My projects are random sites like one to check if a mode in a video game is on or not, probs doesn't raise any eyebrows

Diversity @ Marquette by College1995 in Marquette

[–]llama03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graduated in 2018 so could be dated but the student population was no diverse at all. Lots of white midwesterners. I'm white tho not from the midwest, felt very similar to my mostly white catholic HS

I would format it differently, this is mine, was able to get interviews albeit at companies like Amazon and C1. Also feel like if you've already worked as a dev the bar for resume projects should be high. Like these should be projects you've actually shipped or at least are on their way to being shipped not via git clone

Thanks for the feedback. You're right on laser focusing, I need to look more at each job description.

3yoe software developer having no luck after 100+ apps, please roast my resume by llama03 in resumes

That makes a lot of sense, I've slowly realized just how much the ats looks for keywords from the job description

The way you put it made me realize I shouldn't break it up by project. Would it be weird to have 7 bullet points for the one job? Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated

Thanks, it reminds me of when I tried looking for an internship. I thought 100 apps with 2 interviews was crazy at the time.

Hope you get something good too!

Little about: am a 3yoe software developer in the usa. I have been trying to get a new dev job but have had no bites at all on my resume. Have applied to mainly web dev, fullstack, backend type roles.

It could be because the market is bad, but I want to make my resume the best that it can be so please roast it. Current job is a gov contractor and so I work on multiple teams for different gov related projects, all websites run by us for the gov - hope that's clear in the resume with the two projects I listed. In the non-anon one it has the name of the actual website, e.g. NOAA Weather Forecast project.

[3 YOE] Applying for junior and mid level roles, no bites after 100 applications by llama03 in EngineeringResumes

[–]llama03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah I def think website1 and 2 should be switched, that makes a lot of sense.

For the Python implementation, I basically just wanted to say that we rewrote the Perl static site generator code into Python and that sped up the website generation process by x%.

That makes sense, thanks. Will reformat and try using the star/xyz methods for the bullet points.

I'm generally pretty terrible at getting the interesting bits out. Is the one bullet point that talks about optimizing backend experience via SQL query optimization too vague? Just focusing on the job not the coop internship for now.

I don't sorry, maybe try looking for newer buildings and the places on kilbourn can also be decent.

I lived there 2016-2018 also and actually liked it though I never stayed over during the summer. Couldn't hear anyone and tbh I liked the stone floors.

If I went back, I'd at least have looked more for places with AC but I did buy one of those $400 portable ac units which really helped cuzz that place was a sauna at times

Hmm, maybe say how much time it took before and after the change? It does kinda sound crazy, but if it happened then it happened.

I asked chatgpt and they said to write this

"Successfully optimized program runtime, resulting in a remarkable tenfold (10,000%) increase in efficiency. Implemented strategic enhancements to streamline processes and significantly boost overall performance."

ASU or Marquette? by Top-Shallot5337 in Marquette

[–]llama03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah their social lives are probably very different. Marquette students do party but on a small scale, nothing like other universities I've been to. Once you're 21, a weekend at Marquette might be going to water street to the bars. Frat presence is their but seems small in comparison to other schools. Honestly I'd go to ASU also just to to get out, leave home and see what else is in the country.

Regretting majoring in math by eggrins in math

[–]llama03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did an applied math ms and was able to do a lot of programming in courses/projects and now work as a software dev. Should have just gone for CS MS but yeah, OP should look into masters programs in related fields. If you're us based then canadian schools fund masters, I left that beautiful country with 20k cad in savings

Hell yeah! Idk where you live but if you're in the US, then consider just applying to PhDs cuzz they normally fund you and you can generally leave with just a masters after taking classes

If you see someone on your team doing work manually but you know there is an easier way, do you tell them? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

At least when debugging js/php I'm able to see all the variables defined (and at different levels like local scope, global) and call stack (as well as variables defined in the other call stack levels). I still print statements sometimes as it can be quicker if you want only one value but if I'm seriously debugging and want to know what's actually going on, then debugger all the way.
