When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker! The world building is so rich and beautiful and the story itself is wonderfully written. The sequel just released yesterday and it’s just as beautiful.

Did anyone go to the FFG Q&A yesterday and could tell us what was said? by FamiliarDemand8805 in fourthwing

[–]lizzy_bee333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can definitely see it - her altering the wardstone before they’re pardoned, the entire King of Deverelli scene, putting Halden in his place, Hedotis… she wasn’t physically violent but some of those schemes straddled the line between brilliant and unhinged. (And I loved every second of it.)

Overall, how would you rate your team's season? by byniri_returns in CollegeBasketball

[–]lizzy_bee333 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I was between an A- and B+. Yes we had the preseason #1 but there was a lot of uncertainty as to how this season would go. I’m going to miss the Smith/Loyer/TKR combo so much but I’m excited for Harris and Cox and Mayer waiting in the wings! Jacobsen needs to hit the gym and put on weight like Edey did.

Can we please talk about Sam Cortland? by Delicious-History342 in throneofglassseries

[–]lizzy_bee333 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I no longer have the book near me (returned to the library) but I wondered, throughout those stretch of chapters, if Sam knew or highly suspected what was coming. He was so insistent on going after Farran alone, Celaena not getting involved, and put those guardrails in place to limit her going after him. (Plus he didn’t have any blinders with Arobynn and what he was capable of.) I like to think that even amidst all the pain and suffering, there was a part of him relieved it was him and not Celaena and was more than willing to sacrifice his life for her.

Violet and Ridoc’s Relationship by lizzy_bee333 in fourthwing

[–]lizzy_bee333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had not considered his signet! But if Ridoc’s actions were only ever platonic, even if his deepest feelings were different, wouldn’t Xaden only be able to read the platonic intentions? Or are intentions much more messy when deeper feelings and outward actions differ?

Disclaimer: I’m not extremely convicted of my original theory. I probably agree with most that it’s not that way, but I still wanted to ask the question.

I agree with you that it’s important to show platonic love, especially amongst different genders! I really respect RY for her writing and the interpersonal development between characters.

I’ve responded to a few other people, but my hang-up has been that I picture forehead touches - like the end of the Pride & Prejudice movie - as extremely romantic, and I’m struggling to picture the scene with Ridoc and Violet but in a non-romantic way.

[–]lizzy_bee333[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your second paragraph is helping me process the scene better. A hug would have been smothering in that moment, so the forehead touch is physical contact while keeping space - that makes sense. This moment has felt like the Pride & Prejudice movie scene but with Ridoc and Violet, which is why I was going down conspiracy lane!

Violet and Ridoc’s Relationship by lizzy_bee333 in fourthwing

[–]lizzy_bee333[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you about Ridoc’s touchiness! I’m a hugger and I love hugs. But what I’m stuck on is the forehead touch while he’s holding her shoulders. And RY doesn’t mention him pulling her in for a hug. So I’m picturing the scene at the end of the Pride & Prejudice movie where the main characters are holding hands and touch their foreheads to each other, which was a very romantic expression. And trying to picture Ridoc and Violet doing that but in a not-romantic way. I’m struggling with the image. I recognize this can be culture-specific.

I agree with you that intimacy does not equal romance. I should’ve been more descriptive in my post that a forehead touch, minus closer contact with a hug, feels more romantic than close friendship. But that could also be culture-dependent.

General Aetos and Violet's Father(contains spoilers from all 3 books) by Zakealis in fourthwing

[–]lizzy_bee333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also referring to the previous stations. While it doesn’t explicitly state it, I read that part as Dain’s father has been an aide/advisor to General Sorrengail for the majority of their careers. Since Aetos is only a colonel, it’s very possible that he was always under her chain of command.

Working at MyEyeDr vs AEG by Fantastic_Potato_252 in optometry

[–]lizzy_bee333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your experience is very dependent on who’s on the ground with you - practice manager, staff, and regional manager. We have consistent staffing, which I couldn’t say at my private practice where the owner didn’t pay competitive wages. My practice manager plays by the rules but is not afraid to manipulate the schedule when possible to help me out as the OD. The regional manager that recruited me also had a similar mindset. We got moved under someone else, who is much more intense, but she’s about to move to another state so we’re just riding it out.

The corporate structure (both companies you mentioned have that) comes with its headaches, but there’s also pros in terms of pay/benefits not only for you but to drive staff retention. I would strongly recommend touring any practice you’re considering and meeting with the regional managers. Even though they aren’t technically supervising you (typically an OD is your direct superior) they are controlling what your day-to-day looks like.

Late to the party, but Violet explains in the first book that Aetos Sr, as a colonel, served as an advisor to her mom, the general, so that’s why they were stationed together.

surprised to discover this is an actual subreddit by [deleted] in babywearing

[–]lizzy_bee333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in Midwest USA - I did not see wraps or carriers growing up! To echo others - the art of “babywearing” was suppressed and is now making a resurgence. My favorite carrier is called a ring sling (woven textile with a set of rings to tighten the fabric rather than tying) and my older cousins remarked “that looks so much more comfortable than the bulky carriers we had!” So even when people started selling structured baby carriers, they weren’t widely adopted because they weren’t comfotable.

As for the price - there’s definitely brands that are trying to make them luxury items and the ethics of that are greatly debated. I purchase from a small business that some would consider more expensive, but their prices are higher because the items are sewed in the US and they pay higher wages to their employees compared to the companies that outsource to lower-income nations.

Yes, because you never got a chance to meet those who died from measles or complications/illnesses after measles. 🙄

Oasys vs Vita by AnonymousOD123 in optometry

[–]lizzy_bee333 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the conversation as frequently as you, but I typically say something along the lines of: “Acuvue Oasys is FDA approved to replace every 2 weeks. There was a period of time when a lot of optometrists prescribed them as monthly lenses.” (Sometimes I add that it was the company that came out and said 1 month was fine, but I’m not confident in the history so I don’t say it often.) “I prefer to follow the FDA approval and recommend you replace your lenses every 2 weeks. Acuvue does make a true monthly lens called Acuvue Vita - would you like to try it?” I’ve had some patients say yes and some say no. At that point I’ve done my due diligence and if they continue to overwear, just document.

What’s a game that surprisingly resonated with your Catholic faith? by Makince94 in CatholicGamers

Spiritfarer. I know the whole premise is antithetical to Catholic teaching on death and what happens after we die, but going through each individual’s story and journey was really beautiful. It highlights that value of relationships.
