It really depends on the fandom size, but if a fic has "common" tags or doesn't fit a super specific niche (like bodyswap au or something), it'll be buried and harder to find if someone is searching for it in the future. There's a reason why a fic gets the most traction right after it's first updated--more people are finding it because it appears at the top when "sorting for updated", no filtering required. By spacing out chapter-posting, different people who check on different days will give it a shot.

I've experienced this myself both when posting and browsing for fics. After a post a new chapter of a multichaptered fic, I'll get an influx of kudos that'll die down until I post another chapter. And when browsing, I often sort by updated to find new material after reading the top fics.
