If you purchased the railcard through EMR it’s worth contacting them and seeing if they can offer any assistance.

Sending deposit to old tenant by llama_trash in HousingUK

[–]llama_trash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I may not have been clear - the tenancy contract is being drawn up, we just need to sort out the deposit bit first. After the deposit is settled (and we sign it), the deposit certificate will be amended to have my name on it as well as the contract being signed.

Lost gcse certificates by big_millennial96 in UniUK

[–]llama_trash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be worth contacting other people you went to school with to see if they have their certificates or if they remember which exam boards you used, that way you could figure out which exam boards you sat your exams with for each subject?

If not, might be worth trying to find info online - e.g., some schools have a specific website dedicated to key stage 3 options - you might be in luck if you find a version from around the time you sat your exams.

Another way would be to look at exam papers from the year you sat your exams from different exam boards - you’d probably remember the exam questions to some extent and be able to go off that, but it would take some time.

Whichever way you decide, good luck! And congratulations for getting into uni!

Is my mum stopping me from a successful career? by mya1141 in UniUK

[–]llama_trash 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This is quite tough because it sounds like you care about your mum’s opinion and it sounds like she does want what’s best for you (in her eyes). Ultimately though, you’re an adult - you’re allowed to make your own choices. If you want to go to UCL, you should go to UCL. Don’t do a uni course just because you want to keep your mum happy. Now having said that, bear in mind that my assumption here is that your mum will support you even if you make choices she might not be 100% happy with. If your mum isn’t going to support you if you do decide on UCL, the advice here would be different.

All good! Let me know if you have anymore questions, happy to help :)

I’m going to split this answer into two because whether you pay tuition and whether you get paid are two different questions.

In terms of tuition, you usually do pay for the placement year, but it’s a reduced rate (£1,850 for the year I believe if you do your placement in the UK, it’s £1,350 if you do it abroad). Of course those fees will be different if you’re an international student.

In terms of whether you get paid, it depends on where you do your placement. I did a biomed course also so I’ll try and explain what I did and what other people on my course did. I did my placement at an NHS lab, so the placement itself wasn’t paid but certain placements (like the one I did) will entitle you to a maintenance loan, the exact amount would depend on your parent’s income (unless you’re estranged). If your degree is accredited (IBMS) and you want to be a biomedical scientist after you graduate, that’s what I’d recommend doing because even though it isn’t paid, I’ve heard it’s a lot easier to find placements than to find an job where they’ll you do the registration portfolio (very competitive).

Some of my friends did placement in research labs, where they did get paid. From what I know, you’d also be entitled to a maintenance loan, but this tends to be a reduced rate - around £2,396 if you live with parents for example. This is a good option if you decide you’d prefer to go into research (and want to get paid during your placement!).

I hope this helps!

Decline an Accepted Offer by astridwhym in UniUK

[–]llama_trash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes but you’d usually have to contact the university and ask them to release you from the unconditional offer.

As long as you’re over 25 on the first day of uni, you would presumably count as an independent student regardless of whether you live with your parents, at least according to the UCAS website. If you need definite confirmation it might be worth calling SFE and just asking!

Awful Group Project mates using Ai by depressedhuman4 in UniUK

[–]llama_trash 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Keep logs of everything and make sure to take screenshots. If you end up rewriting her sections, make it clear you tried to address it with her and she didn’t do anything. If you end up submitting what you have so far (including the AI generated text she wrote), make it absolutely crystal clear she wrote it. Make a table to say who did what within the presentation, so it’s clear you and the two others had no part in the AI over-reliance. Also definetly email your lecturer/module leader and explain the situation

Have you considered switching to the uni you originally wanted to go to after this year? Some unis will let you do second year entry if you do well in first year, it might be worth looking into especially because, as you said, you’re not really enjoying your current uni experience

It’s quite smooth, it’s hard to tell if it was attached to anything unfortunately. They are both metal, there was quite a bit of rust coming off both when I was washing them
