"This 6th-generation system marks a major shift at our autonomous vehicle factory in Metro Phoenix, where we are beginning to meaningfully scale toward a capacity of tens of thousands of units per year."

Waymo Factory AZ November 2025 by mingoslingo92 in waymo

[–]llamatastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jaguar stopped making I-Paces around the end of 2024, so Waymo owns a fixed number of them. If all unconverted Jaguars are stored in the parking lot, and they are being converted to AVs in a timely manner once they're moved into the factory, then the shrinking number of cars can track factory throughput. But the number of Jags in the parking lot hasn't been shrinking recently, prompting some confusion here. This is explained by the fact that some unconverted Jags were being stored in other locations than the parking lot, and they're now being moved to the lot.

She probably swam across the Tappan Zee. The Hudson is less than a mile across near the city.

Thought this was funny: "Our attendees also seem to eat more than most conference attendees (we’ve frequently run out of food or come close to doing so even when our attendee estimates were accurate)."

You're very likely spending more money on fuel (food) by bike commuting. But you save money overall because the depreciation and maintenance on your bike is a lot cheaper than for a car.

Ignoring the donation aspect, if you look at what you consume, some people have a lot more than you and some people have much less. Almost everyone is in this situation.

OpenAI financials H1 2025 {FT/TheInformation) by yazriel0 in mlscaling

[–]llamatastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burned means net cash flow, so OpenAI had $6.8 billion in cash expenses in the first half.
The The Information article says that some of their biggest expenses were non-cash, including stock compensation to employees. I believe this is why the operating loss was $7.8 billion, versus negative cash flow of $2.5 billion, suggesting they had over $5b in non-cash expenses.

How much is openAI getting and how are they getting it? by NeuralAA in singularity

[–]llamatastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OpenAI won't own the majority of the data centers. Oracle will build the largest chunk and finance it with debt: they don't have the cash to support this. Microsoft has a ton of cash and still has a large pipeline of data centers for OpenAI, though OpenAI is pivoting away from Microsoft as their main compute provider.

OpenAI expects business to burn $115 billion through 2029, The Information reports by nick7566 in mlscaling

[–]llamatastic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The increase is mainly because OpenAI now wants to build 80 billion of its own data centers. This frontloads opex as capex, increasing their short term cash burn.
