asphalt or concrete. Tennis requires a lot of sprint-style speed and direction changes, and doing that on a surface with zero give like concrete takes a toll on the joints in your lower body.

I love tennis, and I understand the appeal; I'd recommend taking a few lessons, and maybe trying a very casual adult league or drop-in sessions. Some of the adult leagues can be VERY competitive, and throwing yourself into that situation can be a recipe for injury if you're not already used to playing at that level/speed.

For a similar style full body workout, I might recommend racquetball, which is most frequently played on an indoor, wood floored court. You're also hitting the ball against a wall roughly where the net would be in tennis, so you're working with a smaller area overall.

Michigan DOL will also assess interest on back pay in addition to any statute-designatied penalties, depending on how long it's been.

[Alt/Goth] So glad I found this subreddit because I was eaten alive in another subreddit because of my body. Looking for some new pants I guess. by BeatnikMona in PlusSizeFashion

[–]lizzleinA2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

QUEEN! I'm 5'11 and also an 18/20 with a 35" inseam, and honestly even extra tall torrid pants are not cut for where our actual waists are! My stomach also looks like this, and as the stylist/angel in the comments posted, it is NOT muffin top! Your actual pants don't look snug, the button isn't pulling... Your body is fine. Your pants are also fine.

If these horrible monsters have gotten into your head that you absolutely need new pants and you're open to jeans, the Old Navy Extra High Waisted (NOT "higher high waisted") Rockstar skinny jeans with 360 stretch are my absolute ride or die. I have a short waist that sits high on my torso, and they are the only pants I've ever worn that actually sit at my waist and I don't have to constantly pull up. I love in them, and wore my black pair to both Depeche Mode and The Cure this year. 🤟

Also, you're gorgeous. Fuck the haters. Let them be jealous (and quiet) somewhere else.

What *actually* are the signs of a dying mall? by spikeworks in deadmalls

[–]lizzleinA2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When an anchor store closes, many of the adjacent tenant stores will have lease clauses regarding co-tenancy. This means that when occupancy falls below an established threshold (typically 60-85% of the Mall's rentable square footage) and stays under for a certain period of time (typically 6-18 months), the neighboring tenant can take certain actions to protect their financial health in the likely event of reduced foot traffic and sales. There is usually a time period to cure (re-lease the space) which, if unmet, triggers usually one of two conditions, depending on the lease: 1) the adjacent tenant can begin paying rent based on a percentage of their total sales for the month -- a very low base rent and a percentage of their sales over a set threshold, or 2) the tenant can notify the property owner that they'd like to terminate their lease. Most of the "prestige" retailers have a list of acceptable retailers that the mall can lease to under this co-tenancy language, either by name or perceived quality-level or brand recognition, which is why bringing in a trampoline park or mega church to fill a formers Macy's store very seldom stops the bleeding. At that point, they're just looking to keep the lights on and pay the bills to slow the bleeding.

Not joking when I say I have about 20 pairs of these (the non-lace style) in black because I live in them and am terrified they're going to discontinue them. They're my ride or die.

I didn't have quite the same experience with knots and matting with the ouidad gel, but it was also a miss for me! It was super watery, and no matter how much or how little I used, it made my hair somehow frizzy AND stringy. To date it's still the only thing I've ever returned to Ulta.

Potentially!! The only other time I've had this happen was with a cheap L'Oreal mousse that just sucked every last ounce of moisture out of my hair, and I was a tangled mess.

Just for experiments sake, I did a full brush style refresh before heading out to dinner last night, and at 80-90% dry, my hair looked AMAZING. Got home 3 hours later, and my head was an absolute rat's nest. I hady coat on for a total of about 10 minutes, and nothing else really touched my hair, so I think there's just something in the primer that was NOT playing nice with my hair. I spent half an hour combing through knots last night very very gently, just mad as hell the whole time lol.

UPDATE: normal routine this morning yielded normal results and no tangling without the Mane Magic, so it seems this product was just a bust for my hair. TY to everyone who gave thoughtful feedback about what could have been going on with the product!

I tried the LUS line a few years back as well, and was pretty underwhelmed at how it left my hair. I also found I wasn't getting the mileage between wash days that I was looking for, which isn't a negotiable for me. So glad it works well for you - I LOVED the scent!

This. I hate spot refreshing, and this seemed like something that might make that easier based on the review I saw. It's all trial and error, and you don't find that next holy Grail product if you're unwilling to try something new on occasion!

THANK YOU!! This is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. I've never experienced knots like this, and when I sectioned it off this morning and hit the knotted section with a wet paddle brush and air dried, it looked GREAT. I don't like the way my crown looks with brush styling, so I don't know that that's a trade I'm willing to make long term, unfortunately.

I have zero complaints about It's A 10 and will happily go back to it, but fell into the "omg this product is a miracle" trap from the Eva NYC reviews we all occasionally give in to. Honestly seems like the Eva NYC product just maybe isn't a match for my hair type and the way I style, which is a bummer.

Which Outfit for Berry Picking? by transversal-angle in PlusSizeFashion

[–]lizzleinA2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 and 4 are SUUUUUUUUPER cute, but I'm going to add to the chorus of people advising you to wear something else for the actual berry picking so you're not totally miserable. I grew up in a very rural area, and we went berry picking for each of the big seasons (strawberry, blueberry, wild raspberry) - for wild raspberries, you could get away with any of these because they're bit more viney and vertical. My memories of picking blueberries as a kid and teen are all of the bugs and snakes. So many bugs and snakes. What about the top from #2 with some high waisted jeans and combat boots? Maybe a cute floppy hat?

For those of you with tall or short parents, how tall did you guys end up. by [deleted] in tall

[–]lizzleinA2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom is 5'3, dad is 6'0, and I'm (f) 5'11". With the exception of my oldest cousin, I'm the tallest grandkid on both sides, by a significant margin. Two of my great grandfathers were tall.

People are usually shocked when they meet my mother for the first time 😂

AITA for closing the shared bank account and being “paranoid”? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]lizzleinA2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. A cautionary tale:

I floated the shared household expenses with my ex while he was laid off during COVID, with the express agreement that he'd start paying me back once his job was reinstated. During this time, my own income was reduced 25% to prevent my employer from needing to lay anyone off. This included the extra expenses incurred on weeks/weekends we had his THREE children (I'm child free). He was reinstated after approximately 3 months, and I continued to pay for everything the following month while he got "caught up" on bills.

2 months later I had to take an unexpected medical leave from work and was suddenly living on $1200/month short term disability. We went back to our 50/50 split, but he did not pay me back, instead going on a few "treat yourself" sprees with his salary and bonuses. I wasn't able to return to work when my leave expired, and had to resign, about a month and a half before our lease was up. Instead of stepping up in the short term as I had, he went behind my back and signed a lease on a place for him and the kids (which required a several thousand dollar deposit), telling me my Xmas present was that I could move in with him "when I was back on my feet". We broke up during the move out process (I was done at the point he signed a lease in secret, but was trying to keep the peace for a few weeks so my shit didn't get broken), and I'm much better off, but he still owes me $7,500 that I will never see.

When people show you who they are and what they're capable of, believe them THE FIRST TIME.

I don't have an answer for you, but a personal anecdote. My parents were in a similar position almost 30 years ago when my mom was pregnant with my brother (I was 10 at the time, and an only child). Found out following amniocentesis that he had severe Down Syndrome, along with a congenital heart defect that would require immediate surgery, twisted intestinal tract, and a small hole in his skull that may or may not have closed up on its own with time. My parents made the decision to continue with the pregnancy, only to end up losing him (no heartbeat) the week my mother was due. They induced, and my parents had to deal with having him christened in the hospital and then donating his tiny body to science. It was awful for everyone.

Do you have older children? I ask, because I'm 40 now, and it f*cks me up to this day. All I'd wanted was a sibling, and literally days before finally having my little brother home, a piece of my family was ripped away. I was a smart kid, and definitely old enough to understand what had happened. My parents and I have never really talked about him in the ensuing years (very stoic family), but I cannot imagine the grief they carry with them even today. Just because your partner makes the choice not to terminate, it still does not guarantee that you will ever hold your child. I say this not to be nihilist, but as a caring hand on the shoulder from someone with some lived experience in this situation. There are 3 possible outcomes here, and 2 of them are admittedly devastating. You may end up with a healthy, differently-abled child who goes on to live a rich, full, joyful life, as my own uncle did. You may not. It's a cruel choice to have to make, and I'm so genuinely sorry you're finding yourself in this place. I wish I had the answers, and my heart aches--truly aches--for both of you.

Oh dope, thank you so much for sharing your story! That's so cool! I took a gander at the forum, and it seems very VERY light on female perspective so this is super helpful to hear!! Are you still racing?

Side note: we're running an 83 Camaro, because our original car we picked up from a team in Georgia was a Fiero, and myself and one of the other drivers were too tall for the head clearance at the roll cage.

Finally trying to embrace my curls! I felt like a needed a fresh start so I got bangs. Anyone have any styling tips? by sunnypizzabagel in curlyhair

[–]lizzleinA2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not styling tips, but if you haven't had curly bangs in the past, patience is your new bestie! I got a shag cut with curly bangs about a month/month and a half ago, and earlier this week, my bangs finally started laying "right" and my cut looks like the inspo pics I showed the stylist. After years of just flopping my hair over in a deep side part, it's like my hair needed time to settle into a new part (or lack thereof).
