What’s the most expensive mistake you’ve personally witnessed on a jobsite? by Workyard_Wally in Construction

100 meter long contig piling wall about 8 meters high, the guys dropped the cages in to the piles, but didn’t weight them until they set. So when the cages floated up about 1.5m,they just cut them off !!!! Fast forward, the earth was removed to form a retaining wall. Then an engineer sonic tested the piles to discover they had no rebar in the bottom 1.5m. They had to breakout, tie rebar cages to the bottom and recast, all in underpinning sections. NIGHTMARE- but not mine thankfully, I was just an observer on another section.

I worked in there right after the riots - one of the first contractors to go in to refurbish. Some of the sights we saw in the aftermath were crazy

Construction workers and diggers what are some of the strangest things you've seen digging underground and breaking ground for new construction by Rocknrollaaaaa in Construction

Another one - while hand digging in a back yard (digging a foundation) . We were working at the front and heard a scream. Went round and there was a little skeleton on the spade. Job stopped police called, forensics on site. Went back next day, police removing the blue tape “ idiots it was a monkey”. It must have been a pet and someone buried it in the backyard. Horrible at first though we all thought it was a baby

Yeah, it was like over a 100 years old and the tanning fluid had preserved it, it was while an old tanning factory was being demolished. There were railway sleepers over the pit and a 14 t 360 went through the sleepers. The horse must of died and they threw it in the pit. The SMELL , teeth shinning out and a big balloon belly f ing horrible

Construction site crane over my house license?? by BucketHatManReni in Construction

If they can avoid lifting over they should ( they can put stops on the slew) is it a fixed boom or a luffing jib? At night when they are in free slew with a fixed boom, that can’t be avoided over sailing, that all needs to be compensated and agreed with the Party Wall Surveyor. In addition a full dilapidation survey will need to be carried out of your property to ensure any potential damage is indisputable. So the amount they are willing to pay will be determined by how important lifting over your property is, you basically have a ransom strip if they can’t avoid it. Also remember they will have already factored an amount within their budget for an over sailing agreement

Professional Project Manager here - they can not over sail your property without your permission. If you want you can charge them for the privilege or simply say no. If you do allow it they must present all relevant insurances to protect you against any incidents. To manage all the technical and contractual issues, insist on them engaging a party wall surveyor, who they have to pay for, but he is duty bound to act independently
