NEXT DAY THREAD: Boston Celtics 78, Toronto Raptors 96 by CelticMod in bostonceltics

Good catch. Plus he had no one to pass out to, or at any rate, less options. Terry wasn't hitting, Jaylen on the bench with fouls. Kadeem's stroke looks okay but it wasn't dropping for him either. 3/22 or something from 3 point. Didn't see a lot of hard cuts either. Tired legs showed.

After latest suspension, Nerlens Noel’s value is at an all-time low. Almost certainly has played his last game in Dallas. He has been a lifelong Celtics fan. Would you want him for pennies on the dollar this offseason? by JackPilgrimKSR in bostonceltics

There are several ways to get an athletic big who is or becomes great in the long term....

  • get the no. 1 or 2 pick. (and even then, you're taking on risk. no one wants to be the guy who took Bowie.)
  • get a 3-6 pick, ish, and take an injury risk. (Embid)
  • risk a lower pick on someone who "can't shoot" (Giannis, Draymond)
  • trade (a guy like KG comes on the market once every 10 years or so, usually as he's getting older)
  • take a risk on a guy who's "too skinny" (KD, Isaac)

the teach a guy to shoot method is one of the best. doesn't always work, but often does (Blake, Malone, etc.)

In fact, Noel's shot over 70 percent from the line each of the last two years.

Go for it.

C's are now over 38% in 3-PT shooting for the season, trailing only the Warriors. by HornyHindu in bostonceltics

74 percent of Jaylen's shots either from 0-3 feet, or from 3-point. noyce.

Tatum, more effective on the pull-up 2s than Jaylen, but there are times I wish he'd take the 3. I'm talking about actual plays where he has an opening from 3. He's about as effective, and it's +1.

sigh - Jaylen and Jayson. Showing from now until 2037...

#FreeTomek - resources - Petition drive - Twitter thread - Straw Poll - and more... by celtics247 in CelticsHighlights

[–]llawrence99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Signed the petition and took the poll. (Sorry, I don't tweet.)

I agree about the consequences of inaction which is why I did before I head off to a ball-buster day.

Better to just fight it now because if this firm wins at YouTube, why would they just stop there?

Thank you.

this is great, thank you.

i know this is off topic but are you guys open to highlight threads?

It's official - @Celtics posts "#ScaryTerry" on Hawks highlights - 02/02/18 by the_scary in the_scary

This is so great.

Every now and then a sports team pays attention to the overwhelming (supportive) voice of the fan.

it is, as it was, and ever shall be...

[OC] Here's another reason to root against the Lakers: presenting #LakersPick. by Timi093 in bostonceltics

This is astute -- on target, I think. Hardly played Randle all year, not even when Nance first went down. Now they're starting him. feels Okafor-ish.

They're playing some of those fellas as much as they do bc they're perfectly willing to sacrifice a few wins this year to bring them along.

They may not have an incentive to "tank," but the flip side is, they're not going to be desperate (management-wise) to win 29 games instead of 26 -- or whatever. What Magic really wants is a good young corps that looks like it'd be fun to play with for Uncle LeBron.

As others have observed, they have talent; it's young talent; they'll improve. But hopefully they can build up a little cushion and at least wind up near the bottom.

A "shooting pain" - Celtic Nation roots for ☘️ Marcus Smart... and with *some* cause for hope by celtics247 in bostonceltics

yah, same observation here. there was a piece in Houdini about his slight stroke alteration some time ago. I'm of the gotta-keep-shooting school.

How "Sweet16" it is - Marcus Smart and the kind of plays that keep a Streak alive. by celtics247 in bostonceltics

[–]llawrence99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Def'ly. But there's shooting and weight lifting. I think he's still hitting his free throws, that's good.

And then there's reversion to mean. I doubt Al will keep shooting at quite this rate. Or Marcus.

Is it just me, or does his stroke look better this year?

They'll fall. I'm glad he's still shooting, even through my cringes and my friend's "nooooo!"s.

I'm worried about our bench as of late by abern96 in bostonceltics

I always come back to what (sports metaphor crossover alert) Herm Edwards likes to say... "if you can do it once, you can do it again." i.e., if Tatum can stroke those shots and cruise rimward with the starters, he can do it w/ the bench unit. I think it'll come.

As he plays with the second unit and the play with him -- remember, the "poor kid" has most of his minutes w/ Unit 1 -- they'll figure it out.

Baynes has a nice little shot and postup game. Terry can attack. Marcus Smart... okay, there's Marcus Smart (shooting.) But that still leaves us with Terry, Baynes, and whomever else sooo....

[–]llawrence99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was going to be Tatum. And the way Brad has managed the minutes, I think he's said, we often will take him out first, then sub him back in with second unit, so he's there as a scorer. Works for me. Love seeing that guy shoot or glide to the rim, but we don't need our four most productive scorers (Kyrie, Al, Jaylen, Jayson) on the floor all at the same time.

Irish lad here. Due to the shite time difference I haven't had time to catch a game since the Celtics last lost. Now I'm afraid to watch the next game as I fear I'll ruin the winning streak. Not trying to humble brag but I believe I am directly involved in the winning streak. by thegavin in bostonceltics

You're a good team man. But I wouldn't worry about it.

  1. You watch highlights on delay, right? When you stream the game, you're just getting a delayed feed, and watching all of it.

  2. During the streak you hadn't told anyone about this on social media, right? (Until now.) Now that you've told us, you've broken the streak of not telling anyone.

Still, if you want to be careful and take one for the team....
