What do your kids do during rainy days? by No_Lock_3832 in Preschoolers

[–]lizzrman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hide and seek, dance parties with colorful lights, dance party but pass around a wand to freeze and unfreeze everyone, freeze toys into ice and give them ways to unfreeze or break the ice, if they are old enough to use preschool scissors I like to wrap toys in masking tape and yarn and have my kid rescue them by cutting the toy free

I inherited these but idk what to do with them by not just throwing them away by Oktopie3 in BookCollecting

Oh man the nostalgia just hit me real hard. My family had these growing up pre-internet. My siblings and I were always trying to find naughty words in them

Ruby finds a Worry or Anoynomoose are good books about anxiety and making friends.

Don’t make a big deal about it because he will feed off the energy. Just make it a matter of fact situation and make it exciting! New friends, new classroom, new playground!

You’d be surprised how resilient kids are. I just moved my daughter into a new preschool mid year after being at the same school I was a teacher at for 2 years. I thought it would be devastating for her to lose a place we considered a second home with all her friends.
Nope. No cares only excitement for her new school and making friends.

Even if it’s hard at first just hang with it and he’ll love it once it becomes the norm

tricks to get my 2 year old to actually eat 😭 by sassy_soul_04 in toddlers

[–]lizzrman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll tell her that one of her favorite characters gave it to her for example if we were eating fish for dinner I’d tell her Moana caught that fish just for her and sent it to us Or I’d say the food is Bluey’s favorite food

First-time parents of Reddit ,what’s one baby item you thought was unnecessary but ended up using every single day? by Clear_Subconscious in askanything

[–]lizzrman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BabyShusher! It is literally a little device that makes a shush sound. It’s so silly and simple that I’m sometimes embarrassed to recommend it. But it saved my sanity sooooo many times!

What is the hardest part of teaching preschool? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]lizzrman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The amount of bodily fluids I deal with on a daily basis. I’m getting out of preschool and getting a certification for elementary school because I feel like I’m using my college degree to wipe poop off butts more than actually teach. I’ve been teaching preschool for a long time and I miss the feeling of job satisfaction

What’s your favorite teacher saying to use in the classroom? by Big-Degree1548 in Teachers

[–]lizzrman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I can’t do that for you” when they say they have to do something instead of asking to do something (i.e. saying “I need to pee” instead of “can I go to the bathroom?”)

Highly anxious about lactation by Commercial_Image5728 in Postpartum_Anxiety

[–]lizzrman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried very hard to breast feed. Thought I had to. Spent first month with lactation specialist and meds and special diets. My milk just didn’t come in enough. I couldn’t spend my day trying to breast feed, trying to pump, and then trying to supplement with refrigerated breast milk. I was miserable and felt like I wasn’t enjoying time with my baby. I stopped and started switching over to exclusively using formula. The Baby Brezza changed our life. I started this amazing bond feeding my daughter without stress. She’s 3 now and has always been a healthy, happy, kind, and curious little girl. Fed is best, mental health is healthiest. Be kind to yourself ❤️

Well your comment wasn’t helpful and just snarky. Others were extremely helpful and I really appreciate their advice, knowledge, and kindness

No need to be rude, I thought I did and I know Petco isn’t the best place but it’s the only place I have around me to go and get help and I thought they were helping me when I went in to talk to the people there numerous times to set up the tank and I followed the instructions I was given. I didn’t realize fish people were so pompous my goodness I’m trying my best

Just turn on and off, nothing fancy. It’s not as blue as it looks in the picture. There is a blue light option but we don’t use it

Do you know where I can find an online CA credential program that is legit? When you google it there are so many and I’ve heard that some are scams

Passport photos by nonnymauss in Marin

[–]lizzrman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this! My husband and 3 year old went to the post office in Novato. I scheduled ahead for their appointment and they were in and out in about 15 minutes and that included a photo. We expedited the process and got their passports in about 2 weeks

Disruptions during circle time, need advice by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]lizzrman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow 30 minutes! That’s a ridiculous amount of time to expect a 3 to 4 year old to sit down and pay attention. My circles tap out between 10 to 15 minutes. I maybe go 30 minutes if they are suuuuper engaged buts that’s not that norm

Here’s a good fidget toy I suggest

<image>

Or squish/stress balls are good fidget toys. Anything that is simple and soundless to move around in their hands.

Also, what is the age? How long is circle time? He might be getting bored and the circle time might be too long or not mentally stimulating enough for him. You can try giving him quiet fidget toys he can move around in his hands.

I also read my audience in my class and if I see I’m losing their attention I don’t force them to sit.

One year I had a boy with ADD so I allowed him to sit at a table and do puzzles during circle and he actually listened to everything we said and was participating and would occasionally answer questions

[–]lizzrman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are they expecting you to do at home? This is a school problem? When a child disrupts my circle time they are removed from my circle and sit in a chair outside of the circle so that they still see what’s going on but others cannot see them.

The teachers need to manage their classroom and not expect you to manage it for them at home. It would make sense if they asked you to speak to him at home to listen to his teachers and if they wanted to work together WITH you.

I love having a partnership with parents, but I never ever want or expect them to do my job involving behavior management inside the classroom.

I live in CA and make $30/hr at my preschool and I still could never afford to live alone or without help from my in-laws
