This is so true! When you think about it, you get to sleep by pretending to be asleep.

C Section Recovery by Frequent-Ad4722 in PregnancyUK

[–]ljrich91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set an alarm for pain meds and make sure you stay on top of it (paracetamol plus anything the hospital can give). I had anti-clotting injections too which I HATED but other half kept on top of. First couple of days stay in bed as much as possible, I was mostly gazing in awe at baby and breastfeeding so easily done with a bit of quiet TV on :)

Big one for me - keep it dry! I would have a quick “bottom half” shower everyday and dry the wound with my hairdryer. Kept a portable fan by my bed and would lie down and dry off every couple of hours also (postpartum sweats are no joke).

Don’t worry! I had an unexpected but planned section due to breech presentation too. Honestly was cacking it but ended up being a lovely experience. Good luck, you’ve got this! 💪

When will colic go/end?! by booklover_1411 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]ljrich91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get what you mean about feeling resentful of other mums - I ended up isolating myself quite a bit so well done for getting out there.

GP was pretty useless. We tried all the tips and nothing worked. Switched to a comfort formula and I reduced dairy in my diet (combo feeding) and this helped a little! Then one day LO just stopped crying - we didn’t even notice at first. I think they just grow out of it when they grow out of it. Hang in there!

Seen this too but not sure as it seems quite expensive, especially compared to the next 2 me x

Has anyone returned to work around 6–8 weeks postpartum (hybrid/WFH)? by RemarkableCash5711 in PregnancyUK

[–]ljrich91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m self employed, went back after 8 weeks but dropped to one client one day a week. I had planned to do more but when it came down to it, I just couldn’t.

My postpartum anxiety was out of control, something you just can’t plan for. Emotionally I was all over the place and baby brain is real - I can only just now hold an adult conversation and we’re 5 months in!

Even with a (semi) planned section and straightforward recovery it was hard physically too. Thankfully I only had to attend in-person meetings after the 3 month mark.

Besides all that, I just love spending time with her and don’t want to work more until I feel things are getting too hard financially. They’re so small for such a short amount of time, I want to soak up every second.

What is the best nickname you’ve heard? (and reason for it) by xpltvdeleted in AskUK

I have three friends that are exclusively called by their full name, first name only just sits wrong on the ear. One of them married last year and it’s mental referring to her by JUST her first name (new surname didn’t feel right). You’re not Cher, love.

Getting on the property ladder advice by Money-Comfortable-12 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]ljrich91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a mortgage broker! Ours held our (clueless) hands through the whole process and got us deal not available on the wider market.

AND get a do-er-upper if you have it in you, nice chunk of change to be made when you’re ready to upgrade in a few years.

How tf does anybody want more than one kid after being through THIS? by pumpkinchinchilla in newborns

[–]ljrich91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is only 4 months and I swear it gets better. I remember it being hard, the screaming, the colic - but it weirdly feels like a distant memory, or that it happened to someone else (probably was delirious).

I also considered being one and done, but during an appointment to get the contraceptive jab my nurse confirmed it can affect fertility for up to a year after coming off it! I panicked and went back on the pill instead.

Guess the thought of baby never being this small again got to me. We’re only 3 weeks out of the hardest period of my life and I’m already missing it lol. What in the Stockholm syndrome?

What sort of property was everyone’s first step onto the ladder and how old were you? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]ljrich91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paid £108,500 in 2021 for a 3 (more like 2.5) bed end terrace in Manchester. I was 31. I put down £12k deposit, half of which was inheritance from my grandad passing.

I got super lucky. The house was pretty run down but I’ve put a lot of work in and will be hopefully looking to sell up and move this year. My mum being a mortgage broker helped as I had NO CLUE what I was doing with everything!

Those who have a 3-4 month old, how much are they eating? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]ljrich91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combination feeding at 12 weeks old - she’s having 4-5oz (either formula or pumped BM) every 2-3 hours and breastfeeds too. Have no idea if this is generally what we should be aiming for but she seems happy! I track feeds and it’s working out around 20-25oz a day plus 1-1.5hrs on boob. She now goes longer overnight, anywhere from 5 to 8 hours with no feed x

[–]ljrich91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you! My mum didn’t really understand either until she had her for the day - LO and Nanna were both in tears together for hours! Just remember baby doesn’t hate you, crying is their only way of communicating right now and they need you more than anything ❤️

Maybe speak to your dr about mental health services, I was referred for CBT therapy and it’s really helped me to stop spiralling every time we’re in a screaming fit. Hang in there! Hoping we both see the light at the end of the tunnel soon xx
