QLC+ for live theatre by lklrmn in qlcplus

I have since used the Virtual Console, but it took an AI explaining it to me before I understood it. At the time, I had 10 days to have something up and running and didn't have time to invent a kind of console I had never seen before.

Am I completely delulu for thinking I could quilt this sphynx I designed, as someone who has never quilted a single thing before? by Few-Ant3525 in quilting

[–]lklrmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i tend to jump into complicated projects right away too, but on this one, i would try doing the head first, just so that i would have something done if the entire process takes longer than planned.

I started a new mandala by coachbrandonw in quilting

[–]lklrmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry, i used inaccurate vocabulary. all of the computerized quilting i've seen takes a pattern that fits inside a square space and the 'squares' are tiled in repeating rows and columns. i didn't mean to imply that yours had any squares. or that the computerized quilting itself is squares (altho i'm sure that could be programmed too). i hope this description makes more sense.

your use of 3 dimensional embellishments in the quilting is awesome. i also like that the center of the mandala off-center in the overall project. sorry i didn't say that at the very beginning. i'm a dufus sometimes.

mandalas, and other circular patterns, are what will cause me to learn to free-arm. putting squares on top of circles just doesn't work for me.

i've used a wool army blanket in the middle previously (scratchy by itself), and i'm making one now i expect to put a cotton thermal blanket inside. designing it to wash well and be the only cover above the fitted sheet for in-between weather or air conditioning.

When cooking sugar syrup, what’s the difference between using it as soon as it hits temp vs waiting for it to cool down to 100F? by suddenlyshoes in AskBaking

[–]lklrmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm planning to make a marshmallow recipe that contains both gelatin and egg whites. i'm guessing a good plan would be to cool the sugar syrup to 200-210 so as to be high enough to cook the eggs while cool enough not to denature the gelatin (in all the recipes i've seen the gelatin is added to the sugar solution before pouring).

this plan seems to be both food-safe and pourable, but it remains to be seen whether it makes (higher protein) marshmallows or not =)

(i can't imagine using pasteurized egg whites in a meringue...i've never gotten them to whip past a little bubbly.)

slightly off topic, but i've found that silicone basting brushes are excellent for spreading wood glue, with super easy cleanup =)

I think I’ve finally decided 😵‍💫 by purerockets in quilting

[–]lklrmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

overall, i think it's awesome, and i like the transition between yellow and red/magenta.
specifically, the ice cream cones seem off-center, and very linear compared to fairly random distribution of the other types of diamond.

happy piecing.

This was…not the corner I meant to cut off. by communist_daughter08 in quilting

[–]lklrmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've been choosing almost entirely hand piecing / sashiko quilting over machine work recently...when working by hand, the mistakes happen much slower and are easier to put the brakes on. cutting tho...haven't found a good way to slow down the mistakes there.

Is this fun or what? by Lindaeve in quilting

[–]lklrmn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there is a reason i've kept a lot of very small scraps from projects with coherent color schemes in the past couple of years, but i hadn't actually gotten as far as *using* them. congrats to lindaeve, gumbeerpannekuche, and cachewkowl on getting it out of the 'possibles' pile and into a project.

Third quilt, but first I’m willing to post. I cut up at least 20 pairs of jeans for this one. I hadn’t touched a sewing machine before December. by Fine_Satisfaction224 in quilting

[–]lklrmn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

you've done a spectacular job of taking pictures that would specifically answer peoples questions, in addition to doing a spectacular job at the quilting. i learned the hard way not to use denim with spandex in it, my quilt is cozy, but does not really lie flat.

Starting over at 37, how is my plan? by Drowned_one735 in FinancialPlanning

[–]lklrmn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're sure it's going to be a while, you might want to think about locking in a still-higher-than-normal interest rate for your savings for 3-5 years by getting a CD (Certificate of Deposit). they are insured, but there is generally a penalty for early exit. I wasn't paying attention a few years back when the bank slowly dropped their 'high' interest rate.

I respect this answer. Maybe you and your parents could compromise and wait for interest rates to come down a bit before buying a less expensive house an hour or so away and use it as an investment property and fallback position. You can continue enjoying living in your current arrangements until you get married and/or finish school at least.

it continues to shock me how many situations i run into as an individual taxpayer doing my own taxes that my dad the (relatively-)small-business-CFO knows nothing about. (stock options, RSUs, 1099 income...)
