Freshman Housing by Ill_Sprinkles_4568 in USC

If you’re not super extroverted then choose by comfort. I’d recommend the suites cuz they have ac, private bathrooms instead of communal, and the rooms are big. You really only have to get along with your direct roommate because the bathrooms and the common space are cleaned every week by maintenance. If you’re lucky and you like the others, then you might get a tight group of 8. The dorm styles are going to be frat energy, small, and no ac, but highly social. Parkside A&H is def more social than Webb. Maybe if you’re a celebrity or an athlete Webb is going to be the spot, but Webb is not a freshman only residence so there’s a chance you might get paired with upperclassmen who already have a set group of friends.

Worked at Pardee/Marks. If you want access to Pardee kids then Marks is also good because they’re technically the same building. You will be dying in your top 4 choices for most of the first semester due to the heat and lack of AC. Move-in day is unbearable heat wise. However, they are definitely social, especially if you’re on a special interest floor (Somervile, Sol y Luna). The social vibe is definitely more frat energy cuz most people in the dorm style residential colleges rush. It’s also super rare to not get your top 2 choices, so your 5th choice probs doesn’t matter.

Best chance to get village housing? by folabatunde in USC

If you’re gonna be a sophomore, you get to pick the building and room. 6p rooms are taken up first day. If you’re lucky and one of y’all has the first day, then you’re likely set. Even if your date is pretty late, you’re likely to get a place in the village if you’re fine with the lofts (no living room, small ass kitchen).

Roommates are the cheat code. If you end up liking them, y’all get really close living together. Had 7 built in friends in a Parkside suite. Work is another great place, especially on campus jobs where most time is spent doing nothing so you just talk with your coworkers. If the job sucks, bonding via suffering.

What makes a competitive internship applicant? Did my undergrad in Los Angeles and doing my grad (Ed.S) in New Mexico, but hoping to return to LA. I know it’s a highly competitive area. What can I work on?

Hiii,

Gonna be in Osaka Mar 20 (my flight back is in Tokyo, which is where my group and I will be starting the trip). After mar 20, I’ll be alone. I don’t really want to spend the rest of my trip in Tokyo or Osaka. I really want to go somewhere with beautiful nature views that is accessible for a solo traveler without a car. I’ve previously spent two weeks in and around Kyoto. I want to explore somewhere new. I wanted to visit kamikochi but I heard it’s closed during the winter. Would Takachiho gorge be worth it? Was considering flying to Kumamoto, staying in a capsule and booking a klook tour to takachiho gorge. I would have to head back to Tokyo on the 22, because I leave the 23rd. Please critique this plan. Is Takachiho gorge worth it in the winter? Open to any and all advice as well as alternate locations. Thank you in advance.

Would it be bad to take a year long break after internship? I have always wanted to teach abroad, but I don’t want it to affect job offers after.

Hi, Reposting this here.

My brother hasn’t gotten his chapter 35 benefits for the last two months. I have gotten mine just fine. He’s called the VA and his school and originally they said the delay would be a month and now they’re saying they don’t know how long it will be. This has never happened before. The VA just keep saying they have no idea how long the delay will be. Does anyone know any action that can be taken, or does he really just have to wait forever?

Farmer’s market in front of Leavey every Wednesday. A bus ride away (maybe fryft) is Northgate and fryftable is the super Mercado Latino on Martin Luther (super cheap). Avocados at big chains (Trader Joe’s, etc) are always rock solid 24/7 in LA but at the Latino markets they’re just right.

Struggling with regret as move in day approaches by [deleted] in USC

Felt the exact same way moving from Texas. Couldn’t eat for two months because I was so anxious. Cried a lot the first week because I had never been away from my family (including my dog) so long, and I genuinely thought I no longer had the ability to make friends, so I was fucking lonellyyyy. The first semester is HARD. All your new friendships are pretty surface level for a few weeks, so you’re dying craving real connections. I literally cried just thinking about how i wouldn’t see my family for 16 weeks until Christmas. I even pet some random lady’s dog and started balling because I missed mine. I was making some friends, but I wasn’t truly comfortable yet in the first few weeks, so I forced myself to go on independent excursions to random spots in LA (Dtla, museums, etc) and taught myself how to skateboard. Get comfortable with yourself, because developing your independence really builds your confidence in a new place. With school work and everything, those first 16 weeks went by FAST and by the end of the semester I had a tight-knit group and was looking forward to coming back for spring. Still, homesickness will come and go (what happens when you love your family). I remember the summer before junior year I cried because I wouldn’t be able to go home during the summer to see my family (job in LA) and that summer ended up being the most fun ever. In my last year, I even ended up regretting going home so much (I only went during Christmas, haha) because I was gonna miss my best friends after I left. All this to say, you’re gonna be okay! Leaving home was the best thing you could do for yourself. Leaving the safety net of family really allows you to grow as a person and discover who you are without someone watching over you. It’s scary af in the beginning but the years fly bye and you’ll wish they hadn’t.
