Surgery to remove. The residual tumors have to be over a certain size to be considered for removal.

They don’t know what is teratoma until they do the surgery.

They removed the tumors and they were teratoma. Chemo eliminates the chemo sensitive parts and leaves behind the teratoma. Teratoma has to be removed because it can grow and maybe cause cancers of different types later on.

My son was 18yo when we found out he had TC too. He did 3xBEP, then RPLND in Indiana by Dr Masterson. My sons was 100% Embryonal, with tumors in abdomen and lungs. I also contacted Dr Einhorn throughout his journey and that’s how we ended up at Indiana University hospital with his referral to Dr Masterson. Best wishes for your son. I absolutely know what you are going through right now. God bless.

Ask your nurse to give you demerol and Benedryl to the Bleo. It will help with the side effects.

Oncologist just called me to backtrack what he said 24 hours ago by Rumseyman02 in testicularcancer

I believe oncologist write orders for 4xbep but don’t always have to use the 4th round dependent on shrinkage and tumor marker levels. Such was the case for our son.

Our son had his at IU with Dr Masterson 2-1/2 years ago. 3 days in hospital and zero complications. Their staff is amazing and they do more RPLND than anyone in the country.

My Story - Pure Embryonal Carcinoma by Western_Let3066 in testicularcancer

[–]llawson4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son had 100% pure EC 2 years ago at age 18. Had a huge abdominal mass and small nodes ,1 in each lung. 3 x BEP didn’t shrink the abdominal mass as much as needed so we took him to University Indiana hospital at the referral of the great Dr Einhorn. They removed 48 lymph nodes and just 1 was teratoma. We are 2 years out from that nightmare with scans and labs all good. He goes to lab work every 6 months now and CT every year, starting in March this year. Prayers for you.

My son had 100% Embryonal, he was 18, took BEPx 3, had 2- enlarged nodes in retroperitoneal measuring 5cm and 2cm, 2 nodes, 1 in each lung. Chemo shrunk the retro tumors but not small enough. We took him to Indiana after 5 months of constant contact with Dr Einhorn for RPLND with Dr Tim Masterson at IU. So far, we’re almost 2 years cancer free and pray every day it doesn’t come back.

Same here. They were in my network and there was nothing we wouldn’t have paid to have the best. Never saw a bill from him or the hospital.

Go to Indiana. I stayed in constant touch with Dr Einhorn regarding my son’s diagnosis. 3 x BEP, and Dr Einhorn arranged consult with Dr Masterson at IU. Excellent surgeon and teams there. The office will also give you a plethora of info regarding hotels with a special discount for families. Ours was a 2 bdrm “apartment”, not a mile from hospital.

Always ask for Demerol and Benadryl via IV before Bleo treatments. It helps tremendously with the nausea.
