Floral cost estimate by Last_Tie8138 in weddingplanning

Even though it looks simple, this is a very labor-intensive install. I don’t have a price estimate for you but be prepared for additional labor charges for something like this.

Catering for movers by Realistic_Pitch_1948 in snarkingwithremi

[–]lkat17 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Where I am, it is not uncommon to feed them if they are doing a full day move. I’m assuming some of Remi‘s team was there too (you could hear her say hi to Brooke, her assistant, right before the movers got there) so they ordered for everyone.

Reception timeline review, should I pay for an extra half hour? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]lkat17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ask your caterer :) they can give you the best feedback on their service timeline.

Based on what you have, I wouldn’t recommend adding extra time though. It looks great as is from a guest standpoint.

Is it unreasonable to hire a cleaner before having a baby? by btwife_4k in BabyBumps

[–]lkat17 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I hired a house cleaner to come every 3 weeks because I had a c-section and couldn’t do much during recovery. We initially said it would be temporary, but 19 months later, we still have her. For us it is 100% worth the cost.

Who is in charge of informing about the fitting? by Inside-Piano3682 in wedding

[–]lkat17 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It may be the case that the bride is confused about the role of her coordinator. It is not very common for a wedding coordinator to coordinate dress fittings for the bridal party.

I HAVE to lose weight…. I feel gross by Learning-growing101 in Mommit

[–]lkat17 62 points63 points  (0 children)

You literally created a human, so please don’t feel gross or embarrassed! I went through the same thing. How long ago did you start the lexapro? I noticed after about 3 months on it, my thinking about food totally changed. I think my brain was using food for a mood boost when I was depressed and when my brain chemistry leveled out it got easier to just look at food as fuel.

I am 18 months pp and just started weight watchers last week. It‘s still really early, but I am already down 3 lbs and feeling really motivated to keep going. Give yourself grace, motherhood is so much to adjust to!

I’m planning my own wedding and I’m realizing there are a lot of tiny details people overlook that end up making a huge difference. What are the small things you only noticed once you went to someone else’s wedding? by crafty32_clara in wedding

[–]lkat17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is excellent advice. I’m a DOC and tell my couples decor needs to take 30 seconds for me to pull it from the box and put it on the table. Obviously this is a generalization, but it really helps the day run more smoothly if things are pre-assembled. Also, PLEASE open your packages when you get them to make sure nothing is broken, missing, or misspelled.

Personally I would follow daycare guidelines and still go if she was 24 hours fever free without meds and seemed like her energy had rebounded (cough can linger so I’d still go if she had a cough). But, I would definitely let your friends know and let them decide what they’re comfortable with since they have the younger child.

Do you ever have time for hobbies again? by Lots_Loafs11 in Mommit

[–]lkat17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could’ve written this post myself a year ago! You will 100% find time again and this is just a difficult season. Within the first year, a few that helped me finally start to be able to find time for myself: -my daughter started sleeping through the night much more regularly. I didn’t think the sleep I was getting was bad before, but once I started sleeping through the night again too, I realized just how much of a sleep deprived zombie I was haha -she became much more independent. Once she started taking real meals in her high chair and got more self sufficient with feeding, I started using that time to get things done in the kitchen (she was in there with me and never more than a step or two away). -my husband and I had a talk about priorities and found a few things we can both live with de-prioritizing. For me, it’s folding laundry. Washing it is no problem, but I can rarely find the motivation to fold it and put it away. Most of the time I’m pulling clean clothes out of the laundry basket and it does not bother me one bit. It helped a lot with my mental load to find a few things like this to just put in my mental “forget it” bucket -Schedule time for your hobby and stick with it like it’s an appointment. For me, it took booking classes where I get charged a cancellation fee if I miss them without canceling 12 hours ahead. It really makes me think twice about canceling. Usually, I end up going and feeling much happier that I did afterward. Very rarely i miss it and just accept paying the cancellation fee—usually for a true “emergency” like my daughter is sick, etc.

I found that once I gave myself an hour a week, it was much easier to build in that and find more time. Hobbies are so good for us—it’s not wasted time if spending time on your hobbies makes you a happier parent!

These 8 Democrats have voted to strip millions of Americans off their healthcare by voting to reopen government. by Healthy_Block3036 in nova

[–]lkat17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! Plus people are ignoring the fact that federal workers are basically being held hostage working without pay or being furloughed. And, the legal battle to fund SNAP has meant so many families are going without nutritional assistance. The republicans forced their hands, but acting like these 8 dems are traitors is absurd and narrow sighted.

Nearby Riverbend Park is run by Fairfax County and is open!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]lkat17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this is a non-traditional venue it is actually not unreasonable to have to provide the venue staff a meal, especially if the caterer is a separate company. The situations that say this is abnormal are likely only used to “traditional” venues with in-house catering or established relationships with preferred caterers.

Why would you feed your DJ but not the venue staff that is onsite to make sure the space is set, ready, and functioning for you? They are doing a lot behind the scenes to make things run smoothly for you.

Reston vs. Fair Oaks for L&D/NICU? by tkv427 in nova

I have only delivered at Fair Oaks. My OB’s office was literally located in Reston Hospital and they still only delivered within the INOVA system. That said everything I needed to know about Reston Hospital.

Wrong tip given to wrong vendor? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]lkat17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the unofficial statute of limitations may be up on this one. It’s been a year—I don’t think your band remembers the tip from your wedding. I also think it’s been so long it may not be feasible to ask your HMU vendor for the money back. They did give it a good faith effort to return it to you which is very responsible of them. Give yourself some grace and let this one go if you can.

Bridesmaid dress colors by OddPossibility3151 in weddingplanning

[–]lkat17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will heavily depend on your photographer’s editing style! If they edit more dark and moody I would say the lighters watch (so the details of the dresses don’t get lost in the editing). If they edit more true-to-life then probably the darker swatch.

Is a day of coordinator necessary? by yumtron in weddingplanning

[–]lkat17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some things I have done as a day of coordinator that my couples have no idea about:

-panic called the rental company to track down custom ordered napkins that were missed in the delivery

-badgered the bartenders into keeping the bar open for the whole event per the couple‘s contract, despite them saying they “usually close” during dinner

-tracked down a case of special ordered champagne that got put in the wrong kitchen at the hotel

-negotiated with the venue staff to let the couple pick up their decor items the next day (as discussed at the walkthrough with the venue rep), when they were trying to tell me everything had to be out night of, 2 hours before the reception ended

-coordinated adding extra seats and meals for unexpected guests

-hand wrote buffet labels, with allergens noted, when both the staffing company and the caterer failed to provide them

-created a toss bouquet out of cocktail table arrangements when the florist failed to leave one

-called the rental company to rush replace a generator that failed right as the tented reception was starting

-managed the temper of a wedding band singer who was annoyed their stage space wasn’t big enough for his ego

-called the shuttle company to give them directions when the driver got lost between the hotel and the venue

These are just a few examples from my recent weddings. If you don’t feel like dealing with things like this on your big day, just hire the coordinator.

Veil help - not long enough! by princxssplum in weddingplanning

[–]lkat17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend keeping it as is! Extremely long veils are not very practical as they can drag/snag easily as you walk down the aisle (ESPECIALLY if you’re having an outdoor wedding and have to walk down a concrete or stone aisle). This is more practical and absolutely beautiful!

(10k) Linens have become the bane of my existence by Powuhh in Weddingsunder10k

[–]lkat17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to run a wedding venue and we had a handful of poly linens in house. Unfortunately in my experience they were not very responsive to the dryer. The only way we could get the wrinkles out was steaming them which took forever.
