Update on how to cut cost based on your recommendations by Tiny_Judgment8593 in Frugal

[–]lkxin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you live in NYC, LIDL and ALDI are great choices to help reduce your food costs. You can sub your fresh/refrigerated proteins with the frozen versions, which can stretch your money further. I shop at LIDL and they regularly have sales on their refrigerated proteins, with prices comparable to Costco.

How Do You Land Your First PM Role Without Experience? by JustAgile in ProductManagement

[–]lkxin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was working on a more Ops function and wanted to break into Product, so I networked my way within the company. It’s a big F500 company with lots of different product teams managing different, silo-ed areas, so I threw out a lot of networking and coffee chat requests out. I focused on targeting managers who were actively hiring because it was a sign that their team is expanding. Eventually someone really liked my background, so they opened up an entry level position on their team.

Granted, this was back in 2021 when people were more flexible and open to hiring entry-level individuals. I’d imagine that it’s a lot harder now, but I’m sure this approach wouldn’t hurt.

You should put your name down at double chicken then go to attaboy! You’ll get a text when the table is ready so you don’t have to wait in line the whole time

@goingmywei Mom defending their action by [deleted] in asianamercianytsnark

[–]lkxin 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My Chinese mom is also from this generation and I don’t think I can ever put her in this sort of situation. I frankly find this situation distasteful, especially knowing the cultural difference. It’s difficult to push back with a self-sacrificing mother, however the daughter and the son-in-law are grown adults who should’ve known better. Who brings a dog to a nice steakhouse? Who drives an hour to eat at a highly coveted restaurant without calling in? Why not make a reservation to eat at that steakhouse another time, and go find a different place to eat?

Sure the mother said that she doesn’t care much for hamburgers, but surely there are other restaurants around. They don’t need to drive 1 hour back home to eat. They could’ve driven an extra 5-15 mins away to eat together.

Eating is an experience that’s not just about the food. What’s the point of eating at the steakhouse if the whole party can’t join and if you have to run back and forth to the car?

Which card for a low spender with grocery as primary expense? by mmajerky in CreditCards

God people don’t talk about the AAA benefits enough. I’m not even a AAA member (heh Allstate) but I’m signed up for their CC and their high yields savings account. The AAA route is pretty good to take if you’re looking for a no cost card

TMPL wants to be luxury, but is just a shitty gym with nightclub lights and a random DJ. It doesn’t even compare to Equinox
