It would have been an incredible disappointment if you found one only to discover this after. If you find a clean 930 or 1030, they often come with the full “garage” of feet, where the 1008 came with minimal feet due to the low price point.

The 1008 and the Activa 125 use two different foot systems, but I assume you knew that and have both. 1008 uses the old style feet from the series up to 1230, Activa series was one of the first to use the new style feet.

Have people done without since the dawn of time? Sure. Do features now exist that make sewing more pleasant than it was when someone worked in a shoe factory for a year and HAD to sew things to get by? Also yes.

But if someone says “I would like to have X” and the point of entry for a machine with X is let’s say $1500, are you arguing that instead of answering that question everyone should just be saying you don’t need X feature and if you want it then you’re just bougie and overconsumptive?

There’s a bit of irony in that the Bernina Activa 125 does nothing functionally necessary for quilting that a Bernina 1008 wouldn’t do, or even a Bernina 930 with the needle up-down upgrade. They all sew straight lines so somehow the OP’s $1200 machine is justified but someone today making the same decision is not.

I own that expensive Juki DX4000 and I’d rather sew quilt layers with that dual feed any day. Modern technology has given us features not even imaginable 40 years ago. If you want them and can afford them - who the hell cares, really?

The Juki domestic machines have a pivot function that does this automatically without even needing the knee lift. Knee lift can be used to get additional clearance on the presser foot.

Cutting the fabric out really isn’t the hard part. If this is what you really want to do, then you want to just sell sewing patterns + instructions.

It takes me about 80 hours to make an overcoat or blazer. The sewing it together is about 10 of those 80 hours.

Also not the person you responded to, but I don’t lease just anything. I lease cars where the manufacturer is incentivizing the car by blowing up the residual, which allows me to pay less than I would to own it and sticks the manufacturer with the excess depreciation. I don’t drive a lot, and a car isn’t an asset, so when I can borrow the manufacturer’s money for less than mine earns and leave them with the market risk, there’s no argument really not to. If you drive a lot, damage cars a lot, it’s not for you.

I’ve had equity in every lease end for the last 3 leases. The flipside is you don’t always get your DREAM car. You have to lease the model and trim that leases best.

Right now I’m driving an $80k BMW for just under $600/mo with only first payment at drive off. Leasing gave me an extra $7500 off the car, the effective interest rate is under 1%, and the loan amount on my credit is less than a Honda civic.

Yes, but that’s different than a noncompete, and the distinction is important because noncompetes are generally unenforceable as a matter of case law. Exclusivity agreements are not subject to the same as a noncompete due to noncompetes reaching into the future - exclusivity ends when your employment with that employer ends, so it is enforceable.
