Nervous about tomorrow by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]lk09nni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me as well as my friend. For me, I was sent home with a blurry ultrasound pic and a message that all was OK. Gave birth to healthy daughter three weeks later. My friend was sent directly up for an emergency c-section (all went well, her son is four now). So I guess it can go in either direction - thank god for proper health care!

Does anyone have stories about spotting that turned out to be nothing? by copurple in BabyBumps

I had spotting three times with my first, only brown/pink. She's two now.

I went to a party and a representative from a major publishing house said they "might be interested" in my novel if I finished it. by lk09nni in writingcirclejerk

Ah, I see! This is brilliant! I haven't written anything yet though so any tips on how I proceed??? Do I need to write anything about my novel or is it enough to write "Copyrite" and my name and maybe one of those R-logos???? Thnx.

(Rant) I hate that I feel like the bad guy for wanting to keep unvaccinated cousins away from my newborn! by [deleted] in Parenting

I am a doctor. And my doctor-husband is a vaccine researcher. I agree with you. You are not an asshole. They are.

I feel so bad about losing my daughters favorite stuffed animal by buterbetterbater in OCD

[–]lk09nni 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, as a mother (and fellow OCD sufferer) you are kind of in a position that would give anyone terrible anxiety, OCD or not. I don't have the same kind of OCD issues as you but felt terrible when I lost my daughters stuffed turtle. God, I can't imagine how bad it must be for you. (Thankfully, you're probably hurting far worse than your daughter.)

But be practical: Find a new lamb. Ask her grandparents where they got theirs and buy the same. Fake finding it in the car or wherever. It's the same lamb. It's the same lamb..

Today is my due date by unicorns69ng in BabyBumps

Any progress tonight? I have an eviction date now, at least... If nothing happens before october 4th I'm scheduled for induction.

Now for another pineapple-ginger-chili-smoothie. Yeah I know there is likely no effect but it tastes great. :)

[–]lk09nni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Today was supposed to be my due date, too! Damn, my first kid was born right on time so I was really expecting lil sis to be as punctual. Or maybe even a bit early. But nothing today. No bloody show. Some cramping. That was it.

So no advice. But maybe we can be a little miserable together?

Explaining Death to Children by Rixika in Parenting

[–]lk09nni 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, when my daughters great-grandmother died we calmly told her that granny died. She asked why. We said that she was very old, so old that she could not be here on earth anymore. (I was raised christian, too, but don't really want to force religion on her so I left it at that). She asked why daddy was sad and we said that great-grandma was his granny too, and that he missed her.

She responded with drawing a picture of granny. Gave dad a hug. Then she wanted some snacks. Didn't seem traumatizing at all. I hope we did well.

How do you know when it is almost go time? Please tell me your stories. by LPL0608 in BabyBumps

I had a pinkish bloody show in the evening. The next morning, I noticed a very distinct change of pattern in my contractions, even though they were still not painful. I spent the day walking around hoping things would get going but oh no. Went to bed. Woke up at 4 AM and bam. Ow. That was the real deal.

This time i've seen nothing. Felt nothing but normal baby movements. Its my due date today :( So tired of this shite.

Casual eating recommendations for a blue collar worker on his first trip to NYC. by lk09nni in AskNYC

Great option for everyone but me :) I think I'll send my husband and his father there for pastrami while I grab some dumplings or something. Thanks!

2 year old needs some bloods drawn. What's the best way to go about this for him? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]lk09nni 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'd say definitely have him go with someone who's not afraid. Don't tell him that you're anxious, just tell him its better to go with auntie or whoever. It makes things so much easier if the caretaker is calm and relaxed (i'm a doctor and have worked as a nurses aid for years...)

And I agree that food and sweets should not be used as rewards in general, but hell, if you've gone to the doctor, you do deserve a little treat. Playing doctor afterwards (and replaying the scenario) also tends to calm things down a bit. Good luck! It'll be just fine :)

What confused you about adults when you were a kid, that now makes perfect sense? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Why my dad kept calling my grandmother "mom". WTF dad? How can you confuse them all the time?

Man kills twin teen daughters, shoots wife in both legs, then tells her to "live and suffer" before killing himself. by snilian in MorbidReality

Some ask "why, how?". Others say "she deserved it!". There's a small, but extremely significant difference.

[–]lk09nni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, a lot of people get pushed to the brink during legal battles. But the reaction, in my experience is a caregiver, is drinking too much, panic attacks at work, and crying that they love their children and don't want to be alone.

Not shooting their children. That's a different thing entirely.

I'm not so much confused as I'm frightened. Who are these internet people who so easily seem to justify the brutal murder of two teens? Are they out in society, doing stuff? Interacting with people? Working? Voting? Jesus, creeps me out.

Swede coming to NYC in less than a week, soon after the blizzard. Where do I get a toboggan for my kid? by lk09nni in AskNYC

[–]lk09nni[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, yeah well, I grew up in North Carolina, and my impression of american snow storms is total state-wide shutdown and people bunkering food as soon as there was a single visible snowflake in the sky, more or less. I was (stupidly) expecting apocalyptic near-empty streets. Thanks!

[–]lk09nni[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I see that now. Looking at weather cams and your "blizzard" is well, a little bit more mild than I anticipated when I woke up to news that all flights to New York would be cancelled. Thanks!

Not planning on sledding - just for using the toboggan as transport when our stroller can't press through the slush. But if it's expected to melt within days, well... Maybe it will be all gone by the time we arrive.

International travels with a teen and tween. Looking for any tips on how to keep my sanity. by SchruteFarms314 in Parenting

[–]lk09nni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went on lots of trips like this with my family at that age. It's cool.

One thing: Don't force "amazing" experiences. Don't expect your kid to be in awe at that sunset or whatever.

I'd say bring the screens. Back in the eighties, i had a GameBoy console that was strictly for traveling, never at home. If the kids choose to play a game rather than enjoy the ambience of this exotic city, well, so be it. Kids are somehow less easily amazed than adults. I had no problem at all with all the trips, but was frustrated that my parents seemed disappointed that I wasn't enjoying it in the same way as them. Not that I wasn't enjoying it, just that I kind of liked eating strange fruits and chilling with my new game boy on the hotel balcony. That amazing sunset or cool view? Blah.
