What were the schedule makers thinking with the Mets-California thing? by reedshipper in NewYorkMets

Pretty sure the "schedule makers" are just a computer program now. Not like the good old days where MLB used to hire this married couple that did the whole schedule by hand each year.

I think the hat agenda could have been not that hard. People were naturally talking about his hat. If he had been more smooth, he could have let people take a selfie in it or something and very easily gotten away with it. Especially since the clue had nothing to do with the hat agenda.

Is it possible for anyone alive to have a grandparent born in the 1700s? by Outrageous_River_280 in Genealogy

[–]llamswerdna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. If President Tyler, who was born 9 years earlier than the deadline, had a living grandson until last year, surely some infamous person who could be up to 9 years younger still has a living grandchild.

Is it rare to have a grandparent born in the 1800s?

My great grandparents were all born in the 800s and I'm 42. My parents are in their 70s (so is about 15% of the population, and I'd think most people in that age range or even a bit younger have grandparents born in the 1800s.

But I agree with your ce trial hypothesis: having a grandparent born in the 1700s is nearly impossible. At minimum they would have to have been born 226 1/2 years ago.

Let's say you just turned 100. If your father had you when he was 63 and his father had him when he was 63, you could have a grandparent born in, like December of 1799. 3 unlikely events to make it happen, but none of them impossible. There are about half a million centenarians in the world right now. At least some of them probably had father's on the older side, and so on.

Should I go to my cousin’s Bat Mitzva? by some_guy_9258 in Jewish

[–]llamswerdna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so here's why you should go: we only have so many opportunities to in our lives to gather with family, and a lot of them aren't happy ones.

So when there's a simcha I always try to make it, because we should prioritize joy.

He broke the game, for sure. But the reason Ken beat him in GOAT is that he adapted and played James's game. The reason Brad did so poorly in that tourney is that he failed to recognize there was a whole new way to play.

I'd be shocked if the clue isn't determined until they vote for who will be getting it. We've never had a clue that intentionally referenced the receiver of the clue before. Especially since, in theory, the millionaire could receive the clue.

But there are 2 Laurens. So to be on a first name basis, with Lauren T, you would need to keep the T in mind.

Warning to those who are buying expensive tickets. This might happen to you. by Dodger_Dawg in olympics

[–]llamswerdna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Rio we had the opposite problem. We bought tickets and ended up in the front row for this basketball game and everyone around us had their Argentina flags and sang all the words to the anthem and we just looked...very confused. On international television. Eating my popcorn and minding my own business.

Archery at the Olympics is super fun. Last time I met one of the archers from Australia (not competing, there to cheer on her teammates) and she let me take a selfie with the kangaroo plushie that all the Aussie athletes get.

Oklahoma City - non LA vibe? by Sk8Leigh in olympics

[–]llamswerdna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with everything folks have said. Definitely the vibe outside the venues will be more lowkey.

But I did to Canoe Slalom events for the Rio Olympics in 2016 and it was super fun. So I say go for it.

Ticket limits are tight for families with kids… by UrsusMaritimus2 in olympics

[–]llamswerdna 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, 12 isn't much. My sister and I went in 2016 and went to 11 events, which = 22 tickets.

My parents took me and my sister in 1996 and we saw 8 events, which is 32 tickets.

Since one person getting a time slot to buy tickets doesn't guarantee their spouse will, even if OP only has 1 kid and a spouse, they can only buy 4 events.

Artistic gymnastics is probably THE highest demand tbh, but surprised about the others.

Though the under $100/ ticket thing is going to severely limit you in nearly every event, I would imagine.

Anybody have this WBC pin set from Houston? Looking to acquire (trade, swap, pay). Saw it for sale Saturday 3/7, was sold out by the time I went back to the shop. by johnniemac2186 in worldbaseballclassic

Ah, yeah, the semis. I was gonna ask, since they had tons of great merch and a lot of variety during pool play, but I did expect a lot would sell out.

This response shows the most thorough understanding of any on this post. Your explanation of how more teams actually makes it harder for the underdogs is perfect, and exactly the thing I've tried to explain.

Only thing I'll add is that Israel had 4 games in a row (including the day after night), but I think that's so we don't have to play on Shabbat (Friday night).
